What can I do? I'm jacked!

Crystalina wrote: I get a knock on my door just now. It's a guy telling me that he lives up North and is trying to find a house here in my town and while he is doing that he will be leaving his pitbull and rottweiler dogs on his uncles property. His uncle owns the property next to ours. It is nothing but a field with a small building on it. The building is only big enough for a lawnmower or two. The property used to be a campsite for our neighbors so the building is only big enough for yard things. Anyway he wants to tie the dogs to the outside of the building. They won't even be in a cage! I'm assuming someone will come and feed them everyday but the the man who owns the property lives 15 miles away. growl.gif If the dogs get loose it would only take them a half a minute to be in my front yard with my kids and my yorkies! growl.gif

My thing is who really moves their animals to a town before they move themselves? Unless of course there is a problem with the dogs where you live now? dry.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: personally I woudl be finding out the law on this. sounds like a problme just waiting to happen to me.

msoulz replied: I would completely freak out about that. Totally and completely. growl.gif If one of them gets loose, as you point out, your kids or pets could be in serious danger!!

I don't know where you live but do they have animal control you can call? As soon as he drove away I'd be on the phone telling them some guy who you know doesn't own the property just tied dogs up and left and make them come and get them.

I sure hope all is well and they go away one way or another. hug.gif

TheOaf66 replied: I would maybe try humane society or animal control to find out what you should do with that

luvbug00 replied: Ok first off not all pitbulls and rotts are bad dogs. Secound i think it is not good for the animals to be left out like that. I would let him do it . wait a week and call animal control and say they arn't being let inside and are outside all the time. (who knows they might run out of water and stuff while he is gone. not fair to the animals. i dunno know the weather in your area but it's just not healthy for them. not to mention being tied to a rope isn't exactly good exersize.

I forgot to ask what did you tell him when he said this to u?

momofone replied: I'd be worried too about the kids they sound like scary dogs. unsure.gif

Crystalina replied: I am going to call animal control but first DH wants to talk to the guy on the other side of this property which just happens to be the LT for the Highway patrol. He has no kids himself but him and his wife have little goats. I hate to be mean to this guy or his animals but my kids come first. They should not have to not be able to play in our field because there are potentially dangerous dogs right there. The kids drive their 4-wheelers right there and it's an empty field. There isn't even a tree between my kids and these dogs. growl.gif I think in my county you have to have a permit for pitts. I'll check into that today.

This is too scary. I live out in the country for the peacefulness, not to worry about my kids being attacked by animals. Or my yorkies for that matter. A big dog like that would just love to munch on a yorkie.

Just to add: I had a Rott for 15 years and she was the sweetest dog in the world but I knew her. These dogs I don't so....I'm not willing to take someone's word for it. Especially since the dogs are basically being dumped in a field. mad.gif sad.gif

Crystalina replied:
I explained to him my concern about the pitt especially and he told me they were very loving animals. If this is the case then why would he put them outside like that? dry.gif I'm not going to take his word for it.
There also wasn't much I could say d/t the fact that I don't own the property he's putting them on.

I called the DW and found out that there has to be insurance on the pitt and she's calling me back today. She's not happy about how the dogs will be kept but she wanted to consult with the other DW.
She also said the pitt needs to be in a locked kennel and not just on a chain.

grandma replied: That is crazy sacry, I wouldn't let those dogs stay out there for 10 mintues without calling the authroities. That man must have issues.

grapfruit replied:
I'm sure his uncle's insurance company wouldn't be ok allowing the dogs on the property. A LOT of insurance companies won't insure a property if their are certain breeds of dogs living there.

And Nadia, I agree, all dogs in a specific breed aren't bad. Unfortunatly enough of them are that, statistically, they can be a problem.

luvmykids replied: I would not be cool with that, in any way, shape or form. What if the dogs get loose, even if they don't do any damage, are you supposed to take them back and tie them up? You're not responsible for his dogs dry.gif

And I know not all dogs of any certain breed are bad, but I agree with you that it's strange he's wanting to leave them in a field for who knows how long....I'd be very curious to know why, if they're good dogs, they can't stay with him until he moves dry.gif

eta: I do give the guy credit for coming and telling you they'll be there so at least you do know to keep an extra eye out for trouble.

danahas4monkeys replied: I would call your local sherriffs office because we had pits that lived across the street and were constantly getting out and the sheriffs office told the owners and us that if they were outside they had to be muzzled and on leases, so call cause I know thats the law in our county and you aren't far from me so I'd call an ask for your peace of mind. They may be loving dogs BUT it only takes once! hug.gif

PS

I'll keep your yorkies safe for you biggrin.gif I've always wanted a yorkie!

Danalana replied: And even if they aren't a danger, it's cruel to tie dogs up to a building. I'd definitely call the police or humane society.

A&A'smommy replied:
I agree!!!!! growl.gif

Crystalina replied: Here's what has happened so far.

DH and the neighbor on the other side went over and feel the dogs are ok. rolleyes.gif They talked to the guy who said that he is in fact staying in town (not the story he told me btw dry.gif ) and that he would be here everyday to feed them. DH took me over to see the dogs. They are tied up with log chains inside the enclosure which is just 3 sides and a roof. They have fresh straw and food and water. The owner told DH that they would only be there for a week.

Either way, I had already called the Dog Warden before dh felt it was okay so the DW called me back and wanted to come out and take them since the pitt was not properly caged. DH got on the phone with him and explained the guys situation and that the dogs indeed had shelter and even though the pitt was not properly kenneled we did not feel threatened if it only lasted a week. The DW said if we felt okay with it that he would give the guy his week to find another place for them. That is fine with me. I just don't want a week to turn into all summer. The DW said that if they were out there longer then a week he will have to make sure they are properly housed.

All in all the pitt was so darn cute I wanted to pinch him but I wasn't about to get out of the truck. tongue.gif

sparkys2boys replied: Oh good that you have it all worked out! I just hope the week is all that it turns into. I would be SUPER careful with the kids though until they are gone.

mom21kid2dogs replied: In our county what he is proposing constitutes an easy case of animal cruelty. I'd call the Humane Society or the Dog Warden.

Oops! Never mind~see you got it worked out! Guess I should read before i type!!! thumb.gif
