What's wrong w/ Gavin?????????
GavinsMommy wrote: Okay so he's been acting weird the past hour. He's been feeding...but he'll pull off the breast like he's not wanting it and then immediately he searches for it again and gets fussy until I latch him on again. But he keeps pulling off...and he wiggles like crazy while he's feeding. I don't know what's wrong w/ him.........he maybe feels a little warm but maybe it's just me...what's wrong w/ him? Any ideas?
He has thrush and doc said the medicine wasn't getting rid of it so maybe it's bothering him???? I don't know!!
moped replied: Jack used to do that all the time - all the time........he needs a burp most likely or a couple.
How often does he eat?
How much does he weigh?
Is it possible he is colicky??
moped replied: Jack was colicky at about 3 weeks old and he would fuss while eating, I thought he was hungry, but he really wasn't, just upset tummy
GavinsMommy replied: he never stops eating!! weighed 7.2 at 2 weeks...
doesn't cry as long as he;s held...dunno bout colic
all i can think of is the thrush...
he eats a minute or two and then throws his head back and cries until i put him back on
moped replied: Try and give him a couple of good burps - that should help if he is hungry............ let me know
coasterqueen replied: Are you still giving him the liquid nystatin to get rid of the thrush? A posted awhile back about this will not get rid of it plus some other tips on how you both should be treated etc. Have you tried any of this?
It could be that it's too painful for him to nurse or take a bottle for that matter. It could be that your flow is regulating as well and it's not coming out as fast as it used to and it's making him fussy. If that's the case he will get used to it..just keep trying and be patient. They know when you are stressed and it stresses them out . Hang in there!
GavinsMommy replied: some1 gave me gas drops but they expired in november...are they still ok to give him? i burped him and he burped and cried...
moped replied: Jack was a huge eater, he was born 10 lbs so you can imagine, he was quite fussy the first few months but once I realized what was going on it got sooooooo much better.
The first few months I swear all I did was have my boobs out!
GavinsMommy replied: i stopped w/ the liquid...she gave us another rx for diflucan but i cant get it until later tonight...
moped replied: That is good that he burped - I would not give him anything expired.......sounds like something is bothering him, probably nothing major, jsut upset tummy.
coasterqueen replied: Are you both taking the diflucan? What is the prescription strength? The first dosage should be 400 mg, followed by 100 mg twice daily for AT LEAST two weeks..this would be the dosage for you. I took the diflucan and Kylie didn't even have to take anything, my dosage took care of it for the both of us through my milk.
Anything less than that dosage...it WILL come back. Trust me I dealt with it for 7 straight months taking lower dosages and there is reading out there to agree. Here's a good link on it: http://www.kellymom.com/newman/fluconazole_01-03.html
Hopefully once you get the diflucan he won't have any probs. But like I said it could be something else. I just know that thrush can be painful for them.
moped replied: I was just doing some searching and a website said that thrush can cause discomfort while nursing!!!!
Hang in there
GavinsMommy replied: Can I give him the infant's tylenol now? I think he has a fever...he's three weeks Tuesday...how much should I give him?
coasterqueen replied: Have you taken his temp? I would probably call your doctor first. Kylie was 2 months old before I gave her some so I'm not for sure but I would think it's fine. I'd definitely make sure he HAS a temp first before doing so.
GavinsMommy replied: I can't take his temp...MIL threw away the thermometer while cleaning!!!!!!!!
GavinsMommy replied: i took his clothes off cept for his diaper and he has calmed down a little...
moped replied: Awww he is having a bad day.........I am sure he is ok, but just watch him and get your DH to go buy a thermometer
moped replied: Is it possible the thrush is giving him a fever?
Where does he feel hot.......cause when babies are all wrapped up (swaddled) they can warm up and it is ok to warm, jsut not hot
GavinsMommy replied: he's hot on his head and tummy...
something is really wrong w/ him...he's never been like this...picking him up has always made him stop...or feeding him...now he's just going nuts...i stick it in his mouth and now he's not even sucking...just crying
moped replied: I understand........try swaddling him up tight they like to feel secure.....can you borrow a thermometer from anyone - a neighbor maybe?
moped replied: I don't think he is hungry right now.......
moped replied: If you could get a thermommeter then you would feel better knowing that he doesn't have a fever
moped replied: I have to get ready to go out but I will check back in with you in 10 minutes..........Jack was a very fussy baby so i can try to offer advice
GavinsMommy replied: weird....i gave him the nystatin and he calmed right down
GavinsMommy replied: nm fussy again
loveydad replied: Sounds like he's running a fever and feeling sick. If he's got a fever of 100.1 or more you need to speak with your doctor right away. It's pretty important that you get a thermometer and take his temp. You don't want him to be sick and not know whats going on. He sounds like he's just not feeling good. Especially if he feels really warm.
moped replied: He is upset about something - can you borrow a therm? Or send DH for one right away.......he may have gas, or something, but if he does have a fever you need to know right away...........loveydad has a ton of kids, so listen to him for sure.......
moped replied: I sent you a private message if you can get to it.......I have a few miutes to chat if you want to talk about Gavin
jcc64 replied: I would listen to Karen. It sounds like he wants to eat, but something is getting in the way, and it's most likely the thrush. It's apparently EXTREMELY uncomfortable, something akin to a very sore throat when you want to eat or drink. So his belly is telling him he's hungry, but it hurts too much to suck or swallow. That's my guess. But you can't go ahead and give tylenol at his age w/o speaking with a dr 1st. Good luck, I know how scary it is the 1st time your baby gets sick, but I'm sure you'll figure it out and he'll be fine in no time.
MomofJandB replied: It's been a while since mine were babies, but they both had thrush. It did interrupt their eating habits. It is uncomfortable when they eat and it takes time to get rid of it. You seem to be concerned about Gavin, why not take him in to the doctor and have him look at him and give you some advice? I'm sure it would ease your mind. Plus you can write down all these questions and have the answers for now and the future. Hang in there! I hope today is better!
