alright ladies did you give birth.... - Natural or with drugs?

luvbug00 wrote: I was going for the all natural thing but by 7 cm. I begged to be pumped full of drugs emlaugh.gif . So I Got my epi. & I was happy cool.gif

* Major props to those of you who went all natural. elephant.gif

Jenny_B replied: Natural, until around 8cm...then got IV meds and an epidural. I would have gone totally natural, but they kept pushing me to get back in bed. As long as I could be moving around, swaying, moaning, etc I could handle things. But once in the bed I felt very panicky.

boobies4virtue replied: I did good until 8 cm. then i wanted a shower to help relax me. The damn Hospital had NO HOT WATER!!!! After that, I had them give me a nerve pill.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I was going to try to make it without an epidural - the nubain helped a little until my dr. broke my water and then I couldn't get that epi fast enough. wacko.gif

NummyMommy replied: I did it different with each one....each had different issues....the closet I came to all natural was my third....I had a doula who was a close friend and a massuesse!!(sp?) ...but she had to leave to get dinner and as soon as she did my midwife started a pit drip and I couldn't handle it sad.gif They did an epi but it never really worked so I felt the whole thing...she walked in just as my midwife put my DD on my belly biggrin.gif

5littleladies replied: So far I've had nubain with each girl and a spinal something or other (not epi) with my first. I'm really thinking that an epidural is the way to go this time though. tongue.gif

b&bsmom replied: I was scared to get an epi with my first. I had back labor and was in labor for 34hrs. I got some demoral(sp) and then in about my 28th hour, and breaking my water,I decided for the epi. It was very painful, took forever and left a huge bruise. With my second things were going ok and at about my 13th out of 15hrs with my son I got an epi although that epi went much better and didn't hurt nearly as much. biggrin.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: My intention was to go totally natural. But I did end up with a shot. It was some antihistamine to help me relax and rest, not to kill pain. But my midwife was there the whole time and had me change positions, shower, she rubbed my feet and back. She was great. Even with pitocin, she was fantastic!!

amymom replied: Natural totally, with both kids. Although with my daughter I did say that I would want meds if the contractions continued as fierce as they were coming and ... then she was born 15 minutes later thank God!!!

huggybugboy replied: Lots and lots of drugs...I'm such a wuss blush.gif
But I deserved them after my huge ordeal...

mammag replied: I got an epidural with all of them but with Cade it wore off and they wouldn't add more so I had to feel the worst of it. With the next two I told them I didn't want it wearing off and they did great with Conner but with Keegan something was amiss and only my right leg was numb for the last few hours.

mckayleesmom replied: I had 2 c-sections...but with both...the epideral failed....Mckaylee they knocked me out.......With Russell....the epideral jerk kept trying to convince me that even though I could feel my legs and move them...that the cutting wouldn't hurt....I started begging for him to knock me out. I started hyperventalating and the nurse put a mask over my face and was rubbing my hair (I didn't know it,,,but she slipped me some kind of drug that temp knocks you out and helps the epi kick in)....I remember waking up and I couldn't see,,,I asked what I had and they said they weren't there yet...lol....Then they pulled him out and I started to feel them stitching and they gave me more drugs. That was a NICE drug....I love that nurse....as for the epi guy...He can go to HEdoublehocketsticks. Later dh told me that when I started to hypervenalate...my heart rate and blood pressure skyrocketed. They also had the nurse clean Russell off and give him to another nurse to show me....the doctor was afraid that I might see the blood and panic...and she had blood on her mask. The last thing I remember before being knocked out was the doctor telling the epi guy to shut up and that wasn't normal like he was telling me......Then the nurse came with happy drugs.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Epidural!! smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied: I got an epi but ended up with a c-section and I got knocked out sad.gif

zdk753 replied: My first one was natural only b/c I was scared to death to have a needle in my back. With my second one I was going to do it again, but after they broke my water my contractions were all in my southern region if you know what I mean. I couldn't handle that so I had the epidural. My third they wanted to induce & everyone told me that w/ an induction my labor would last longer so I decided to go ahead & get the epidural so I could get some rest. An hour later I had her. I have regretted that decision ever since.

mom21kid2dogs replied: On my first prenatal appointment I asked how soon I could get an epidural. My OB/Gyn said I had to be in labor first . . . darn details!! tongue.gif

NummyMommy replied:
LOL what a good OBGYN!! elephant.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
That happened to me too when I first got the epi - I almost totally freaked out. The anesthesiologist told me I could either keep it that way and be half pain free or he could try it again and it might or might not work. I decided to take my chances. tongue.gif Luckily it worked - I wasn't handling the pain very well. unsure.gif

MM'sMama replied: Natural wacko.gif

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
This happened to someone else I know. She had to have C-sections and she kept saying that she could feel it and everyone was telling her that she couldn't. My thought is how in the heck do they know what you can and cannot feel. Um they're not the ones getting the c-section.

Anyway I was going to go natural as long as I could. I did have a 14 hour labor with Jade and had to be on pitocin so I did wind up getting the epi. I didn't even feel that thing going in. I think I was concentrating on breathing through the contractions. I was given staydol before I dilated enough to get the epi.

Boys r us replied: I had an epi with both of them! I wanted to be able to enjoy my birth experience and it's not like I'd get an award or anything for doing it natural and being in horrible pain! I was all about the EPI, I don't really understand not getting one to be honest! blush.gif

mom2tripp replied: Tripp was breeched from 20 weeks so I had a C-section biggrin.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Maddie and Ethan were both induced and I had an epidural, too.

Kaitlin'smom replied: had the epi since I had back labor sad.gif ended up with c-section so I am glad I got one I was able to be awake.

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I got an epi and it was great. I barley felt them put it in and I felt nothing, not even pressure when Mackenzie was born.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: With my first I had a shot of Demerol (Nubain) but he was born before the shot took effect... I had 3 stitches. I felt the first one, sorta felt the second one...didn`t feel the 3rd one. So I guess you could say it was a natural birth.

With EMilie, because my water broke in the morning and by 3pm hadn`t gotten anywhere.... so after the pit drip, I got some gas (laughing gas? dunno.gif) but it felt niiiiiice.... emlaugh.gif ) about 10 minutes before I started puching.... that`s it!

With this one, I plan to go natural as far as I can... but if it`s like the other too, probably just near the end...

Jamielou replied: Well i had an epi with carley and then ended up having a c-section and like brianne my epi wore off during the procedure and i got to see carley but i started to feel them cutting on my placenta to get it out (i didnt have enough hard labor to make it detach) and they tried putting more medicine in my i.v. three more times and they said that i was too scared and my body rejected the medicine so they had to knock me out to finish.... with delaney i had a c-section but they did a spinal and had no problems at all...except the shakes real bad and the more i would try to stop them the worse they got.

TANNER'S MOM replied: Brittany..au natural..but was very scared. Her heart rate dropped and they had to give us oxgen..but all was well..

Justin..au natural b/c he was born FAST

Tanner...ummmm very exciting. They induced me and nothing happened. They mentioned more than once Csection..more b/c I was a high rish preg. They induced me 4-6 weeks early. They wanted to get him OUT.... But the PIT and the cervix stuff wasn't working..NO LABOR..nothing showing up on the monitor thing.. I said I AM IN ACTIVE LABOR..they said no u NOT...

They said lets do the epi..b/c we feel like we are gonna do the Csection.. SO they started the EPI.... and they had 5 count em 5 messed up needles...they tried 5 times to get a needle in my back..AND after the 5th time MY DH PASSED OUT.. he said the blood squirted outa of my back... 6 needles later I have an epi that DOESNT WORK..DH broke his glasses had a SKULL FRACTURE and has no memory of DS2's BIRTH...

They ups the PIT..and 2hrs later he was born..and DH doesnt' remember IT

Sunflower04 replied: I got an epidural and it was great! biggrin.gif

MissyKay2005 replied: Had demeral and nothing eles with my first child, was in labor 18 and half hours and pushed for 2 and half of that. They then said he was not moving at all so i had to have a c-section sad.gif And let me tell you when that went to put the epaderal in my back for the c-section i was so relived I was a hurting puuppy up to that point I couldn't take it anymore.

jacobsmama replied:
OMG..... ohmy.gif I waited until about 5cm and then I Got epi I was also scared to get it but once I did things moved along so much faster and I had labored for 22 hours!! So I got the epi but no other drugs b/c they made me feel goofy. wacko.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: Lets see

With Rick I had a shot of something in the hip
and hated it

John,Erin and Katie it was Natural

No Epi for me I have a very bad back

~KARA~ replied: With both dd's I had something just to take the edge off and with Ds I had NOTHING!

3xsthefun replied: Kaitlynn- I had Nubain.

Maegan- I had a epidural she was born by c-section because she was breech.

moped replied: Drugs all the way!!!

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I tried labor with no pain drugs(I was on Magnesium Sulfate for high blood pressure) for around 14 hours but they were inducing and couldn't get the contractions to stop(they were like 5 minutes long) So after all that time the doctor came in-of course NOT my dr.-and because of some other stuff(I was bleeding and they couldn't find her heart rate) They did an emergency C and with that I had 2 spinals-I could feel after the first one-but they didn't want to wait for the epidural to work-I'd been telling the nurse something was wrong for 3 hours She told me I was a new mother and she was the nurse! They told DH that if they said out he better not ask any questions and the anatesioligist told me she might knock me out(My dr. addmittd later that they were scared because of how much blood I lost and no heart rate on baby) When they were pulling Tay out she let out this huge scream and both doctors said Thank GOD!!! She wailed like a banchey and there has NEVER been a sweeter sound! Everyone in the room was sooooo happy! I filed MANY complaints against that nurse-the hospital was sued about a year later because she pulled on a baby while it was being born and broke his shoulder blade. Any way the next time I will just have a scheduled Csection~ I really wanted a natural birth BUT I am all for just having the baby nice and safe! wub.gif

msoulz replied: My water broke at 8 p.m., so be 3 a.m. I was pooped! Don't know how many cm's I was, got a shot of Nubain, did nothing so I went for the epi. It was nice, but then I could not feel to push so they needed foreceps to get the boy out. He was born at 6:55 a.m. I was then glad to have no feeling as it took some time to repair the damage. However, had I been able to feel something, I could have helped a lot more. So this time I'll likely do the same thing, hold off as long as I can then go for the drugs.

mckayleesmom replied:
not only could I feel it...I could move my feet....and he was still trying to convince me not to be knocked out and that I wouldn't feel them cut.....I don't think so.

kimberley replied: Jacob: epi at 4cm... loooooonnng labor and birth
James: epi at 10cm... i refused to push without it blush.gif
Jade: epi at 5cm... really didn't need it as i was coping fine without it but was scared of what was to come blush.gif

hoping to go natural with this one thumb.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
I got the shakes really really bad after I had Russell...and the chills....One of the orderlys literally stacked 5 or 6 blankets from the warmer on me and I was still cold.

KingMom replied: With Colin, I thought I'd brave it out as long as I could. Made it to about 5cm and was begging for my EPI! I was screaming into my pillow when the doc arrived to put it in, I never saw him enter or exit. He came back later to see if it was working and I then introduced myself and thanked him so much smile.gif

I then ended up with a C-Section becuase I spiked a fever which caused Colin's heartrate to get above 200, they gave me one chance to push and then it was off to the operating room.

They ended up knocking me out just as they said "It's a boy" because I was getting very nauseous and trying to throw up.

Oh well, atleast I got to see him for one second!

kayla's mama replied: I was induced at 40 weeks with no sign of contractions!!!!! Dr. came in at 6 pm to do the cervadil thingy. At 5:30 am no progress. Started the potocin. I had the epi before I was 1 cm I could not handle the pain of the exam. They had to go up behind Kayla's head to see where I was. PAINFULL bawling.gif bawling.gif I had the epi from 11:30 am to 10 something. No body told me that afterwards you are going to have ankles and calfs as big as a house ohmy.gif from all the drugs that I got and for how long I got them.
