Well-baby 2 year checkup - Daniel's stats

DansMom wrote: Daniel had his 2 year well-baby visit this morning. He weighed in at 23 pounds 2 ounces (I was hoping for 24 pounds), and measured at 34.5 inches long. The pediatrician said DH was probably the same kind of beanpole, and that Daniel's growth was on track and as expected.

He'd like Daniel to get 1400 mg. of calcium daily, by any route that works (fortified soy milk, fortified OJ, Tums), since Daniel doesn't have cows milk, and keep with the multivitamins with iron.

He thought Daniel's language was well-developed for a 2YO, which surprised me. Daniel's been stuttering (the ped called it "persevering" I think), but apparently this is a normal part of language development in these toddler years.

A nutritionist is not covered by my HMO, so I'll need to decide whether/when to make an appointment. If I can change to the PPO in January, I might be able to get it 50% covered, which would be better than nothing. So that is on hold, but the regular pediatrician said calcium and iron are his only concern at this point. I already know that these should be given separately for ideal benefit. It was basically a good visit!

MomToMany replied: thumb.gif Yay Daniel! He's doing great! And an appointment with a nutritionist any time would be better than not seeing one at all. It might be better later on when he might get picky with his food, so you can get some ideas with that.

I'm glad the appointment went well!!

ediep replied: sounds like a good appointment. Glad he is doing well.
Does he like OJ? I know that they make calcium enriched OJ, but Jason won't drink it. Good luck

LovingmyBoriqua replied: Man i think my son is just carrying too much weight than EJ havent had his 3 yr check up when he had his ear tubes they weight him i believe he was 34-37 lbs( 2 1/2 yrs old) he was a big baby when he was born he was 9lbs, 1, 20 in long when he was born... But glad your son is healthy though. Ej doesnt have his 3 yr check up til Jan i cant make an appt til the end of Dec.

jcc64 replied: Corey was nowhere near 23lbs at her 2 yr check, only now getting within striking distance.
I wouldn't worry about his size, Tracy.
Fortified OJ is pretty much the best way to get calcium. It shouldn't be too difficult to make the quota.
Sounds like he's doing just fine!

DansMom replied: Thanks everybody! Yeah, I don't worry too much about the weight anymore---as long as he's eating and getting taller and has lots of energy. He hardly ever gets sick, so we must be doing something right.

I bought some calcium fortified juice last night---he wouldn't drink that or soy milk this morning sad.gif But we'll keep trying...

LovingmyBoriqua, Daniel is only in the fourth percentile---don't compare with him! Most babies are the weight they should be smile.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: way to grow, I am wondering how much Kaitlin weighs she is also on the small side but I have noticed she is taller, and eatinglike a little piggy these past few days so maybe we are in another growth spurt.

amynicole21 replied: Sounds like a great visit. I'm glad you found a doctor that is positive and supportive. WTG Daniel thumb.gif

MommyToAshley replied: Sounds like a good visit. Tracy you are doing a great job dealing with his allergies and making sure he gets proper nutrition! thumb.gif And, I am not surprised that the Ped thought he was advanced on his language... from what I've read, Daniel is one smart little guy. You should have had Daniel play a song on the drums for the Ped, the Ped probably would have fainted. LOL!

Ashley won't drink OJ either. I don't really offer it to her though because I am afraid of her reflux returning. But, she had a taste of Daddy's OJ and made one of the cutest yucky faces I have ever seen! biggrin.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Way To Grow Daniel!!! thumb.gif Really getting to be a big boy!! wub.gif

Maddie did the stuttering thing at Daniel's age. It was nothng consistent, but she did it on and off for several months. wink.gif

I agree that you are doing a great job with his allergies! It sounds like he is getting everything he needs. Maddie is still in a low percentile with her weight. happy.gif She is a 'beanpole' like Daniel. biggrin.gif

Josie83 replied: Sounds like things went well . . . I have a skinny little thing too! Well done Daniel! xx

A&A'smommy replied: thats sounds like a good app. He is SOOO cute and sounds like he is doing well.
