What's for breakfast??? - what do your kids eat?

Maddy'sMommy wrote: My dd has not been eating much for breakfast so I am trying to think of new things to try. I am not big on cooking a breakfast.... so I need ideas pretty easy to fix. I have tried oatmeal and she hates it. I used to give her yogurt but she has major constipation problems and yogurt is constipating. Right now I give her dry cereal like cherrios and either a multigrain blueberry waffle or fruit. What do your kids eat??? Thanks for the ideas inadvance. thumb.gif

1lilpeanut2love replied: cereal, mini pancakes, mini muffins, fruit, yogurt, eggs

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Andrew's favorite breakfasts are oatmeal with applesauce in it (he won't eat it without the applesauce... and I don't blame him. tongue.gif) Cheerios in a bowl with milk, or scrambled eggs (easier to make than you think - I just crack an egg into the pan and stir it up with the spatula... it takes like 2 minutes to make. wink.gif), and fruit or yogurt. I will sometimes give him a piece of toast with PB on it and some fruit, he likes that too. happy.gif I would make him pancakes but I'm too lazy. tongue.gif

1lilpeanut2love replied:
I buy the Eggo mini pancakes. Kaylee love em.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: Muffins, english muffins, toast, scrambled eggs, cheerious, oatmeal, poptarts

recently I found toaster strudels that have bacon egg and cheese in them rather than fruit filling and Alex (and DH) loves them!
I prefer the fruit filled ones with icing on top! biggrin.gif

Brias3 replied: We do alot of cereal, they love it. We will also do some frozen foods- waffles and pancakes. Occasionally, I'll make scrambled eggs. They also will eat bagels, peanut butter toast and cinnamon swirl toast. They always have a fruit item (bananas, strawberries, blueberries, applesauce, etc.) with breakfast too, sometimes I'll make up bacon as well. On occasion, they'll eat muffins or breakfast taquitos.

mckayleesmom replied: Mine are the same way.....I cook Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and sometimes during the week and they hardly ever touch it. They eat the bacon or sausage and forget the rest....

During the week I find that I can usually get them to eat...Bagles, Toast, Banana's, dry cereal, or a none breakfast food...like Chicken noodle soup or spagetti... rolleyes.gif . They also like Pb& Jelly sandwiches....So..whatever works.

ediep replied: Jason eats dry cereal and a few mini pancakes or mini corn muffin. He'll also eat bannana bread if I make

noahsmommy replied: Noah eats cereal, eggo wafles or pancakes, bagels or cinnamon rasin toast. He used to eat eggs with cheese but since his picky stage he won't eat eggs anymore.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Both girls love eggo waffles. They also sometimes eat toast, fruit, or dry cereal. Or today (DH was in charge of breakfast) cold pizza emlaugh.gif .

Maddy'sMommy replied: Thanks for the ideas.... I will have to try a few of them and see what she will eat. I have given her eggs before and she didn't like it.... but I may try again. Thanks for the ideas.... hopefully some will work. She is at a very picky stage. biggrin.gif

gabriella replied: Mine absolutely loved and still does follow-on milk with baby cereal. If he's tired and has been up in the night, usually when cutting teeth then he's never in the mood to eat toast the next morning and wants a cereal bottle with the fast teat. It's still his favourite and he eats everything.

Another thing about eggs is the way you cook them. Sam loves omelette but doesn't like the texture of scrambled. baby.gif Cheese and ham toasties. He loves strong cheeses, mature cheddar rather than Gouda or edam. Finger foods when they are in the mood or baby fruit cereals when tired? thumb.gif

gabriella replied: Me again (Gabriella),

Sam is just a little older than your daughter he's 19 months. I was thinking of more things banana sandwiches, nectarines, dried All-bran flakes but if she doesn't want any of the mentioned, for sure she'll take a cereal bottle first and later she may be up for some fruit or toast? baby.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
My kids will NOT eat plain scrambled eggs. I usually add a little bit of Montreal Chicken Spice to it... or in other words... bbq chicken seasoning... they'll eat it then, and will usually have seconds. Even my 10 month old will eat it.

As for other breakfast foods... once a week we make a couple different types of muffins... usually bran, blueberry and jam muffins... this week we had italian sausage one night for dinner... and it was a big package (Costco sized) so with the leftovers, I cut it up pretty small, fried up some onions and shredded carrots, grated some cheese... got dh to buy Pillsbury crescent rolls... i put a spoonful of sausage pieces on the flat roll, added a spoonful of fried onions and carrots, added a handful of cheese... and rolled the crescent roll to cover all the mix - shaped like a ball... put them in the oven until golden brown... YUM! Kinda like a pizza pocket... but with breakfast food... the kids loved em...and they freeze and re-heat really well too!

Cottage cheese with some toast and fruit preserves is good too. My kids love to mix it all up to "change the color" before eating it.

Pancakes I only make about once every two weeks... but I make lots, child portionned sized. I freeze them in a baggie, and I only take out the number I need... they reheat really well in the microwave. Sometimes I add blueberries, or other berries, or chocolate chips, whatever... I've even added shredded cheese and onions for a different flavor... rolling_smile.gif

I've made baking powder biscuits, added sausage, onion and cheese to them... they're so yummy... and they're not too crumbly, so dh likes to take them with him to work to have as a morning snack. I make them in muffin tins... so they're all the same really... and I make lots, and freeze them. They freeze and re-heat great too!

Also for eggs... she might be al ittle young... but she could make her own omelette. She can put the cut up veggies or cheese or whatever in a ziploc baggie... then you crack in the egg and close the bag... have her squish the egg around to coat the veggies... then put the baggie in a pot of boiling water until the egg is done... it slides right out and is shaped like a roll... rolling_smile.gif

Maddy'sMommy replied:
The crescent rolls with the sausage sounds good... I bet my dh would love that too. I will have to try it. The egg idea is great too. Thanks for the great ideas. I have yet to go to the grocery this week.... but I will have to pick up some new things and try them out. Thanks.

Maddy'sMom replied: Regular Quaker oatmeal- with applesauce or pureed jar fruit mixed in.

Scrambled eggs w/Toast and fruit.

Cheerios, Alpha Bits, Kix w/milk.

Yogurt (YoBaby is not constipating, it contains a dietary fiber)

Fresh fruit- bananas, apple, pear, pureed jar fruits

Eggo Whole Wheat waffles w/peanut butter

Whole Wheat pancakes (I just cook up a batch and freeze them, and pull them out when I need one, takes 1 minute)

All breakfast w/milk and fruit

Nina J replied: Emily has lots of different things:

Fruit, I cut up all different kinds of fruit in a bowl for her. Sometimes she wants yogurt mixed with it.
Boiled Eggs
Toast
Omlette
Fried tomatoes

We always have toast, eggs and bacon on Saturday. That's her favorite breakfast. She has fruit about 3 outs of 7 days, on Saturday it's always the same, and on the other days it's something else.

Maddy'sMommy replied: Thanks for all the suggestions.... although she is still not eating much for breakfast. She seems to not really be hungary until 9 or 10... she wakes at 7. Does anyone elses child not eat much early? She will drink her milk but not realyy eat more than a few bites. biggrin.gif

Nina J replied: Emily doesn't like to eat as soon as she gets up. She waits for an hour or more until she'll have breakfast.

She eats alot in the morning though, because most days as soon as she's up she's moving around. She runs around alot before breakfast so she gets hungry.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Personally, I get sick if I eat when I first get up. I wait at least an hour, sometimes more.
