What kind of shoes do you buy your kids?

mckayleesmom wrote: Right after xmas, me, dh , mil, sil and kids in tow went to the mall. We took Mckaylee and Russell into payless to get some shoes and Desi picked out a pair and dh's sister scoffed and made a remark to her mom that she would get Desi's shoes somewhere else....Leithans mom told me about it later.

We do buy the kids one or 2 more expensive pairs of shoes a year....but we don't buy them everytime. We usually go to Payless, Target or other shoe stores for play shoes and sandals.

Dh sister only buys Desi name brand ...like 100 dollar shoes. I really felt like telling her that she better get use to Payless because when her mom moves here shortly she is in for a rude awakening...they are not letting her come with...she is going to have to start paying rent to somewhere and taking care of Desi on her own.

Sure I could afford to buy my kids name brand shoes all the time if.....A. I don't pay rent...B. I get welfare and free child care C. My mommy pays for everything and I don't fork over anything D. I get my paycheck all to myself.

Right before we left Leithans mom gave me a huge box of shoes for Mckaylee.....Some name brand and alot that weren't.....They were shoes that Leithans mom bought for Desi and Rachell wouldn't let her wear......How stupid.

holley79 replied: Wal Mart, Payless, Target. Annika does have name brand shoes which I got for 75% off at Academy. I got her some little Mudds over the weekend from Dillards but they were 75% off with an additional 25% off. I will not pay over 10.00 for a pair of shoes she is going to out grow. Just me. Now if she had to have special shoes that would be a different story but she doesn't.

A&A'smommy replied: UM kids grow out of shoes WAY to quickly to pay $100 for a pair of shoes, when she gets older and her feet stop growing (you 16 or so) then I will pay that kind of money (if she can show me that she will take care of them!!!) thats ridiculous!!!!

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Katy has the slowest growing feet ever (been wearing the same size for over a year...10's) and LOVES shoes so she probably 20 pairs. all bought at target or payless and her flip flops from the surf shop...but those were on clearance for $2 biggrin.gif (except crocs...those are the only 'real' shoes I buy her due to teh material being better than the fake ones...and like I said amazing non growing foot)

Matt has wide feet (that grow fast measures 13.5)and is really hard on shoes. we are able to buy a full size up for him and that doesn't bother him at all so we tend to buy him Vans because they will actually last until he outgrows them instead of cheaper shoes that we have actually had to replace before he has outgrown them. He will also have like 3 pairs ever (regular shoes, boots, sandals)....so spending $30-40 doesn't phase me with those his boots can cheaper but due to fit even his flip flops have been $20+ still spend way less on his shoes at any given size than Katy's

JOhnny....he is pretty much exclusively target though to be fair he has only been walking for like 2 months. I might buy him some crocs........but might not. he is really into being independent but his feet are soooooooo small and I think the only kind they have has a tight top so if he couldn't put them on himself no point.

mckayleesmom replied: My take is....Im going to buy the less expensive brand until my kids deem them "uncool". rolling_smile.gif

luvmykids replied: They have a lot of Skechers but that's because we have an outlet. I buy their shoes wherever I see what we need at the time for the price I'm in the mood to pay laugh.gif

Colt's boots are the exception though....since he wears them all day everyday I buy him the Ariats b/c the others are like walking on concrete. They're about $75 a pair but I get them big too and he gets enough wear out of them that I don't feel like I'm wasting my money.

A&A'smommy replied: Oh yeah I did almost buy alyssa a pair of crocs but they didn't have her size last time I was at a shoe store tongue.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
Sketchers are my favorite.....Those are probably the only name brand shoes I will buy them......they last forever and are cute and comfy......I haven't bought them in a while because I use to get them at the PX where they were discounted.

Our Lil' Family replied: I'll pay about $35 for some tennis shoes, usually sketchers, because I think that' important, it's the ones he wears the most. Dress shoes that he wears for 2 hours once a week (or less since he takes them off as soon as he gets to church rolleyes.gif ), those come from Target or Payless...even Ebay.

Mommy2Isabella replied: We get all of Bella's shoes at Target. She has one pair of shoes we got from a boutique last year and we got them too big and those were $24 ... I just can't see spending 20+ on shoes, except my one impulse boutique shoe ... She just outgrows stuff so quickly, I don't really even like paying full price for clothing for the kids for the same reason.

sparkys2boys replied: Wwe buy whatever is cute and the boys like. I don't beleive in spending tons of money so they can wear them to school and have them covered in mud on the first wet day etc. They are playing in the shoes not modeling them wacko.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: payless, walmart, target, kmart, and MIL will get someboots (never worn) at year sales. Now her one pair pageant shoes I did spend a little more on but they still came from payless they just were not on sale. I hate spending so much on something she will either wear out fast or outgrow. she needs a couple more pairs now so I am looking at payless (BOGO biggrin.gif ) Oh and she has her on pair of tennies that I cant even remember where I got them but she wore them for a pageant and now for cheerleadingbut I wont let her outside in them. Once cheer is done she can wear them out. I would rather spend less and get her more than spend more and get less.....same for clothes.

stella6979 replied: Payless, Target, Walmart....wherever there's a good sale. I've never been one to care for name brands so I'll buy my shoes at those places too. I actually think the whole name brand thing is ridiculous as most people just see it as a status symbol and I really couldn't care less what people think of me....especially when it comes to what I'm wearing. dry.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
Ditto...

For example.....the shoes we got Russell from Payless were Airwalks.....Remember when Airwalks were all the rage and were 100 dollars a pop?

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: The boys each wore a pair of StrideRites when they were first starting to walk, I bought them at the outlet for $35 which I thought was way too much, but I felt pressured to get something good for first time shoes. Otherwise I get their shoes at Payless or Target. Wil loves the Airwalks from Payless. I think we also own a couple pairs from Old Navy. Oh and a couple pair of Adidas from Footlocker...those were 2 for $50 which was sortof on the higher side. Lisa (myblueyedbabies helped me pick those out!). Reminder though, all Wil's shoes were handed down to Wesley, so I haven't had to double up at all! wink.gif

I am in a playgroup for Wesley with two moms who rave about their expensive shoes. And it got on my nerves at first, especially cuz here I am with Wesley in his obvious Target shoes. But who cares. To each their own. I just hate when people talk about it like it's the ONLY thing you should buy... blahblah.gif

MoonMama replied: Ok I'll be the minority here. Braedin does tend to wear Nike's for the most part, but also Adidas, K-Swiss, Converse, Vans, etc. cool.gif He does have some Cars light up shoes too that he LOVES to stomp around in that I think were around $15 at Toys-R-Us.

danahas4monkeys replied: For the older kids we buy a good pair like twice a year and then several walmart or payless pairs throughout the year. for the little kids since they grow out of them so fast usually walmart or payless and since Andrew ONLY wears his cowboy boots normally walmart! and Alexis instead of a new toy or treat she buys a new pair of shoes lol! Totally girly girl so she is happy with no name wherever shoes!

gr33n3y3z replied: We always bought good sneakers and shoes for our kids

moped replied: I just went to Payless an hour ago to get Laila some for our trip - little sandlas and pink runners - I do however like Nike for kids so I am hoping to get her a pair in the states.......they are way to pricey here

I did buy Jack some Nike runners for $50 once and I almost died!

3xsthefun replied: I get most of my kids shoes from WalMart or KMart. Kaitlynn does have one pair of Skechers that I bought her for school.

Brias3 replied: When the kids were new walkers, I always splurged on the Stride Rites.

Now, they all have a bit of everything. I don't buy name brand things for the brand alone, I just buy things I like or that I find a good deal on. Aliyah has the most extensive shoe collection- I swear the girl has 20+ pairs of shoes. I got a ton of shoes for her in big sizes when we were living overseas- great prices and quality, and I just kept them for her to grow into. Mainly I'll pick them up shoes at Kohl's, Target, wherever. For gym shoes, all three kids have a good pair or two of Nikes, but Kohl's usually has great deals on those too.

The ONLY ridiculous pair of shoes owned by someone under the age of 30 in my house is that Aliyah and I have matching Uggs blush.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied:
Same here. thumb.gif

ZandersMama replied: The last ones for Zavier were Diago hiking boots, walmart, 5$
The last ones for Zander were Airwalk runner, payless, 9$

I wont spend alot on shoes for me, and my feet arent growing, so i go for cheap with 2 growing boys who beat up everything i put on them.

Cece00 replied: We get them from all over. It really depends on what type of shoe I want for the kid (I like for them to have different pairs that are cute & match with different things...Natalie esp, and she loves shoes too, so...she has a lot rolling_smile.gif ) and on sales I see. For example, I was shopping the other day & got her some Stride Rites on sale for $15. Other times, I might get some from payless or target, etc.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Usually from Target, Walmart or K-mart. Payless is an hour away so I've never gotten any there for the kids but I wish it was closer. Last year Andrew had a pair of Carter's shoes that we got on clearance for $6. They were so cute too! wub.gif

I'm always drooling over the cute little nike baby shoes and the like... they are really cute! But I couldn't ever make myself spend that much on them. They grow out of them so fast - if we had a LOT of money maybe that would be something I'd splurge on a lot but since we don't the cheaper ones work just fine until their feet stop growing so fast! happy.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Maddie is wearing K-Swiss and Ethan is wearing Vans for their tennis shoes or runners, whatever they are called. I normally don't buy a lot of shoes for my kids. They get one "good" pair a year and the rest comes from payless, target or the Stride Rite outlet during one of their sales.

TANNER'S MOM replied: Well Brittany's foot hasn't grown since 3rd grade, she wears a size 3 little girls. She has a lot of shoes, she has expensive shoes, but she has dollar store flip flops too.

For the boys I buy nice tennis shoes, Nike's or whatever once a year. Justin wears a size 9 man's shoe. But he wears them out fast, the cheap ones go even faster.

Tanner gets new Nike's when he needs them. He is currently wearing my shoe size so we do share some. But I do find them on clearance. 35.00 a pair usually. And I always buy him NICE cowboy boots. He is way over due for a new pair. But for him cowboy boots are a NEED not just a want. And they are also his dress shoes so to speak.

When it comes to Summer, sandals that are outgrown in a season or worn out, I go to Wal Mart!
