Wedding gifts... - what do you give

MamaJAM wrote: Just curious what types of wedding gifts you like to give people. Do you always buy something off the registry (assuming there is one) -- or is there one type of gift you enjoy giving of your own choosing -- do you go out and choose a gift of your own based on what you know about the couple -- or do you prefer just giving a check with a card?

I'm not asking about how much you spend....just a general - "How do you choose the gift?"- type question.

~~*Missi*~~ replied: I give cash why because they can decide what they want better then I can if there is NO registry.... or I go to the registry if they have things on it that I can collaborate into a nice basket that I usually put together in a wicker hamper

MamaJAM replied: I like giving candle-sticks (crystal or silver)...and white candles.

mom2tripp replied: We always give cash---just seems easier

My3LilMonkeys replied: Cash for acquaintances, handpicked gifts for close friends.

C&K*s Mommie replied: a little of everything.
Off the registry for those that we are not very close to
Handpicked for those we are-- based on what we know about them

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I ALWAYS buy off the registry because I figure that's why they registered - they truly want that stuff! I wanted stuff from my registry and was disappointed when people attempted to pick something out on their own. Why bother? Not to sound selfish, because it's the thought that counts, but the registry is there for a reason! It's a total win win IMO!

MyLuvBugs replied: Depends on how well I know the person, and if I actually like them. smile.gif lol

For my SIL and soon BIL that are getting married next week, I made them a queen sized quilt with Arizona State University logo on it. UGH, it just got it done like 20 minutes ago. I'm so tired of it. But I wanted their gift to be personal and homemade.

For friends, especially close friends, I usually try to get something sorta pricing off of their registries, or I like to make baskets of all the little goodies that are on their registries.

For people that I vaguely know, or dont' really give a hoot about, I get a gift card and that's it. smile.gif

luvbug00 replied: Umm Never been to a wedding where I have had to get one ..( my parents were the main guests) and they always gave off the registry..

amynicole21 replied: Cash for people we don't know that well, gifts for closer friends. happy.gif

MamaJAM replied:
That is so sweet and thoughtful! They are lucky to have someone like you! thumb.gif

luvmykids replied: For close friends, I try to make it something personal unless I know they're just dying for something off the registry. For others, cash.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: We usually get something off the registry, that's what it's there for. But we won't just get like a towel or something... we spend a pre-set amount. If it goes over a little - no big deal... but if it's under, we get more stuff to fill in the cost - or cash.

Ex: we spent 75$ on a gift - and the extra 25$ would be cash, if the amount we pre-set is 100$

kayla's mama replied: We either give cash or a gift from the registary.

ediep replied: we only give money for weddings

jcc64 replied: We only give cash for wedddings. I think it's an Italian thing? Who doesn't want cash?

NEWMOM05 replied: blush.gif To Be honest we have been giving extras that we kept from our wedding just for that reason. Now I guess personal for family and close friends unless I know there is something on the registry I can afford. For others a gift card or cash.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: We always try to get a place setting of their china, silver or stemware. wink.gif
