You guys won't believe this

jacobsmama wrote: So this person called me at work today wanting to be a new patient with the doctor that I work for. I was looking her up in the system to see if she had ever been seen at our office before and there was a match but this person would be like 78 years old so I verified this with her and sure enough it was her...OK

So I said ok mam what do you need to be seen for and she said,

TO HAVE AN IUD TAKEN OUT.... blink.gif

What?? Those only stay in for 5-7 years at the most so did she get this put in when she was 70??? that would not be right so I said, How long ago did you have the IUD put in?? She told me about

30 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif

Can you believe that? She has had her IUD in for 30 years and recently developed pelvic pain, had an u/s and that is how they found it! She even had a tubal done since then and no one ever picked it up!!!

Isn't that scarey? blush.gif Wow...what a day. blush.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Wow...Im suprised she is just now getting pains....Don't you usually have to have them taken out, or do they usually fall out? I always thought that they had to be taken out. Maybe she thought hers fell out.....isn't there a string attached...Maybe it broke off and she thought the whole thing fell out. Or maybe she got alzhimers early... unsure.gif

Buckles&Chains replied: OMG!! The poor woman!
Would that have caused any damadge, leaving it in for so long?

jacobsmama replied: Well, it is suppose to come out after 5-7 years but I guess she didn't really know how it worked 30 years ago and she forgot to tell anyone she had it in and she has been seeing drs since then so the string must have broke off. sleep.gif And no it won't come out or fall out infact it does the opposite the cervix will grow around it and she may have to have it surgically removed blush.gif

luvmykids replied: Well geez, I guess someone that age wouldn't stay up to date on the news/updates/research. So she didn't ask about what kind of b/c to use now, did she? emlaugh.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
My friend just had her surgery yesterday (if you read my IUD post)....The IUD had tore through her uterus and through the back...when they took it out, it had started to imbed itself in her bowl.... wacko.gif

jacobsmama replied:
that is terrible I missed that post Brianne. wub.gif

Monica...NO she didn't emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

1lilpeanut2love replied: OMG!! That is so darn crazy. That poor lady!!!! Glad she finally remembered- better late than never!

C&K*s Mommie replied: WOW!! ohmy.gif

kayla's mama replied: OMG, poor woman ohmy.gif

MamaJAM replied: Holy cow! ohmy.gif Hopefully once it's out she'll be ok.

jacobsmama replied: I think she will be fine I just think that is terrible that it has been left in there so long and no one noticed, dry.gif
