Who still has their tonsils??

mckayleesmom wrote: I know this is a wierd question....I was just curious because I heard its worse on an adult to have them removed. I still have mine unsure.gif

MommyToAshley replied: wavey.gif I do.

jcc64 replied: Everybody in my family, nuclear and extended, still has their tonsils.

A&A'smommy replied: I don't but I have to tell you my FIL and BIL have had their tonsils removed TWICE they grew back and my FIL was an adult the first time he had his removed I think he said he was in quite a bit of pain.

KingMom replied: My hubby and I still have ours, and my brother does too.

MommyToAshley replied:
Wow! I've never heard of that! Poor guys.

My grandpa did have three sets of teeth though...sorry OT.

A&A'smommy replied:
I never heard of that either until my FIL started having all these problems he was in the hospital and then they saw that the cause of his problems were his tonsils it was WEIRD!

Kaitlin'smom replied: wavey.gif Both DH and I do.

I have mine. I had tonsillitis twice a year or more as a child, but I grew out of it as an adult. My mother didn't want me to have surgery so she left them in. If I had tonsillitis as an adult I would consider getting them removed, but I never get sick anymore. I guess I got it all out of my system when I was young b/c I was sick A LOT as a child. wink.gif My tonsils stayed red and swollen.

ETA: Any surgery is harder on an adult than it is on a child. wink.gif

Also, my mother's tonsils rotted out blink.gif Weird huh? She doesn't have any tonsils, but they were never surgically removed. dunno.gif

5littleladies replied: I do! wavey.gif

My 23 year old brother had to have his out a few months ago and this is what the Dr. told him, word for word- "When this operation is over you will not be in so much pain that you want to kill yourself, but you will want to kill me". Lol!! He really was miserable-I hope I never have to have mine out. blink.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
LOL! Do all the docs where you live have a sense of humor. (Your ped included) laugh.gif

toady_buckshot_noodle replied: wavey.gif I and my whole family have ours but Tristan is sceduled to have them removed on the 15th.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I do too!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I have mine still. When my sister and I were kids we had strep throat so often that our doctor told my mom we'd have to have out tonsils out if it kept happening, but not too long after that we stopped getting it. blink.gif

dolfinrse replied: My whole family still has theirs too. smile.gif

CantWait replied: Still have mine also. tongue.gif

MyLuvBugs replied: I do!! smile.gif

3xsthefun replied: I still have mine wavey.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: I still have mine but my poor husband is going to demand today at the Doc that they remove his. He has continual infections all winter and serious gagging issues and they are caused by his tonsils.

You are correct~tonsillectomy is a much more complicated procedure for adults than for children. I didn't post this before because aspenblue was having hers out but one of my sorority sisters died at age 20 from complications to the procedure (she bled to death 2 days after surgery). I've always been really freaked when Stephen mentions getting this done but at this point it is a necessity.

FWIW, sometimes your tonsils will just shrivel & disappear on their own in adulthood. Weird!!

mom21kid2dogs replied:
I had three sets of teeth, too! So did my grandma. It's very freaky!!!

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Me and DH both do. I am surprised that I still do. When I was younger I had strep throat at least 4 or 5 times a year and my doc never took them out. My sophmore year of high school I got mono and have never had strep throat again. blink.gif

My2Beauties replied: I still have mine, but growing up I had tonisilitis all the time. I have not had it in years (knock on wood) but I never had surgery.

mommy2owen replied: I still have mine!

redchief replied: Mine were removed when I was three.
