"Stand"...but how?
Danalana wrote: My pastor is always saying "stand to your feet".... it seems like everybody adds the "to your feet" part, and I don't know why. If he just said "stand", would we be looking around, bewildered and uncertain of what to do? Like, maybe thinking we should stand on our hands or head? I've wondered about this for years...I hear it everywhere. I swear, if I ever hold a conference or something, in which people need to stand at the end, I'm just going to say "stand"
CantWait replied: Oh gosh Dana, your mind is working in overdrive this week.
Danalana replied: It really is! My mind is flooded with things I want to talk about
Hillbilly Housewife replied: well by all means, talk away.
Cuz, i'm not bored or anything.
PrairieMom replied: I have never heard of "stand to your feet" My pastor says "please rise" maybe its a nutty southern thing?
luvmykids replied: Mine says "stand to your feet" too, and he's originally from TX, so you might be on to something there
Calimama replied: Nutty and Texas should NOT be in the same thought. Mine says, "Please Stand"... short, simple, and right to the point. Good ole' Californians.
MoonMama replied: Well good thing he makes it very clear what is to be done, because I would have stood on my head, or been extremely confused!
ZandersMama replied: If he ever forgets to add, to your feet, make sure to stand on your head lol
lisar replied: No the ones here in the south that I have been to all say "Please rise"
Danalana replied: If he ever says "please stand", I am going to raise my hand until he recognizes me. And then I will politely ask him what he means. Or maybe mass chaos will erupt, all on its own. That's my favorite kind of chaos...MASS chaos.
PrairieMom replied:
you must be catholic? we wouldn't have chaos in my church. We are methodist. We would all just look around like, "is that what works for you and your family? ok. this is what works for mine. "
Danalana replied: Nope, not catholic! but I can get how you might infer that from my using the word "mass" twice.
Anthony275 replied: im so confused
redchief replied: Mass chaos, huh?
I love it. Here it is simply, "Please stand," or "Please rise." The please stand to your feet must be very colloquial, because I've never heard it.
My3LilMonkeys replied: It's always please rise around here too.
Danalana replied: Yes! Colloquial! I'm going to look up the word "colloquial" and make sure I agree with you but, for now, I'm on board
A&A'smommy replied: your crazy!!!
MoonMama replied:
Danalana replied: I looked it up, and I'm happy to report that I STILL agree with you, Ed.
