Whats going on

Mommy2Isabella wrote: OK ... Backgroud, thyroid problems run rampent in my family.

I am WAY tired - if I don't nap, I am falling asleep at 7, like nodding off. It is ridiculous. Even if I do nap, I am nodding off around 9.

I have recently lost about 15lbs. And haven't had much of a change in my eating habbits.

THose are two of the biggest signs of thyroid problems.

What do you ladies think I should do?

Go to the dr. or not?

Some other signs of thyroid problems are mood swings < which I have, and more BM's than normal which I have

I am NOT pregnant, I have tested to make sure, I just HATE going to the Dr. so I am trying to avoid it unless necessary!!!

lisar replied: GO TO THE DR. My cousin Micah had cancer in her thyroid and once they removed it she had the same symptoms as you. She is now on this medicine that works miracles on her. She is happy, not tired, full of energy etc.... I say go to the dr.

msoulz replied: Absolutely go. You are way too important to not take care of yourself!!!

luvbug00 replied: my mom had a hyper thyroid and was VERY tired and moody because of it and was clueless to how her behavoir was and how it effected those arround her.now she is on meds and much better. GO SEE A DOCTOR

A&A'smommy replied: my advice is GO TO THE DOCTOR now...it also runs in my family but extremes!!

Mommy2Isabella replied: OK LADIES!

I made an appointment, I go on Tuesday at 10:15. I hope that whatever it is, they can fix it because this being Tired all the time has got to stop!!

moped replied: I have had serious thyroid problems for a loooong time and the only thing about it is you have conflicting symptoms........

With hyperthyroid you would lose weight but be hyper, so not tired. I have this type, and both do screw with your moods. I ended up in what is called a "thyroid storm" about 10 years ago.

With Hypothyroid you are tired and gain weight among other symptoms.

So they are jiving which makes me think something else.

Go to the doctor and get some blood tests, it can't hurt.

cameragirl21 replied: I agree with Jen and was going to say the same thing--if you're tired all the time it sounds like hypothyroidism but then you'd be gaining weight, not losing it...I am mildly hypothyroid.
If you are losing weight and it's related to your thyroid, you'd be hyperthyroid but then you'd not be tired, you'd be wired.
Sudden weight loss and being tired all the time can also be signs of cancer and diabetes, among other potentially much less dangerous things.
So it's a good thing you have a dr's appointment.

Mommy2Isabella replied: This is from Web MD:

What are the symptoms?

You may have no symptoms at all. Or:

You may feel nervous, moody, weak, or tired.
Your hands may shake, your heart may beat fast, or you may have problems breathing.
You may be sweaty or have warm, red, itchy skin.
You may have more bowel movements than usual.
You may have fine, soft hair that is falling out.
You may lose weight even though you eat the same or more than usual.

I forgot to mention earlier my hot flashes, I was convinced I was going through menopause at 21!
Either way, hopefully when I go to the dr. they will tell me what is going on!!

moped replied:
Yes those are all the hypertyroid symptoms...........yucky!!!!!

But the tiredness doesn't necessarily fall into that

Mommy2Isabella replied: Ya, my mom is just worried because I have lost probably 15lbs. recently, and I am still eating. Not to mention with Thyroid problems running in the family.

We will see, I just want them to figure it out, whatever it is!!

moped replied:
For sure!!!!!! Get it figured out!

momofone replied: soy milk can affect your thyroid - if you wanted to read up about it there are lots of articles if you google it. Hope that helps hug.gif

Danalana replied: Keep us posted! I never come in here, but I will try to remember to check in.
