*NuVa Ring Question* - or general BC question

grapfruit wrote: Ok, I think I actually have more then one question.

1. Anyone else on the Nuva Ring? I've been on it for like 1-2 years (I can never remember). I'm on the the "bi-cycling" dose, meaning I put one in for 3 weeks, take it out and put another in for 3 weeks and then take it out for a week which is when AF comes. So I have AF every 7 weeks. (not too bad mind you). Before I went on the Ring I was on the patch for like 2-3 years. My question/problem/whatever you want to call it: Does anybody else on either of these forms of BC have problems "getting in the mood"? I seriously feel like I could DTD once a month and be good. What's my problem???

2. My insurance ends like July 1st. So I'll have to go to the clinic for BC, does the pill make you have the same side effects?? (I'm assuming I can't stay on the ring w/the clinic. For some reason I guess I assume the only will give you pills??)

Any help/advise etc will be appreciated.

hoosier momma replied: When I was on BC it had a horrible effect on my sex drive. I could have done it like once every six months and been fine. It is because of the amount of hormones in BC. Some of the low dose pills like Yasmin are better about it, but I just quit taking it completely. I had to have the Depo shot in December and I am still feeling the effects from it. I hate BC!!!

grapfruit replied: I took Depo like 7 years ago and had HORRIBLE side effects (bled for like 1 month straight, then not for 2 or 3 months and then do it again, massive depression). It was bad. I don't remember having "mood" problems though.

We really aren't in a place to have kids yet, so I really need to stay on it. But I agree, I hate it. sad.gif I'll ask them about the Yasmin. Maybe that'll be better. I don't know, Nuva Ring is suppose to be low dose too.

Is there a better chance of it failing if it's low dose?

hoosier momma replied:
I'm really not sure. I know I never got the benefits of shorter, lighter periods with the low dose ones.

lisar replied: I hated the nuva ring. I dont know but I didnt like it. I used it when it first came out though. So maybe it has changed.

As far as lower dose yea your chances of it failing are a little greater.

Brias3 replied: I don't know the answer to what the clinic offers BC wise, but I am currently on the ring and have had similar effects. Of course, the lack of "enthusiasm" so to speak might be due to one of a few issues so its hard to tell in my case if they are related.

I'm not sure what I think of the ring quite yet. I've been using it since December and am still not sure if I'm sold. I was previously on the pill and liked the not having to worry about remembering each day thing though.

grapfruit replied:
The having to remember every day is what I'm worried about. I've never been on anything that I've had to take everyday. Before the ring it was the patch (which I hated, gained lots of weight on) before that it was Lunelle (once a month shot, which I LOVED) and before that Depo.

Of all that I've taken Lunelle was my favorite, followed by the ring. Tim doesn't really like it though, he can feel it, well, you know. Sometimes I take it out to DTD and then rinse it off and put it back in. From what I read that's ok, just a PITA.

I guess I'm just nervous to have to remember to take a pill everyday at approx the same time each day.... wacko.gif I'm not good at that stuff...

Brias3 replied:
I feel the same way. I can't trust myself remembering the pill. I've been on it before and made a switch for that very reason.

In addition, I've pulled it out with a tampon (sorry if TMI) twice now and didn't notice until a few days later dry.gif I'm certainly not sold on it and would like to try something else but I like the lower dosage of hormones- less side effects for me.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Never tried the ring, but I had really good luck with the patch. I wouldn't recommend it if you or a close family member has a history with blood clots though. It's been linked to blood clotting problems. But, I will admit it worked well for me when I was on it.

grapfruit replied:
I had problems w/it not wanting to stick, or getting stuck to the inside of my pants and stuff like that. Also, I still have "hairless" patches (in the shape of a patch) on my butt from it. And depending on where the patch was sometimes I'd break out in a rash, in a nice square shape. dry.gif

Did you notice for the first 2 months you felt blah the entire time. I asked my doctor about it, and they said that a huge number of people that they had on it felt the same way.

I've not had problems w/the ring falling out or anything, I don't like "digging" for it to get it out though....

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I have heard others have problems with it sticking as well, but I never had that issue. Don't know why, but mine always stayed on pretty well. Interesting about the hairless patches, I'll have to look at my butt in the mirror. laugh.gif I did however, feel blah like you said, but any BC makes me feel that way which is why I went off of it and do not want to go back.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! I just had the worst mental image! laugh.gif rolling_smile.gif

grapfruit replied:
Maybe it's a body chemistry thing or something? (sticking) Or just batches of adhesive. Because sometimes they stuck TOO good! tongue.gif

emlaugh.gif This will sound stupid, but just feel where you stick em. My were really really smooth rolling_smile.gif But you could see it too!

grapfruit replied:
rolling_smile.gif I know I know, but what else can you do?

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I never had a problem getting in the mood, my main problem with the patch was it turned me into a horrendous witch (with a cool.gif. I was on the patch for about 4 months and the entire time, Aaron looked at me like he expected my head to spin around. It was bad, even I could see it. I never had that problem with the pill.

ZandersMama replied: I LOOOOVVVVE the ring, i've been using it about 4 months or so. And no troubles with mood, other then maybe too much mood lol considering i am seperated right now. blush.gif
