? about Angel food cake w/pineapple cream filling - HELP PLEASE
MommyToAshley wrote: I am making a taco dip and this simple dessert recipe to take to my sisters for New Years:
ANGEL FOOD CAKE WITH PINEAPPLE CREAM FILLING
1 angel food cake 1 20-ounce can crushed pineapple, drained 1 8-ounce carton frozen whipped topping, thawed 1 3.4-ounce package French Vanilla instant pudding
Bake angel food cake or buy one. Cook vanilla pudding ahead and let it set. Mix together vanilla pudding, Cool Whip, pineapple. Slice cake in 3 layers put filling between and on top.
However, I have found another version of the same recipe that says to add the dry pudding mixture (not the prepared pudding). Has anyone made this and which way did you make it? When I had it, it was topped with strawberries so I will probably do that as well.
CantWait replied: I'm not quite sure I understand completely.
Edited to say I reread it....
I'm not quite sure. I'd say go with the prepared pudding. Sorry I'm no help.
Our Lil' Family replied: This is the only one I've made: http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/angel-lush-51103.aspx
It says not to prepare the pudding.
Kaitlin'smom replied: you can do it either way, I know not much help. It depends on how much filling you want by reading that it wants the cake cut in 3 layers, filled and then some on top so you would need to make the pudding in order to have enought filling. Now if you just wanted one layer of filling and some on top I would not make the pudding other waise you woudl have to much filling. Does that make sence?
stella6979 replied: I have no idea about the cake, but would you care to share your taco dip recipe?
MommyToAshley replied: 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened 1 (16 ounce) container of sour cream 1 pack of taco seasoning mix lettuce shredded cheese (recipe calls for a cup but I add more) 3 chopped tomatoes 1 green bell pepper, chopped (I don't use green pepper but I add a chopped green onion) black Olives (optional) I don't like them so I don't add them
Mix in a bowl the cream cheese, sour cream and taco seasoning. Spread mixture in a 9-inch serving dish. Top with lettuce, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, green bell pepper (or green onion), and olives.
Sometimes I will add a layer of refriend beans or a layer of salsa to mix it up a little. It's really yummy and is usually gone in seconds.
MommyToAshley replied: How did you like it? I think this is the same recipe I had at a friend's house and it was yummy.
mom21kid2dogs replied: I've used a similar recipie before. I prepare the pudding as directed on the box. It's very yummy (and fairly waistline friendly, too!)
stella6979 replied: Wow, simple and tastey!! Thanks so much Dee Dee!
Our Lil' Family replied: The filling was a little runny but if you make it then refrigerate it before serving it helps, or layer it in a triffle bowl would help too. Tasted great though!
MommyToAshley replied: Oh, forgot to update. I did make the cake, and the filling was a bit runny. I think next time I will drain the pineapples a little bit to keep it from being so runny. It was yummy though.
Here's a pic, it wasn't real pretty, but it sure was yummy! And, it was even more yummy knowing that it was low-fat, low-calorie. Ashley liked it, but she liked the strawberries better, as you can see she kept stealing them off the plate.
Our Lil' Family replied: Yep, that's what mine looked like too! Glad you enjoyed it!
