update on my father, again - his cancer

C&K*s Mommie wrote: He called a short while ago, to give Chris and I the update. It is prostate cancer, which we knew already without him telling us, since it is so prevalent in older men. After speaking to two specialists, and his PCP, they have decided to go forth with a shot which will reduce the size of the prostate by 75%, and in 3mos he will go for some radiologic 'seeds' dunno.gif . I am clueless on that, but anyhow.
I know it will all work out well for him, I am confident of that even if prostate cancer did not have a low risk anyways, I am confident he is being taken care of regardless by the Great Physician. wink.gif

Thanks to all for the prayers & postive thoughts. hug.gif hug.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Radio seeds are tiny pieces of radioactive material that are placed surgically right at the tumor site. It is a much more concentrated way of delivering radiation therapy than the huge machines and much less likely to cause skin burns and other such side effects. Glad he's got a great doc. Cancer is never fun, but prostate does have an excellent survival rate. I'll keep him and you in my prayers.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Thanks for that information, Kelly. You are so intelligent! smile.gif

For having cancer, I am happy that it was prostate which as you said has a high survival rate. smile.gif

I am glad your Dad decided to share more information with you... somehow I would find that reassuring. Sounds like he has done his homework and has decided on the best plan for treatment with his doc.

And, they really can and do catch prostate cancer early now. Prostate cancer is the slowest growing cancer and has the highest survival rate. As you know, I went through the same thing with my Dad, and even knowing all this, it can still be scary. I'm always available if you want to talk. hug.gif

I'll keep your Dad in my prayers for a quick and full recovery. hug.gif

A&A'smommy replied: hug.gif hug.gif My FIL has prostate cancer so we have been through all that.. if he gets the seeds he will not be alloud to hold your children for 6months I think (maybe its not that long) I can't remember for sure.. but its way WORTH having him around longer and having him healthy. It wont make him NEARLY as weak as cemo or anything else would. but it will be tough at first but again worth it hug.gif hug.gif I'm sorry he has to go through this and I hope he heals quickly!!!

TheOaf66 replied: well it is good that they caught it in time thumb.gif

JP&KJMOM replied: hug.gif and prayers to all of you Nicole. Glad you know a little more about it. hug.gif
