A thirteen year old has a child with a 22 year old Man and the govenor of their state want hims prosicuted. I think this is terribly sad and worries me. Partially because she is only 13 but I understand and sympathize with her. But the MAN who is 22 I find confusing. I know As a teen parent we somtimes get into situations but this one baffles me.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I read about this in Time mag a few weeks ago. Ewwwww. And her parents knew she was dating him, it wasn't like she was sneaking. Dating a 22 year old when you are 12. Woo. I was still playing dress-up. There is something wrong with this young guy's head. You just don't do that. Period.

mckayleesmom replied: This is how I see it.....Do I think he should be prosecuted now? NO...why?....because they went to a state where it was LEGAL for her mother to sign the papers for her to get married....THEY ARE LEGALLY MARRIED. LEGALLY a wife can't even testify against her husband...kwim? Do I think its sick....YES.....but, her parents should have called the police while this was happening, they knew it was going on. Isn't there a law...I forgot what its called, but if its after the fact they can't do anything??....SOmeone remember the name. I remember...something like EXPOS FACTOS....maybe Im wrong. Now these 2 people have a child....and that child deserves a mother and father regardless of how she was brought into this world. Personally I think this prosecuter is having himself a little publicity stunt. Back in the day.....13 was an average age to marry,,,are we going to go back and prosecute everyone? Let these 2 make the wrong that they did right....Its not like he got her pregnant and ran or she abandoned her baby like most do. I know most people will probably think Im crazy, but I just don't see a positive in this after a baby is already here.

Whitney&Candace'sMommy replied: That's weird...
when I was 12 I was still playing dress up's, holding a boys hand was like the big thing... tongue.gif
it's a crazy world...

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I also don't necessarily see a positive in prosecuting this guy. But it is legal to do so. The statute of limitations hasn't expired and I don't think Ipso Facto applies. I'd have to ask Aaron for sure, he's an attorney. I agree, the parents should have called someone beforehand. Now it is a bit late to punish a guy for trying to do the right thing. As an aside, in cases of statutory rape, once charges have been brought, the parents cannot dismiss them. So even if they wanted to, her folks' hands are tied.

msoulz replied: One positive is that it might deter some other adult male from taking advantage of a twelve year old. I just can't get past that. I am quite sure my dad would have gone to any length to deter any 22 year old who took interest in me as a twelve year old CHILD.

3xsthefun replied: I don't think it is right that a 22 year old is with a 14 year old. But.... at least he is trying do the right thing by staying with the mother & baby. They are legally married, which the parents DID allow. So I don't think that the prosecuter should punish the guy now.

The parents should had done something before the girl got pregnant. But now she has a baby and the father just wants to be his child. I think they should just leave them alone.

Mom2Boyz replied: I can't really say much because at 14 I was with my ex-husband who was 21 blush.gif
I think as long as he is standing up and being a man taking care of his wife and daughter, they should just leave them alone. At least he did the right thing, and stood by her. Most men would have ran as soon as they found out she was pg.

3_call_me_mama replied: What baffles me about all of it is that the law states that a person under 16 cannot have sex with an adult regardless if they are married or not?! HUH! UMMMM> If they are allowed to be married, then they should be entitled to the marital rights adn responsibilities.
I do not approve of the situation, but that is not for me to decide. God gave this baby to these two people. They are to raise it and love it adn care for it.

I think it shoudl have been up to the parents to enforce the original restraining order if they were that adamant about it, and I do nto feel that the state officials shoudl be stepping in for a situation that has already gotten past a point of turning back. As I am sure there are already SEVERAL single underage mothers in the state, why add to that when you have 2 paretns that have already been married adn want to raise the child together.

On a personal point, at 12, I didn't have a boyfriend, much less even think about sex. Differnt area, different times I guess.

Ya....my Ken doll wasn't even trying to get in Barbie's pants yet at that age... thumb.gif
