Utencils

Anthony is just over 3 now, and although he knows how to use a fork and spoon, he mostly eats with his hands still, or when he's really lazy, waits for me to feed him.
mckayleesmom replied: McKaylee started early around 1 or so....Russell on the other hand...I do give him utensils but he usually goes with his hands instead.
mummy2girls replied: jenna will be 4 in a coupel months and she still at times will eat with her hands. It frustrates me because she knows how to use a spoon and fork
CantWait replied: I meant to say that he started early also, and was really into, but all of a sudden just decided it (utencils) wasn't for him.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke eats with utensils really well sometimes. Other times I have to remind her every bite.
Madison tries, but she just can't manage it yet.
ETA Brooke is almost 3, Madison is 1 1/2
ediep replied: I can't remember when I started giving Jason utencils, but he has been using them a long time.
PrairieMom replied: I don't remember for sure. He held a spoon when he was eating his 1st birthday cake, but didn't use it. I'm gonna guess he started consistantly using them at 18 months. Its been forever.
ZandersMama replied: Zan will be 2 next week, and he kind of uses them. He usually picks the food up with his hands, puts it on the spoon or fork, then into his mouth
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Yes, they do. I don't remember when I started giving it to the two older ones... but Naomie is just over 10 months, and she knows where her spoon goes. I have to give her an emtpy bowl and spoon when I feed her, oltherwise she's all over the ones I'm using to feed her.
Zach just turned 4 last month and he uses a fork spoon and knife perfectly fine, he cuts most of his own food, except tougher meat... (like pancakes, sausages etc...) and Emilie is going to be 3 in december, she uses a fork and spoon perfectly fine, and the kinfe she's getting good with...
I'm proud to say that both of my older kids also know the proper placement of the utensils whien setting the table... they know that the knife goes to the right of the plate, with the spoon to the right of the knife, and the fork goes to the left of the plate, and they know that the cup goes over the knife. Well not over, I mean like above.
the two daycare kids I have can't use a knife for crap, and have trouble with the fork - poking the food I mean, they can use a spoon ok, but they get really messy. It's unreal. I've never seen a 4 1/2 year old smear his face with yogurt before, just by putting it into his mouth with a spoon.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Tanner was about 10 months or so. After he reached about 18-20 months and I knew he could do it well, I didn't give him a choice. It's part of using appropriate table manners in our house.
A&A'smommy replied: Yeah alyssa and she has really well since she was a little over a year old but we started at 9months letting her hold her own spoon ohh and alyssa will be three in like 2 months
Nathansmom replied: Nathan knows how, and gets a fork or a spoon at meals, but he rarely uses them, much easier to eat with his hands.
I'm not worried about it, he will use them when he needs to.
MyBabeMaddie replied: DB and I were at a hibachi restaurant last weekend and we were sharing a table with a couple and their son. This boy was AT LEAST 12 and he was holding his fork with his fist (if you can picture it I dont know how to explain) I wanted to flick my chicken at him because it got on my nerves! Actually.. no, I wanted to flick my chicken at his parents for not teaching their son!
Our Lil' Family replied: Thomas is almost 18 months and can use a fork.....I haven't braved the spoon yet. That's my fault, I'm too much of a neat freak to let him but I know I'll have to one day.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Alex is 2.5 and he can and usually does use spoon and/or fork Sometimes he needs to be reminded, but I think its more of a game, he is at the stage where he knows what things to do to get attention and get to me!
kimberley replied: jade has been using utensils for a while now and just graduated from plastic to real cuttlery. but jacob would still prefer to eat with his hands.
