lisar replied: I cant say that I blame the hospital. However if the baby did have hepitits B then why not give the baby the shot? Would you rather give them the shot or let them have hepitits B??? Seems like a no brainer to me. But I also dont know alot about hepititis B so my thoughts might not be right on it.

And just out of curiosity cause I always want to learn more. The follwing to me doesnt make alot of sense. (everyone knows I am not a god person so someone please clarify this for me)

"We believe in God, and that God has created us in his image. In being created in God's image, we are given his perfect immune system. We are bestowed with His gift, the immune system. We believe it is sacrilegious and a violation of our sacred religious beliefs to violate what God has given us by showing a lack of faith in God. Immunizations are a lack of faith in God and His protection, the immune system," the father maintains."

Does this mean that when a child gets sick or an ear infection and they need antibiotics that technically it would be against god to give them to them?? Because its against the immune system. Am I reading this right or wrong???? I am just curious. And its not a debate thing I just wanna make sure I am understanding this. Thats all.

grapfruit replied: Oh goodness. I don't even know if I have a comment on that....I smell a lawsuit in the air though.

OH! And I noticed in the article it was linking SIDS to vaccinations. I think that's what I heard, not gentic...(another post)

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Some people do believe that yes. Some people don't. Some people believe in only prayer and that whatever the outcome it is what God has planned. Ultimately I do believe that. We are created how he sees fit, whether that's perfectly healthy or not. God wants us to rely on Him to heal us, and some believe soley Him through prayer and whatever happens it's what God wants. I do understand that line of thinking, being religious myself, but I also think that medical technology is a gift from God for us to use and we see God's healing through them. Everyone has different convictions. It's no different than some Christians not celebrating Halloween and going TOTing, and yet some do. Does that make sense? Scientoligists could be grouped in this category, unless my info, I have is wrong. They do not believe in medical treatment, from what I understand, but they are also not linked to "Christianity" (don't get me started on that one), so I think that may be a whole other thread. LOL!!!

lisar replied:
Thank you for clairifying that for me. Now I understand that point. I was just curious. And I see what it means now.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
No prob! happy.gif

grapfruit replied: That's a good explanation Jennie. I btw, agree w/you. I believe that medicine is a gift from God.

That being said, I don't agree w/the hospital forcing them to have a vaccination, especially when they were so against it. If that truly is their believe (no drugs of any kind) then the Gov't was wrong to force it. Especially in hindsight seeing she didn't have Hep B.

jcc64 replied: Wow, that sounds crazy to me! I'm sure there's alot we're not privy to. I, for one, don't know much about Hep B- I didn't think it was that lethal. It sounds like the statistics for a false positive- 40-60%, warranted that the hospital allow the family to wait until the third test was done, which did, in the end, bear out the family's assertion that she was not infected after all.
I hope the hospital gets sued. Whose kid is it, anyway?

punkeemunkee'smom replied:

Not for long honey! laugh.gif

I hope they sue everyone who had a hand in this! What a crock of crap! ohmy.gif

PrairieMom replied: This one is hard for me, I totally see where the parents are coming from, and actually I am surprised that the hospital took it that far. I don't think that something like that could happen in my hospital.

boyohboyohboy replied: i have to read it again, i thought that my dh told me that the child didnt have the hep. b they just wanted to do the normal vax that they give all newborns and the parents refused..

jcc64 replied: In the interest of clarity, I looked googled Hep B, and it is pretty dangerous to newborns who've been infected by the mother. It's a sexually transmitted disease (and iv drug users), and I never really understood why they do this particular vax so early, but now I guess I found out why.
I thought I read that the mother, not the baby, tested positive, but that there is a high false positive rate with that blood test. I really don't know why the hospital couldn't have waited the 16 hrs until the 3rd blood test came back (negative).

DVFlyer replied: ^ correct- at least as far as I understood it. The mom supposedly had the virus so they wanted to vaccinate the baby.

Something doesn't add up to me. Seems like an awful lot happened in a short amount of time.

Funny to me that they had a problem with a Hep B vaccination- leaving the immune system up to God, but when their baby wasn't being born naturally, the rushed right over to the hospital...... without insurance.... I just hope they had $$ to pay.

DVFlyer replied: The article said they couldn't wait the 16 hours because there was a 12 hour window to vaccinate the baby.
