What position do you use?
ilovemybaby wrote: I've been reading the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding book and I've read all the different positions for feeding. And I think I like the lying down one the most. I know I won't always be able to lie down to feed but I know that when I fed Abby after she was born I did it lying on the hospital bed with the head raised. And it was the only time that it went well. She latched on right and it didn't hurt and I was falling asleep HAHA The other times I fed her sitting up and I hated it. My back, neck and shoulders were sore and she was heavy to hold in that position so my arms got really sore too.
Just wondering what position/s you found easiest?
luvmykids replied: With the twins I can't remember the name, I think it might have been called the football? I laid them across my arm, from elbow to wrist so that my hand was under their head, it was the only way I could do them both at once. When they started getting bigger I had to just do one at a time and then I used my boppy like crazy.
mckayleesmom replied: I couldn't breastfeed laying down.....probably because my boobs were too big . I actually had to beg my doctor to let me raise the bed a little for the first feeding because they don't like you to sit up right after surgery. He agreed to let me to nurse...then right back down after.
coasterqueen replied: When they were smaller the cradle hold or lying down. As they got (get) older I don't really have a position. I try to start out in the cradle or lying down but they eventually go in all different directions thinking my breast will go along with them. THat's the stage Megan is in right now.
ilovemybaby replied: Thanks everyone.
Karen does it hurt when they move into a different position or are you used to it by now?
coasterqueen replied: Nah, not really. Sometimes it does if I don't kinda move along with her so-to-speak, but for the most part no.
MyLuvBugs replied: I had to have a different position for each boob. That's the only way the she and I were comfy. So on the right it was the Football (tucked under my arm) hold, and the left if was across the body in a cradle hold.
ilovemybaby replied: Thanks everyone! I guess I will try the lying down position for when I'm at home and have access to a bed or the couch HAHA and the cradle hold for when we are not at home. I used the cradle hold last time and I'm sure I would have got used to it. I tried the football hold but I just couldn't get it. Mind you, the midwife wasn't very helpful. If I have someone there who is willing to spend the time helping me get it right and going through it slowly with me (explaining) then I think that will be really helpful.
Bamamom replied: I use the crossover - it lets me control his head so he doesn't decide to take my nip on a roadtrip!
holley79 replied: All I can say is "Boppy pillow! boppy pillow! boppy pillow!" That has saved my back from breaking. I use the cradle (?) hold, the football hold when I am pumping and nursing and the lying down position when we are napping. I hope this time goes better.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I liked the crossover the best! But I would sometimes do the football...I think that's what it's called...where baby is under armpit area and on the same boob as the arm you're holding with. Lying down never worked that well for me because I have very small breasts, even when BF, so the girls sorta got lost in the mattress!! LOL!!! I'm open to trying anything though....
ashtonsmama replied: I've used the Bobby since the beginning, GET ONE if you don't have one already Renee. It's awesome. I usually lay Ash on that and get him latched on, and sometimes recline a little in the arm chair, and that's really comfortable. Nursing laying down is fine too for us.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I use the cradle hold, and lying down. In the beginning I tried the football hold a few times because someone told me it might be easier to latch him on that way because of my flat nipples (it did help) but it wasn't really comfortable for me so once the flat nipple problem went away I stopped doing that. I didn't like the crossover one either.
The Boppy didn't work for me either. It just didn't fit around me very well and it was making everything more frustrating instead of helping. I'll try it again next time though.
coasterqueen replied: The boppy didn't work for my fat stomach. It kept slipping away. The My Brest Friend worked AWESOME for me. I loved that Bf pillow.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I personally hated the Boppy too for BF. Always slipped out of place or felt way too bulky! Maybe find a consignment store and pick one up. You can always buy new covers for them. I would even send you mine, but I liked it for propping the baby up when they were learning to sit on their own.
ilovemybaby replied: Thanks all! I'm actually planning on getting a pillow but it's not a Boppy. If I can find the link for it I'll post it. I also have a Tri pillow which a friend of mine used so I guess they are probably just as good?
