We're Back From Toronto, BOY WHAT A DAY! - Sleep Deprived, A lot of Sarcasim!

Kirstenmumof3 wrote: ohmy.gif We landed at the Toronto Airport with me panicking because I didn't know where the cabs where. I wasted a dollar calling a cab company only to have them tell me that I would have to pay a $10.00 airport fee, I said forget it. blush.gif I asked someone that worked at the Airport where I could get a cab, he was very nice and expained to me how to get to where the cabs. Why does that Airport have to be so darn big? I guess you all know by now that we found a cab.

Finally we are on our way to the hospital. We are about 10 minutes out of the Airport and I look over at Spencer. He's not looking so good. He's got his hand over his chest and he just doesn't look right. So I ask him what's wrong, well then the hand goes over the mouth and I look at the cab driver and I said "You need to pull over, he's going to throw up!" I have never seen someone pull over so fast in my life! Lucky for us we were near a park. My dear sweet Spencer is look for a Bathroom and I'm telling him to just puke.gif throw up in the grass. I mean what else was I supposed to do. Poor Spencer. We get back in the cab and he says "I feel much better now!"

We arrive at the hospital at 9:00. We only have 8 hours to get everything done, meaning we need to leave the hospital by 5:00, so that we can be at the Airport by 6:00. They draw some blood, we see the doctor for maybe 10 minutes and then they start him on IV fluids. I left for about 20 minutes to have some papers signed and when I came back they decided to send Spencer down for an X-ray, to check the placement of his pic line. dry.gif We go to the X-ray department, only to find that it doesn't matter what time you get checked in, if you're not coming from the ER, you're not seen right away. So we waited a half hour to have this X-ray done (which by the way I never heard the results of growl.gif ). While down there waiting Spencer's IV starts beeping. I went up to the desk and told the receptionist what was going on. She asks me where we are coming from and then tells me to turn the IV off, because they wouldn't have sent a nurse down anyway. WTF? So the X-ray gets done and we go back upstairs. dry.gif The nurses were not impressed that the X-ray department didn't call them.

Then Spencer has to have his Pentamidene, it's an antibiotic to prevent PCP pneumonia. He has to sit in this chamber and breath in the medicine. So I head to McDonalds because the process takes about 20 minutes. laugh.gif Well can I say this was definately an intersting trip to Toronto. 2 street cars crashed into each other. Blocking traffic all 4 ways and a GreyHound bus decided to make a left hand turn and got stuck. I just shoke my head and got lunch. laugh.gif

eatcracker.gif drinkjuice.gif So we have lunch, whip over to 8B (the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit) to gather up his bravery beads and to say hi to the nurses. Then we head to the Daycare (daysurgery post-op room) to have his Infussion. The procedure went really well, they gave Spencer Benedryl and Tylenol and then they were going to give him Demoral. They explained to me that for this, it wouldn't be used for pain. Never did find out why they were going to give it to him, but I asked them if the airport had wheelchairs. laugh.gif I could not even imagine how I would have gotten him on the plane tonight if they had given him demoral. snooze.gif

thumb.gif We made our 5:00 deadline, but we got stuck in traffic and it took us over 45 minutes to get to the airport. Spencer and I got through security, do a little souvenir shopping. Grab something to drink and head for out gate. The plane arrives on time and we board at 7:10. According to our tickets and the depature screen at the Airport our plane is leaving Toronto at 7:30 and arriving in Thunder Bay at 9:05! WRONG! We finally get out to the runway at 8:00 and take off at 8:10. It was a very turbulant flight and the seatbelt sign was on for almost the entire flight. blink.gif Okay now you try explaining to a 9 year old boy who's just had 4 hours hydration that he has to hold it until we get to the Airport.

If you've made it this far I hope you had a good laugh laugh.gif !

nosmiley.gif I just can't worry anymore, what will happen, will happen and all I can do is pray that things will work out!

Well goodnight.gif Everyone!

redchief replied: Wow, what an adventure. I can help you with why they gave Spencer Demerol. They also give meperidine (Demerol) to help reduce "blood-product induced rigors," or the shakes he can get after platelette transfusions. Demerol will also help with drug induced rigors (shakes after certain drugs are administered).

I sure hope everything goes well, Kirsten. As always, you all are in our prayers.

Bamamom replied: You are so awesome. You have such a good attitude - I know that will help Spencer as much as anything. Glad to hear you got home safe. Yall remain in our prayers.
