The Dreaded Apartment

Kirstenmumof3 wrote: bawling.gif Yesterday I was a mess! I could not stop crying. I wish I could post the pictures that I took with my cellphone of all the stains on the carpet. I've had to throw out all the verticle blinds because they are beyond cleaning. So now I have to buy immediately 5 sets, 2 for the windows that have mold on the inside, 1 for my bedroom and 2 for infront of the computer desk. I'm not worried about the ones at the bottom of the stairs. My mom is going to cover that window with plastic and I'm going to put up a really nice curtain. I'm still sick and believe me the last thing I want to be doing is cleaning that apartment. I used my swifer (just the original one) to wash all the walls and I broke it. DH bought me a new one, so I only have 3 rooms to do and they are pretty small.

growl.gif I'm so angry with my landlord! My mother called him a slum lord and some other choice words. She came over last night and it took 3 hours to clean the carpet in the living room twice, my bedroom and the stairs leading up to the apartment. But it looks really good and I'm amazed that she could get the stains out of the carpet! I need to replace the pans that go under the elements, I really don't want to know what is on them. I also need to clean the oven, which is gross!

dry.gif I'm hoping to move in this weekend, but I'm not sure. I still need to go grocery shopping, but that requires someone picking me up or taking a taxi. I want to get a lot so I don't have to worry about groceries for a while.

sad.gif I'm so sad and was almost ready to tell the landlord to shove this apartment up his A$$.

amynicole21 replied: Ugh! That is horrible! Did he even attempt to clean it before? It seems like those are things that he needs to take care of or it would be a breach of contract or something. Yuck.

Do you have grocery delivery up there? Sometimes you can place an order online and have it delivered...

Kaitlin'smom replied: aww that sounds awful. hug.gif I agree hope you got some pictures

punkeemunkee'smom replied: That is just gross! sad.gif

moped replied: Are you sure it doesn't need to be inspected to make sure it is fit to live in? Just curious

grapfruit replied: I have had experience w/slum lords before growl.gif I say document! Document! Document!!

This guy might try and stiff you the deposit when the time comes. I know here (in OH) legally they have to do the documentation or they're up a creek w/o a paddle. BUT I don't know who has the burden of proof there. Just keep your ducks in a row.

I'm sorry it's icky hug.gif but sometimes that sort of stuff happens. Home is where you make it, and it sounds like you got a lot of help from your mom. Even though the LL is a scumbag, see if he'll spring for new blinds. In the meantime put some white sheets up, who cares what anyone else thinks!

Also, here we have a law that if there is anything health or safety related that is wrong w/the apartment you can legally place the rent money in an escrow account until the problem is fixed. I believe you have to send a certified letter though. So keep that in mind if you find anything major.

Good luck honey!!! hug.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: sleep.gif Thanks everyone! My mom took me grocery shopping and I think I have enough to last for a while. The lady at the check out said I had to longest line of groceries. laugh.gif

When we got back to the apartment the smell was still there. But I bought this product, I can't remember what it is called but its a sponge and it takes odours out of the air.

Unfortunately I didn't sign a lease. And the landlord didn't see the apartment until I was moving in. He told me that someday he plans to replace the carpets, I wish he had before I moved in. He is also being understanding about last months rent, letting me pay a little bit at a time.

thumb.gif Blinds are pretty cheap so I'm not worried about that. I really love this apartment, now that the carpets are clean. It's just the perfect size. I've taken pictures of the carpet stains, but I can't open the windows were the mold is so I am not able to take pictures there. Once I get the pictures onto the computer I will email them to Kimberley and see if she can post them. Everytime I try I can't seem to do it.

hug.gif Thank you all so much for listening to my vents. I really appreciate it. hug.gif

luvmykids replied: I am glad to hear the landlord sounds decent hug.gif I would also ask him about the mold around the windows, if he is willing to have the windows replaced or something. And at the very least see if he'll reimburse you for some kind of mold treatment.
