vinegar in the laundry
PrairieMom wrote: I bought some white vinegar to clean with, anyone have some advice? like how much do i use, and what is it good for? I also heard it is good in the laundry.
kimberley replied: i think ur supposed to use it instead of bleach in the wash.
Insanemomof3 replied: I have no idea...I can't STAND the smell of vinegar lol so I don't use it.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Cleaning hard water stains, cleaning coffee pots, windows. Anything glass. I use it diluted to wash veggies.
Jamison'smama replied: See, I thought it was in place of softener. I've never used it though so I could be completely wrong. I use it clean my coffee pot though.
PrairieMom replied: your supposed to clean your coffee pot? how often?
PrairieMom replied: I read in my Good house keeping that you can mop the floor with it, but doesn't it make the house smell all vinegar-y?
Jamison'smama replied: I don't clean it all that often---once every 3 or 4 months. I run a pot of vinegar through the brew cycle then two pots of water.
luvmykids replied: For laundry, it's in place of the softener. Use the same amount as you would use of softener. On the floor, yes it stinks for a minute, but when it dries the smell goes away. Same for cleaning countertops. It's acidic and kills many of the same things bleach does. It's also a good odor remover, if you have a stinky area put a small dish of vinegar in the room. It will smell like vinegar but again, once you remove the vinegar, that odor goes away.
There is a site with a ton of uses, I think it's frugalliving.com
Calimama replied: Wow I never knew vinegar was good for laundry or the coffee pot!
PrairieMom replied: thanks! Can I use it in the wash with bleach? and what about the dish washer? Does it do anything good in there?
luvmykids replied: I don't know about using it in the wash, but in the dishwasher it's said you can use it in place of the Jet-Dry as a rinse agent.
Here is one link and here is another one I like.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I've used it in the wash when I run out of softener. My clothes DO smell like vinegar after using it. DH hates it. It really doesn't bother me that much. It works really well and makes the clothes so soft!!
jem0622 replied: It kills a lot of germs, and especially yeast.
PrairieMom replied: yeast huh? maybe I should be drinking the stuff.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I do that too Also we have hard water and using bleach like in the toilet or the laundry it turns brown..so I use white vinager instead
Boo&BugsMom replied: I remember growing up how my mom would use it to clean the coffee pot. She would run it through the pot and it stunk up the whole house. Bleck. If you do that, make sure the windows are open.
coasterqueen replied: My sitter uses vinegar to do everything cleaning wise. YUCK! Every morning I go over there I smell it. BLAH!!! I don't think the smell goes away quickly, personally. She'll comment on how she had cleaned something hours ago and I still smell it.
It is in place of softner for sure.
gr33n3y3z replied: its great for killing mold
MommyToAshley replied: I am going to try vinegar in the bathrooms. I usually use a bleach solution but DH hates it ... he hates any kind of chemicals really.
How long do you leave the vinegar on?
gr33n3y3z replied: it stays on Dee Dee You wash or scrub the mold away then rinse with the vinegar it will smell like a salad for awhile but its better then the bleach smell If your talking about the caulking around the tub Just have Rod remove it and recaulk it bc sometimes nothing gets that
BabyOwen427 replied: I like to funnel some baking soda down my drains then pour a cup of vinegar in. After it stops fizzing I follow with hot water for a minute or two. That clears any drain obstruction great. Just don't do it often because it wears at the pipes over time, so I've heard.
I'm going to have to try mopping with it. Wonder if it get's out cat urine smell? I'm gonna find out.
luvmykids replied: I've heard of using it for dog urine, I think it said to saturate the spot with the vinegar, wait a few hours, then blot up whatever is left.
