white noise machine

boyohboyohboy wrote: does anyone use a white noise machine and they like it?

luvmykids replied: I don't but my MIL has to have one to sleep. I think she just uses a little fan though instead of a true noise machine.

Boo&BugsMom replied: I liked the one we had for Aiden. I can not for the life of me remember who made it though. I got it at Babies R Us for about $15 I think. It played a lot of nature sounds, including a heartbeat.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I dont have white noise but my alarm clock has the ocean, thunder, rain, waterfall, summer nights and rainforest. I LOVE LOVE them when I can sleep I put one on and it relaxes me back to sleep. I love my new clock I got for christmas, Ocean is my favorite followed by thunder

Crystalina replied: DH has to have a fan. I have to have MSNBC. rolleyes.gif

I didn't know there was a white noise machine. Neat. thumb.gif

Bamamom replied: We have ine in each of the children's rooms. It's great to help mask the noise we make when they are napping or sleeping. We take them with us anything we are going to be away overnight - or even just at naptime.

5littleladies replied: I've always just used a fan if I need white noise. My mom is so used to her fan that she takes the darn thing camping with her! rolleyes.gif Who needs white noise when you are out in the wilderness?? tongue.gif

A&A'smommy replied: dh and I use a fan tongue.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Me too. blush.gif laugh.gif

I always have to have a fan on. Mostly because it drowns out Troy's snoring.

Our Lil' Family replied:
You sound like my neighbor! You should hear how loud she puts those machines...I don't know how her girls sleep to that.

Thomas has a fan to drown out my noise, although at naptime I'm usually on here and pretty quiet.

Jackie012007 replied: I use a fan year round - it drives Carl nuts but I can't sleep without it!

I have a The First Years light and sounds crib attachment for Carly, but the batteries died and we haven't replaced them in forever, heehee blush.gif

grapfruit replied: My SILs ped told her the reason my nephew's been having night terrors is because of his mobile. He said if they get used to something playing, being on, whatever when they go to sleep it can cause this. What happens is they drift off w/it playing (so a white noise machine would fall into this category) and then it turns off (don't know if they do that) when their body comes out of a deep cycle of sleep they don't hear it anymore and it scares them. But they don't wake up completely, thus a night terror. She said it's been awful because they can't get him to calm down, turning on the lights, talking to him, tickling his feet nothing. He's not even awake so he doesn't know they're there!!

Obviously though, some kids (and adults!) this works great, so I guess take it for what it's worth! happy.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: my little terrors couldnt be trusted with a fan in their room, they would find some way to cut their fingers off!
i use a fan in our room.
we were using humidifiers on high but now that winter is over we cant do that or we will have mold..so we just bought two white noise machines...
we will see if they work as well.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
We have one of those, too. We always sleep to either waterfall or rain. happy.gif I can fall asleep without noise, but it's so much easier with it. For awhile we didn't have anything but there was a fan in Allie's room and I'd just crank up the baby monitor so I could hear it. tongue.gif

Both my kids sleep with fans too. I'd like to get a noise machine for each of them though so we don't have to blow the fan in the winter.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
That's interesting - it makes sense. White noise machines don't turn off after awhile like the mobiles do though. Or if you use a fan it's fine too.

I forgot to say when we stay in a hotel I just use the clock radio and put it on static for me and the kids. tongue.gif blush.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Tanner had night terrors, but it was never caused by this. But just to note, kids aren't actually in a deep sleep cycle (REM) when they have night terrors they are between a light and deep sleep cycle...the stage 4 cycle, pre-REM. I'm not arguing it could happen though, but I've never heard this before. Night Terrors happen when there is an increase in brain activity...so perhaps they don't hear the machine anymore, it triggers the brain, and they "sort of wake up"? I suppose that would make sense. Interesting, thanks for the info! smile.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
OMG, that would make me think of the horror movie "White Noise"! laugh.gif blink.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
I've never heard of it. blush.gif I'm not much of a horror movie person. tongue.gif Does it have something to do with static on the radio?? I'm curious now! tongue.gif

moped replied: My kids never have used one, but I have to watch tv for noise to sleep.....
