We need to start a book club

TANNER'S MOM wrote: I love books and I read alot. I know that alot you don't! But if anyone would like to do this please let me know!

kimberley replied: haha! who has time to read??!! unless you pasted the pages on the back of my eyelids... lol

maybe a book club would inspire me to make the time. i really miss reading.

coasterqueen replied: Is this kids books we are talking about or books for us to read? tongue.gif I'm with Kimberley, who has time to read?

Course I did tell myself with this maternity leave I want to read books while nursing instead of watching tv. tongue.gif

It's a good idea and might give me motivation. I think another big reason why I don't read is I never find good books, I find the boring ones that drag on.

MomToMany replied: sad.gif I miss reading too. There's never any time left for it at the end of the day. Hopefully one day when the kids are bigger I can start up again. I love Danielle Steel books!

My2Beauties replied: I don't even have time to read my textbooks for school let alone any other book..LOL! I would love to join this club after this semester when I graduate! wink.gif Keep me in mind!

Kaitlin'smom replied: I just started reading again, I have a few book at home that I want to read, and then I will get more I am working on building a library of books (my dream someday is to have a room full of book, a little library at home)

It is hard to find time to read, but I am working on finding some time. I just need to trun the TV off more after kaitlin goes to bed

MomofJandB replied: I go in stages when it comes to reading. I love to read. My problem is that when I get into a book, that's all I do! I stay up late reading, then ignore the house because I'm reading. I agree about turning off the TV once the kids are in bed! We were really good at that for a while.

I'd give a book club a try. What kind of books do you like? I'm into romance/adventure. I like Nora Roberts, Mariah Stewart, Nicholas Sparks, to name a few.

TANNER'S MOM replied: I am open to any kind of books...I prefer ones that are in paperbook for money issues...But I love to read anything..From Nora Roberts to Patricia Cornwell..JOhn Grishman

U guys can pick!

DansMom replied: Now that Daniel sleeps through the night, I have been able to sneak in some reading. I just finished a novel---what a great feeling. (I recommend it: it's called Waiting, by Ha Jin.) Unfortunately, I don't really go for Romance/Adventure, so it may be that my tastes wouldn't fit with the group. I do like mysteries and detective novels though. Is it possible to jump in and out of a book club, depending on what books were being read at the time? It would be cool to have a few non-fiction selections, too!

Cary Lynn replied: I listen to books On Tape at work and Read when I am waiting for my oldest to get out of school.

TANNER'S MOM replied: Well , I think we can vote on a read....and agree to change things up! One ficton, One non, one romance, one biography..whatever!

Or pick a author we would like to try??

MomToJade&Jordan replied: I think this is a great idea. I can pretty much read anything since reading is one of my passions. Yes I'm a busy Mom, but if I didn't find some time to read I would go crazy. I am currently reading a fantasy type romance book at the moment, but I like to switch it up. I am game if everyone else is.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Same here! thumb.gif I have to have something to read. Whether it is a magazine, encyclopedia or a GREAT novel. I'd rather have my nose in a book than the TV. biggrin.gif

I would love to start a book club!

mammag replied: I'm up for it. I love to read! I read a wide range of books so I'm up for anything! I feel like a nerd right now because I'm getting more excited about this than I probably should. blush.gif

3forme replied: YES YES! I love to read.

What about a book swap? Find a good book, after you are done, pass it on?

loveydad replied: I haven't the time, although I think it would be fun to try. If Hen ever gets back I'll have more time at night smile.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: Ok Good Deal..Lets pick a book this week. Get it and decide how we are going to do this? Discussion wise..per chapter per novel..I am so excited too.

And maybe for those that don't have time to read, Maybe there will be at least one book that strikes your fancy, and you enjoy. You never know.

Lets take some suggestions about what book first..and we will try to have the book by Monday of next week. I am saying that in case someone doesnt' have time or money to purchase or get to a libary? Let me know if this is reasonable?

3forme replied: What about "the five people you meet in heaven" I have always wondered about that one.

I would suggest "The lovely bones" but I just got done with that one. I mean, you all could do it and I would just join in when you are done reading. It is sooooo good!

MomToJade&Jordan replied: I think Wicked, The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West would be a good book to do. I have read it, but oh it is SO good. It's pretty much the Wizard of OZ from the witches perspective. I highly recommend that one. thumb.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: Ok we want to do one book a month? That sounds reasonable to me. I read more that that...but I think for right now it would a good a start. Lets do the book..3forme..picked first and second we can do MommyToJade's book pick. I am just going in order of post. If you have any other suggestion please tell me.

Does this sound fair to everyone. If it doesn't then please let me know. You can PM me if you need anything...

Hey Tracy and anyone else into nonfiction:
Just finished a great book called "Candy Freak" by Steve Almond
It's basically a hilarious account of the author's obsession with candy and his exploration of the underside of the candy industry, big and small. It's peppered with wry social commentary, a la David Sedaris or Dave Eggars. Highly recommend it!
I'd also like to jump in and out, depending on the book.

kit_kats_mom replied:
I may have to check that one out. I always have about 3 books going at a time. I download them to my pda and read them when I'm nursing or going to bed. Usually a classic (currently Madame Bovary) a parenting book (As good as I could be) and whatever else strikes my fancy at the time (shopaholic and sister).

David Sedaris KILLS me. I had to stop listening to his book on tape when I was nursing Katherine because I was laughing so hard I'd wake her up. LOL

jcc64 replied:

Then read this one, Cary. Very similiar style.

kit_kats_mom replied:
I'll have to see if it's available for download. If not, I'll hold out for that. I love the feel of real books but the one I want is never where I happen to be when I've got an armful of baby KWIM? I tote my pda around on my waistband so I always have that. LOL

Josie83 replied: I read when I have the time, I love it. On breaks between lectures I sometimes I read, or if Cassie's asleep and Jason's not around. Luckily I'm a super quick reader. I recently got into Jodi Piccoult, if anyone has chance to read them they're so good! Emotional but good. I'd join your book club Mel! Lol xx

mammag replied: So is it going to be "The Five People You Meet In Heaven" then?

When are we to have it read by? Is it available in paperback because when I'm doing a search online it only shows up in hardcover?

A&A'smommy replied:
thumb.gif ME TOOO!

I miss reading too

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
That sounds good to me. Do we want to start this month or next?

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
Oh I am so bad about this, reading more then one book at a time. I recently read two trilogies about brothers that take place at about the same time and I would get them mixed up. I don't recommend that at all. rolling_smile.gif

I think I may have to check out that non-fiction book as well.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: thumb.gif This is a great idea! I love to read!
