Well this perked me up - stepdaughter

luvmykids wrote: Today was rough day, but the kids had a rodeo so I had to kind of suck it up until we got home. I was just talking to my stepd and her little friend who's here spending the night and Nikka, my stepd, went to shower and her friend said "We all think Nikka has the coolest mom ever" and I said "Yeah, her mom is great ..." and her friend said "Oh, I mean step mom, we all think YOU are the coolest mom ever." wub.gif

Then when Nikka got out of the shower she got in on the conversation and said "Have I ever told you why I love you?" and went on to tell me that she can talk to me about anything, that she loves that we share rodeo together, and that she hopes when she grows up and gets married she hopes it's like me and her dad. wub.gif (She's only 11 so I changed the subject!)

Anyway, as she's gotten older it's seemed harder to maintain our relationship, and I've been worried lately that we were kind of slipping apart. And our marriage is not perfect but I'm glad she sees it as a good example, we must not be so bad! She told her friend "They never fight, except to wrestle." (Not true, but at least we've succeeded in keeping it away from her!)

Made me feel so good. wub.gif

kayla's mama replied: Awww, thats so sweet. Thats awesome that she thinks you are a cool mom wink.gif

luvmykids replied: TY, and especially b/c we've had some really rough patches and I've felt waaaaay less than a good stepmom! I've always been happy enough for us just to tolerate each other, and so many times felt like we'd just co-exist, never realizing how much deeper than that it is for her. I've had to work hard on my part to get past thinking of her as "DH's daughter", which is sad, but the moral of the story is even if it doesn't come easy or naturally it's not hopeless!

A&A'smommy replied: awwwww what a sweetheart!!!! i didn't know you had a stepd blush.gif anyway I'm glad she cheered you up!!

CAMSMOM1 replied: Monica, you are a GREAT Mom!!!!!! I'm so glad your stepdaughter is just as loving and thoughtful as you are. And for an 11 year old, and her friends, to say that you're cool, means a lot! So many girls these days are looking for that stability in their home, and a loving relationship between their parents. You are doing such a great job, and it's always nice to have that affirmation from your children. wub.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: thumb.gif I am so happy for you that it perked you up, to know that you are thought of higly in the eyes of two 11yr olds. wub.gif There are certain to be days when the feelings of coexisting & tolerating of one another will increase esp as she enter the teenage years, but as long as you are on the pedestal that you are in her eyes wub.gif , I think that you will make it to the other side not unscathed, but good.

That is also great that you two so not fight in front of your children.

TeagansMom609 replied: Im SO glad thing are getting better between the two of you! I hope it stays that way! thumb.gif

amymom replied: That is so sweet wub.gif . Hey if you can be cool in the eyes of a preteen you have it made. You must really be doing a great job! thumb.gif Keep it up.

Bee_Kay replied: That's really sweet smile.gif What a wonderful thing to hear!!

Kids are the same with me..... at least my younger daughters friends smile.gif They think my older daughter has lost her mind though !!

moped replied: I didn't know you had a step daughter - how nice of her!

3xsthefun replied: That is so sweet of her. wub.gif

fashionmumofboys replied: That is so sweet of her. You should be so proud. thumb.gif
