clothes lines

boyohboyohboy wrote: My husband and i had this debate the other day, he said most people do not use clothes lines anymore..
he hates the idea because then he said the neighbors will see his underware, and then he said they will know his waist size!!! rolling_smile.gif
ok his underware are not all that interesting so i am pretty sure no one is going to want to come look closer!
i said i would like it for blankets and stuff to air out..
he says no..
do you have a clothes line?

mommy~to~a~bunch replied: We do, and I love it! We're rural, so no one ever sees what's hung out. It is such an energy saver compared to using the dryer, I try to use mine as much as I can, which is mainly only during the spring/summer/fall times.

lovemy2 replied: I do but not because its a big energy saver but because I LOVE the way my clothes smell blush.gif I don't put undies out there though - mostly sheets, towels, etc.

boyohboyohboy replied: you just cant imagine how defensive he got over his skivies!

coasterqueen replied: Dh and I have had this talk for years and last summer I won. happy.gif We live in rural area, but he still thinks it's trashy to have one. So we compromised. I have the kind that you can put back, not sure how to explain it, but it's hidden except for when it's in use. He caved to the idea, not only because I nagged and nagged over the years happy.gif but because of electricity prices.

boyohboyohboy replied:
that wouldnt be a bad idea at all.
but we live in suburbia!
dh says we live like in the movie edward scissor hands! all the bushs are well groomed and alike!

AlexsPajamaMama replied: I have a wooden clothes rack that I have set up in the kitchen and hang clothes on that to dry, in the spring and summer I can put it outside. I use my dryer for somethings. Our dryer has an energy saver setting, but still it saves alot of money to hang dry.

PrairieMom replied: I do, and I use it all the time in the summer. I love it. And news flash for your DH, your neighbors can see his waist line every single time they look at him. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

TeesaŽŠ replied: I would absolutely DIE for a clothesline!!! But we can't have one here bawling.gif

When we did have one, I threw all underthings, sox and wash cloths in the dryer. Only took about 10 minutes, so that wasn't bad.

I really miss having one bawling.gif bawling.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: I had one, loved it for most things, sheets towels ect. Hummmm maybe I shoudl get one again to help energy cost I hate my electric bill. We have a privacy fence so you would not see most of it anyway.

boyohboyohboy replied:
tara, he is rolling his eyes at that one!!!!!
I however find it halarious!

msoulz replied:
LOL - do they have flowers on them or something?? Never mind, don't answer that . . . blink.gif

We don't use one because of allergies. I know the drying clothes can catch the allergens in the air and no one wants mom to sneeze all of the time and be miserable becuase if mama isn't happy . . . well, you know the rest. wink.gif

mommy~to~a~bunch replied: rolling_smile.gif OMG, you guys are hilarious!! I wish I had room for an indoor one during the winter.

boyohboyohboy replied:
you know, how come, me with the allergy kid didnt think of that!!!!

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Stacy, if his seasonal allergies are not that bad then he may be ok. It may be worth a shot.

We don't have one. We live in the city, close to a factory. Even though the factory doesn't smell all the time, I'd be my luck that the day I air out my laundry that it starts to smell and make my clothes stink. About once a week I can smell something coming from it, so I don't want my clothes smelling like it. If we lived in the country though, I'd love to have a clothesline. My MIL hangs her stuff out all the time, and I love the freshness of them after she brings them inside.

Crystalina replied: We had one but if you leave the clothes on the line and let the goats out in the evening they eat the laundry. I learned the hard way. dry.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: Too much bird poop on the laundry for me. I hate rewashing clothes (heck, I'm not a big fan of laundry in the first place) so it awlways honked me off when I brought it in and it was "bombed" tongue.gif UGH!!!

Anthony275 replied: no but i have a clothes rack that goes on my deck sometimes if its nice out

HuskerMom replied: We got rid of our line when we moved into this house. It was falling down practically. Besides I'm lazy and hate doing laundry anyways, I'd rather just throw everything in the dryer rather than take everything outside and have to bring it all back in again, but that's just me. tongue.gif

kimberley replied: i don't have one anymore but hubby hated the one i had. he thinks it's ghetto. well it's not so ghetto when the money i save on hydro buys him his new toys! dry.gif

i love the fresh smell from clothes on the line. they dry faster than a dryer. the sun is the best natural bleach. it's a win win!

sparkys2boys replied: I normally do but it broke the end of last summer and I ws lost without it to be honest. I am soooo getting one put up as soon as the snow is gone!! I love the smell of fresh off the line clothes also!
