What do you use to sweeten things up?

CantWait wrote: Ok, so I'm watching a commercial today about sweet and low I think, they say it's better then sugar, and I'm wondering, is it really?
(feel free to answer that if you know the answer)

Also, what about the health concerns with aspertaine (sp?), which is in those artificial sweetners is it not?

Any comments, ideas appreciated.

Has anyone switched from one to the other?

Hillbilly Housewife replied: The only thing I really use sugar in is baking...and we use splenda.

For my coffee, I use the liquid Equal sweetener. I use about 10 drops.

Brias3 replied: I don't really sweeten much- I drink coffee black and tea plain, but in baking and such, I use sugar. I am allergic to aspartame and have found I have similar reactions to Splenda as well.

Anthony275 replied: i thought splenda makes things taste bitter instead of sweet? i always found that...

luvmykids replied: I drink tea and coffee unsweetened, if I drank it otherwise though I'd use Splenda...I think Sweet N Low has an aftertaste, and in baking IMHO it tastes horrible.

Calimama replied: Splenda!!!

Nope, aspartame is so bad for you; see above links. We use evaporated cane juice ( http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=120 ) in repalce of sugar.

Why put any artificial Chemicals in your body just use less of the real thing

momofone replied: stevia (it's a natural sweetner)

kit_kats_mom replied: I use sugar mostly. My mom is seeing a nutritionist to help her with her cancer concerns. She told me last weekend that he's said that the two main sweeteners, aspertame and nutrasweet, both have problems. She couldn't recall which problems went with which sweetener but one of them was a brain stimulant and too much of it has been shown to cause parkinsons in rats. The other effects your thymus negatively which is your body's immune system helper. Either in moderation is probably fine, but I'd steer clear of too much.

mom21kid2dogs replied: We use Splenda~mostly for coffee and tea. I really don't like the taste of Sweet and Low or Equal.

Kaitlin'smom replied: regular sugar for baking and either Stiva or Splenda for other.

Our Lil' Family replied: We're a Splenda family.

A&A'smommy replied: I use splenda, it tasts SOO much better and dh is such a freak about his sugar

My3LilMonkeys replied: Nothing but real sugar here.

MoonMama replied: Splenda & honey.

PrairieMom replied: I have used stevia in the past, and also some rice syrup stuff, but I prefer to just use sugar.
