Wahooooooo! She gained!

coasterqueen wrote: She gained TEN OUNCES this past week. ohmy.gif I can't believe it! The doc was hoping she'd gain 3.5 let alone TEN! OMG, I'm still not sure if I believe it. tongue.gif

After her PED visit we went to the LC and met with her for a couple of hours. She had me weight Megan before nursing. Then I nursed her (w/the stupid shield of course) and then the LC weighed her. She drank 4 ounces! ohmy.gif The LC said that's the intake of a 3 month old. unsure.gif So that's why she's throwing up and projectile vomiting, etc, etc.

Right before she weighed her, Megan had a HUGE HUGE blowout leaking all out her clothes. EWWWWWW! She said that was part of her drinking too much too.
But she doesn't want me to shorten her nursing sessions, just try to correct the OS/FL like I've been doing.

And I can start trying to wean her off the shield, although we tried today and she wouldn't have it whatsoever. rolleyes.gif Just keep trying I guess.

The PED wants to see her one more week to be sure she's still gaining.

So a GOOD DAY! thumb.gif Thanks for all the chunky baby vibes they worked. tongue.gif

I have a question Karen. I always have a huge problem with oversupply and forceful let down-my babies always end up choking and vomiting because of it-What are you doing to correct it? This is one thing I am not looking forward to dealing with. sad.gif

DansMom replied: Yee Haw!! thumb.gif I hope you can ditch the shields soon too. It won't be long---she's obviously getting stronger with her suction smile.gif

Well I'm doing block feeding. Meaning I only use one breast to nurse Megan for a certain time period. For me it's 4.5 hour "blocks". I'm going to go up to 5 hour here soon. So for a 5 hour period if she nurses it would only be on the left side (or right) then when that 5 hour period is up I'd nurse off the opposite side for 5 hours, etc.

Although it's still not helping me and I've been doing it for 2 weeks. rolleyes.gif

I'm also burping her lots more often (which sucks tongue.gif ). My next step is to pump before letting her latch on but I'm trying to avoid that one and it should be anyone's LAST resort to correcting OS/FL.

I had it with Kylie too but she never had that much of a problem with it.

ammommy replied: Yeah Megan! Grow girl grow!

maestra replied: WAY TO GROW MEGAN!

We struggled with the os/fl too- and I took your advice. It took about 2 weeks, and then she was fine. Now I just feed at one breast per feeding, which is what I always did with Jaci anyway.

My little one just wants nothing to do with the bottle and will go almost all day on a few ounces, then marathon nurse when I get home. rolleyes.gif But at least I know she likes it. But I digress......

I hope weaning her off the shield will work. Congratulations! You've been working hard Mommy! wavey.gif

MommyToAshley replied: 10 ounces! WOW!

WTG Megan, and Mommy too!

I am glad to hear the block feeding is helping. It would be a good thing if she doesn't have reflux and you don't have to fight to give her those meds.

Hopefully you can ditch the sheild soon. But, it sounds like a great appointment adn you are making lots of progress. thumb.gif
