Would you buy something that is refurbished?
TeagansMom609 wrote: Im just wondering because im looking at laptops and I read that refurbished laptops are actually more dependable then a new one because they go through more testing before they are shipped out to make sure everything works properly then a new one does. Anyone ever buy anything refurbished??
coasterqueen replied: In all the laptops we've bought, I don't think I'd buy refurbished. I know Dh is plain against them. Do they come with a warranty? I'd definitely say no if they don't come w/a warranty. It would also depend on who's refurbished it. If it was one of my local computer guys I'd do it, if it's someone online, probably not.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I do. when you buy refurbished by the manufacturer it is one of the ones that was pulled from the assembly line for testing or if there is a scratch on the case or something that is caught before it leaves the factory it gets a new case and then is sold as refurbished.
ammommy replied: I bought a refurbished stereo once and it worked just fine. With a computer, though, I'd make sure that there was a warranty.
Boys r us replied: You're absolutely correct about the refurbished ones!
My dh is a computer guru for a living. He builds pretty much all of our computers, however, he recently bought a refurb from Dell and loves it! He is a believer in refurbs and this one was cheaper than he could build one for. I say go for it!
~KARA~ replied: I have had 3 refurbished printers in the last 6mo. they are all good its teh ink that keeps messing up but you get a waranty evertime you get a new one.
My mom has 2 refurbed laptops and they work wonderfully!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: If it comes with a warranty I say sure. If no warranty then I would not risk it-but that goes for 'brand new' or refurb. on something so expensive IMO!
A&A'smommy replied: my dh is a computer guru too (he does the same thing as nicholes hubby) and he says no he is all about building a computer and he likes hp.. hates dell (has WAY too many problems with them and same for gateway) but he says if it has a warranty on it that is fine but he really doesn't reccamend them becaues of the prices on computers now
Hillbilly Housewife replied: We bougt a used one from Ebay last year. There was a small crack in the frame, but it worked just fine. After about 6 months, the battery charger thing crapped out, so we had to buy a new battery charger thing...it was about 60$, but considering we pnly paid 400$ for this 1000$ laptop, Ièd say it was fine.
PrairieMom replied: I bought a refurbished Kitchenaid mixer. I saved a couple hundred dollars on it, and have never once had a problem. I say go for it.
3_call_me_mama replied: My DH is also a computer guru and builds our own computers, and for laptops he buys refurbished cause they are cheaper than building one, come with a warranty and saves him work. He has a DELL, I have a GATEWAY adn Cameron has a DELL also (his is older though).Cameron's was bought new a while ago, mine was a refurb and DH's is a refurb. He has complete care on his and basically he could run it over with a car and they'll replace it. We also buy a bunchof things refurbished, because what refurbished really means is that it was tested adn rebuilt and tested agin. So it's been double checked. The ones that there are problems with that aren't checked get rebuilt AFTER someone buys them and then they are often sold as Previously owned. But I would suggest just buying an extended warranty if you're leary.
gr33n3y3z replied: on the refurbished computers We have non but got them for others and they had no problems with them
TANNER'S MOM replied: Here at my office..we are very high tech. My boss is the original High Tech Redneck...for every person in this office he buys refurb.. of course he then goes in and does all his fancy magic to them..
So far I am the only one who has had any trouble..and it was a simple fan. Fixed in a day..
I say go for it..if you get the warranty with it.
MommyToAshley replied: I'm always reluctant to buy refurbished electronics. For computers, DH always buys the parts new and builds our computers. If you know anyone that knows how to build them, I'd go that route. It's probably cheaper and you can get exactly what you want/need. The parts have a warranty as well.
