What the heck is going on with Katherine???

kit_kats_mom wrote: Last night I conked out at 8. Waaaay early for me. DH forgot to turn on the baby monitor when he came to bed and I awoke at midnight to a horrible cry.

I jumped ot of bed and found K standing in the hallway wailing. I picked her up and her pants were soaked so I changed her diaper (this never happens). She was giggling and talking to me the whole time. I went to put her back in bed and I saw something in the dim light that I thought was a piece of cereal bar that we keep next to her bed since she wakes up hungry every night. Well, I go to pick it up and EWWWW it was barf!!! I turn on the light and it looks like a vomitorum...it's everywhere....including all over her pants and hence me since I picked her up. Blech!

So I brought her to bed with DH and I so that I could keep an eye on her for the rest of the night. Took me awhile to get back to sleep because I thought a) maybe she had choked on the cereal bar and what would have happened if I didnt' hear her since the monitor wasn't on? or B. maybe she had an allergic reaction to the steroid cream that we put on her leg rash last night or even c) maybe it was her molars just giving her grief and the extra saliva combined with the mucus from her long lasting cold made her tummy upset. She wasn't running a fever or anything this morning and besides being extra snotty and sneezing, she was acting fine, albeit clingy.

I told the sitter what happened and she said that her son (19 mos) had done the exact same thing last night but not any of the other kids. What the Heck is that all about???

Katherine cried when I tried to leave so I sat on the couch and watched Barney with her and gave her extra snuggles. She still cried when I left though and i felt bad but my work is crazy right now. Even the sitters older son said "she never cries when you leave. That's wierd". Now I feel really bad. I'm going to try to get all of my work done early so I can go pick her up after naptime.

Poor Kit Kat! bawling.gif wub.gif

There are a few really bad virus's going around right now, I had to take Kiley to the Dr last week, and Azaria went to the er the other night, because she said she could not breathe....
the ER Dr told me there are a few things going around, one kids are throwing up, and diarrhea and high temp....
Hopefully it will just pass, the Dr told me try to get them to drink ALOT to help it pass though

I hope she feels better!!!

Bailey seems to throw up randomly about every six months. Sometimes due to drinking milk at bedtime and getting a bad burp that makes everything come up or from a virus. Hopefully it was just a fluke.

Last time Bailey did it I blamed it on too many grapes. I had to clean grape skins out of the washer for a couple days. Yuck.

jcc64 replied: Well, I'm sure she'll recover from whatever virus caused the barf-o-rama, but I would have had the same reaction about the choking/cereal bar thing. I have profound choking-while-I'm not around fears. When I go out and leave my older boys alone, I do not allow them to eat anything for the same reason. I probably would rethink the cereal bar on the night table, Cary. Let her wake you if she needs food in the middle of the night, why take the chance?

Sunflower04 replied: ohmy.gif Poor kid. I hope she feels better soon.

kit_kats_mom replied:
I thought the same thing last night. tongue.gif

I guess I'll just try to go to bed earlier because she' usually up at 1:30 and 3:30 am whining for food. We even started feeding her a protein (1-2 T of peanut butter) and a carb (bread or crackers) right before bed to try and stop it but it doesn't work. The little ninny is eating more but only tiny bits 8-10 times a day. Unfortunataly, two of those times happen when we should all be asleep. bawling.gif

redchief replied: Hope all your kids are feeling better soon. Better than a 20 year old with vertigo though. GEEZ what a baby he's been! biggrin.gif

On the vomit aspiration thing though... Most children beyond the age of one no longer sleep on their backs, but choose their sides. This would tend to clear any vomit from the airway so that aspiration doesn't occur. It is good, however to be concerned about that. It can be dangerous if vomit is inhaled. As long as there isn't any wheezing or unusual noise after a pukie session, it is mostly safe to say all the nasties found their way to wherever it is we'll be cleaning it up from. I've also found that even the most sound sleepers, and sickest kids, nearly always wake up and assume the desired puking position prior to blowing.

I hope that puts your minds somewhat at ease!

Remember... there's always room for Jello wink.gif

Thanks RedChief.

It's awesome to have a guy that knows his stuff on here. thumb.gif

Nope, vomit asperation did not even occur to this worry wart...thanks for giving me something else to add to my list of crap to stress about. tongue.gif

I was worried that she could have choked on one of the cereal bars that I leave by her bed for the midnight (and 3am) snacks that she always wakes up for. I'll be doing that differently now. sad.gif

redchief replied:

Oops... sorry. Didn't mean to cause undo worry. I misunderstood your reference to choking.
