2 am here and we just had a scare.....

MommyToAshley wrote: There have been a lot of tornado warnings in our area lately. Well, at 2am, I wake up to what sounds like a freight train going through the house and our windows were rattling. SO, I wake up the DH, grab the baby and run to the basement thinking we are in a tornado!!

It turns out to be just rolling thunder. LOL rolling_smile.gif But, my heart is still pounding and Ashley isn't going back to sleep. sad.gif

CantWait replied: LOL glad everything is alright Dee Dee. wub.gif

I am scared to Death of tornados.....
I remember a time (before I bought my house with the basement) that we had a really bad thunderstorm and I think there may have been a tornado warning. DH wasn't home and my parents lived 2 blocks away.

(I wasn't thinking clearly obviously)
I can't remember where my car was but I didnt have it, I was so scared... I loaded all three of my children (ages 5, 3, 1 at the time) in the wagon and pulled them all the way to my mothers house in the storm.

I think back on that and wonder what I was thinking. Sometimes fear gets the best of you!

supermom replied: We had some tornados pass within 2 miles of our house yesterday. Got several smaller communities around us with several fatalities. It was really kind of strange. We have a police scanner, and all of the ham radio operators who chase storms were reporting where (exactly) it was and where they thought it was headed. I got ready to grab Anders and the rest of them and get into the bathroom (no basement!).......but just kept listening and didn't have to go after all. I am thankful that it missed us, but know that there is some major damage not too far from here...

maliksmommy replied: I'm here in Kansas City and also had tornados right down the road. It was a very scary afternoon. We were at my nephews birthday party when the sirens went off. On my way to work I saw a lot of the damage and was just so thankful nothing happened to us. I definately don't want to be that close again

MommyToAshley replied: Supermom and Maliksmommy.... how scarey! I am glad you guys are alright. <<HUGS>>

momofajcl replied: I'm glad you didn't have a tornado going thru your house! How scary! I'm glad everyone is ok! We don't get nearly the amount of tornados (and when we do they are normally F1's or F2's) here but I bought one of those weather radios anyway. It give me peace of mind when I wake up in the middle of the night to a windy electrical storm. As long as the thing does go off, I'm not panicking! LOL!

I've seen pictures on our news of the tornado damage that happened yesterday. Too scary unsure.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I was just coming to post the same thing... they are showing the damage done in Kansas on the news now. So glad you all are ok!

supermom replied: I have lived here for 20 years and this is the 4th tornado that has gotten this close - two were closer, and one about the same distance as this last one. I guess a lot of communities got it a LOT worse than Pittsburg. On the police scanner yesterday they were rating it an F3 so that's pretty bad. I am sure glad that no one I know was hurt or lost anything, but we know people who know people who lost everything but their lives. They are taking donations here locally, and I think of all of the people who were hurt or worse and just thank God everyone I know is safe. Makes you re-think your priorties, for sure!!

I used to live in CA where we got lovely earthquakes. In fact, my mom moved back here right before the really really bad on that happened in San Francisco/Santa Cruz in 1989. That one destroyed a lot of places I know and used to hang out when I was younger. I don't know which is worse, but I do think I like at least some warning, even if it means you have longer to worry!

Thanks you all for thinking of us - love ya!

momofajcl replied:
I was born/raised about 20/25 miles South of San Francisco and lived there until 1998. That one in '89 was the worst I'd been thru. I was at work (San Carlos) and under my desk! LOL! It felt like I was in a shoe box and a child was shaking the box back and forth w/me in it. Very scary. We went outside and our office building was just off highway 101 and a motorcycle cop had stopped a car before the quake hit. He was telling us how he had to hold his bike up or it would have toppled over. I can still remember getting home and turning the news on...amazingly, we had power! The pictures from the Cypress structure near Oakland and of the Bay Bridge were so overwhelming! OH...and the Marina district in San Francisco on fire too. I can't tell you how many times I had been in that area of the city in my lifetime!

I was nursing Kaitlin during that storm. I was glad it did not bother her at all. wub.gif It was nice listening to the rain, very soothing. Had some thunder but did not shake the houes at least not this time! I like a good thunderstorm.

MommyToAshley replied: Oh my!! I don't know which is worse...tornado or earthquake!! I lived in CA when I was about 7 years old, but I don't remember any earthquakes...thank goodness. I do remember that it would rain and sunshine at the same time and there were always rainbows. hehehe.. it's funny what we remember!

supermom replied: If anyone is interested, there are some pictures and articles of the storms that were here yesterday - you can read it online at The Pittsburg Morning Sun - if you read this after today, you'll probably have to look for May 5th Headlines. Apparently it's the worst ever tornado recorded for Crawford County - which is pretty bad

MommyToAshley replied: That's sad. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.
