What happened to 4 & 5?
kit_kats_mom wrote: Does anyone elses toddler do this? Katherine can count to 12 but she usually leaves out the 4 & 5 so when she is counting it is "1,2,3,6,7,8,9,10,11,12".
What is that all about? LOL What's really funny is that when she isn't really paying attention, like in the car, she can count to 10 perfectly. It's when she is pointing to something and counting that the 4 & 5 get lost.
kimberley replied: LOL the boys did that too. funny.
coasterqueen replied: Hee hee. Kylie sometimes leaves out numbers and letters to the alphabet too. She knows them all but when she gets overly excited some of them just disappear.
amynicole21 replied: Sophia usually starts at about 3 or 4
Are most of the 2yo's counting and assigning numbers to things? Sophia doesn't quite get the concept of "counting" things yet - like if there are 4 apples on the page, she'll keep pointing at all of them several times and count until she hits the highest number she knows. She doesn't understand that each item gets a number. Does that make sense?
MommyToAshley replied: WHen Ashley first started to count she would always leave out the number 8. LOL! She does it perfect every time now.
Be sure to get it on tape now because I think it is so cute when they leave stuff out, and you'll miss it once they start doing it right every time. I didn't get it on tape when Ashley first started saying her alphabet, and now I wish I had.
kit_kats_mom replied: Katherine has a book with ladybugs that you can count. Each time you turn the page, one of the ladybugs goes away so that when you start, there are 10 but in the end there is 1. She usually points to each of them and counts them (but leaves off 4 & 5 LOL) but sometimes she will count each one twice.
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley has been counting up to ten for awhile, but she just recently started assigning a number to an object and counting the objects properly. But, it has been a focus for her, she loves to count things and goes around the house counting everything. At first, she did the same thing as Sophia, so I think it is normal. It probably won't be long before Sophia is counting objects.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Awwww that's so cute!
DansMom replied: I have Daniel on tape reciting the alphabet. His pronunciations are SO priceless. He is counting to 20 now---I'm very proud. He just surprised us one day by continuing past ten. I think it's from watching "the count" on Sesame Street, and we have a lot of counting books and alphabet books, so it's sinking in. He used to skip the number seven a lot, but now he skips 15 and a couple other teens in his hurry to get to "twenty!!!!".
Oh, he does just pretend to count objects---always goes past the number of objects there really are, and points to the same ones over and over until he hits a number he likes. What really cracks us up is when he sits down at dada's drumset, he counts off (tapping the sticks together, like drummers do), but he goes past four---which would never work in a real gig, but it's so cute!!
maestra replied: Leaving out numbers is totally normal! Counting is a rote sequence, and it is natural to forget something when you are trying to memorize it in a certain order. 13, 14, and 15 are usually the hardest for kinder.
Jaci always leaves out 5, but isn't counting objects yet!
ediep replied: we have that book too! Its vey cute!
MommyToAshley replied: WOW! Daniel is counting to 20? That's awesome!!! What a smarty!!!
Boys r us replied: Braedon always leaving out the number eight! I've been working with him and have taguht him to count to 10 (so far) in spanish and he remembers them all when he says them in spanish, just not english
3_call_me_mama replied: Cameron does this sometimes too! He counts to 15 but after that he yells out 20!!!! I always thought it was just him that skipped 4&5 but gues not... they are too funny when they learn this stuff!
paradisemommy replied: taven goes through phases of his favorite number..it used to be 3, if you asked him how many of something was, he automatically told you 3..in fact, if you ask him how old he is, he'll tell you 3 and hold up his fingers for 3. though for everything else he's moved onto the number 5..he'll count..1,2,3,4,5 then repeat 5 and show you with his fingers..LOL
i think taven is watching the same show as daniel cause he knows how to count to 20 also but always misses 15 but does the rest up to 20..
loveydad replied: Yes! my niece did the same thing for al ong time.
