1st Dr. Appt - totally pointless!
~Roo'sMama~ wrote: I went to my first Ob appt yesteray, and all they were going to do was a pg confirmation because it's too early for anything else.......... and they were out of pregnancy tests!!! Of course they didn't realize that until I'd already peed in the cup and sat it the exam room anxiously waiting for them to come tell me what I already know. Oh well they did take my blood (not my favorite part ) so I didn't really go for nothing!!
coasterqueen replied: Well that stinks...at least you know you are pg. Course the bloodtest will tell them that too. Get used to the blood tests though. At my first "official" appointment they made me have SEVERAL blood tests. I kept asking the guy how many viles he was going to fill before I passed out?
So when's your next appointment?
MommyToAshley replied: How does an OB office run out of PG tests??!! They might as well close the doors for the day, KWIM.
I am glad that you at least got the blood test out of the way, they'll be able to confirm your PG with that.
My first appt was just to confirm the PG and they gave me a bunch of info and a script for prenatals.
MomToMany replied: Yep, mine were the same way, too. Ugh, I hate the blood tests!
And really, how could they run out of tests?
mama3x replied: For some reason I always thought those tests were endless and came from some bottomless pit in the OB office! At least they did something though, huh!
kimberley replied: well hopefully your next appt will be more exciting. let us know your results
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Lol I was sort of surprised that they were out too.... oh well. They did give me a packet of coupons and info and stuff. My first *official* appt. is in 3 weeks - I am NOT looking forward to it!! I'm super shy about all the personal stuff... I almost died of embarrassment a couple of years ago when I went in about a yeast infection. And I'm sort of ashamed to admit, I'm 23 and I've never had a Pap smear. So I'm all kinds of nervous about that one. Oh well I'll live through it some how! Oh and I told her that I'm taking Target brand prenatals and she said that's good enough and didn't give me a prescription! Lol I was pretty bummed about that.
mummy2girls replied: The first appointment is always boring!!! My OB ordered tests for me, tried to figure my due date and scheduled me for my first u/s to see how many babies i was carrying and such....
A&A'smommy replied: oh well that sucks... the "first" time I went it was just for confirmation (mostly for my parents since I was 17 at the time) I TOLD them I didn't want to do a blood test luckily I didn't have the same problem as you.... I'm sorry that does suck BUT next time should be a little more "fun" I CRIED when they did my papsmear but I think that was the harmones and then I REALLY cried when i saw the u/s lol but that was because I was in awe of what was inside of me.... its really beautiful, and trust me the "personal" stuff isn't too bad just TRY not to be nervous that makes it worse on you. let us know how that one goes
Littlejojames replied: OMG thats worse than my 1st appointment. No pg test??????? what was the point in even opening?
My 1st appointment was a bit of a let down.
Went in told the doc i got a positive on a hpt and he went "oh right what do you want me to do?" that shocked me he just did my blood pressure and said he would write to the hospital. that was that.
Hope you dont have an experience like mine at the hospital with your bloods. One minute i was 5+ weeks pregnant then they said i was 14+ weeks, then they told me that my baby had died at 5+weeks then when i had an u/s they said that everything is healthy and fine and that i was 5+ weeks.
Hope that all your next appointments goe well.
Good luck Keep us up-dated
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Wow I think I would have cried my eyes out if my appt had gone like that! Thankfully it wasn't that bad. I'm supposed to hear the results of the blood tests today so I'm carrying the phone with me everywhere.
Littlejojames replied: Keep us updated hope that everything goes ok
x
raysnroof replied: Hopefully, you were able to ditch that doctor AND the hospital and go with people who won't make mistakes while you are in labor or still admitted with baby. Frankly, it was stupidity after stupidity like what you related that finally conviced my hubby to let me have my dream home birth. What a blessing!!!!!
Littlejojames replied:
God it was such a horrible experience but thankfully everything is great now.
Not decided on what type of birth i want yet.... more leaning towards a natural birth..........will see!!!!!
Is it your 1st????
