Terrible hip pain at night

coasterqueen wrote: Ugh, about 3 am this morning I woke up with SEVERE hip pain. sad.gif I switch sides a lot to prevent this but I can't even sleep on one side now for more than 5 minutes and I start having radiating pain in my thighs/hip.

I remember having a more mild form of this with Kylie but switching always made it better, but now that I can only stay on one side for less than 5 minutes what am I to do? I tried putting pillows between my legs and that didn't help.

Any suggestions? Sleep has just in the past week become unbelievably uncomfortable and now this sad.gif

The other thing is my doc said not to sleep on my back and I keep waking up finding myself sleeping on my back. I guess I'm doing that in my sleep because that's the only place I don't have as much pain when sleeping. sad.gif What do I do about this? I know it's bad because it cuts off oxygen to the baby and I don't know how to stop from doing it because I don't even know I do it til I wake up in that position.

Maybe I should just start sleeping in a chair (lazy-boy recliner)?

MomToMany replied: Ugh, I know that pain all too well. Mine hurt the whole last trimester. It was my hips, lower back, and pelvis. I ended up sleeping in the recliner. It was the only way I could be comfortable.

Sorry you are so miserable sad.gif .

coasterqueen replied: I think that's what I will have to do Mollie, is sleep in the recliner. It's in the basement now, but I guess I should have DH bring it up. sad.gif I didn't have it this bad with Kylie and was hoping not to have it this time around. Course I'm having MAJOR SEVERE pelvic pain...like my hips are spreading. I didn't have that too bad the first time around either. Hopefully that's a sign that my body is getting ready for the "big show" whereas last time it didn't. rolleyes.gif

MomToMany replied: sad.gif I had it when PG with Ethan, Hannah, and Kayla. I got rear-ended in my car when 8 days overdue with Ethan, and I don't think that helped. I'm scared to death to go to the chiropractor, so that's not an option.

Ethan was also 9 lbs. and 17 days overdue when he was finally born. I think he might've did something to me, or got something out of whack somewhere. I had a hard time lifting my legs, so getting dressed was hard, as was getting in & out of the tub (ours has a big step on it to get into it).

That pelvic pain is the worst! I had a hard time even walking. I could either stand up or sit down. Everything else hurt.

((((HUGS)))) Karen! I've BTDT!!

Kaitlin'smom replied: I had to sleep in our recliner a few times in the last month, just to try and get comfortable the worst part was then i could not get the darn thing down so I could potty....I had to scream for DH I hated it. I hope yours gets better so you can get some sleep

kit_kats_mom replied: I feel your pain. Here's a link about the pubic pain. http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm
The only thing that helped me at all was chiropractic.

coasterqueen replied: Wow Cary, thanks for that link, it was very informative. I would go with chiropractic care but I just can't. I worked for chiropractors for 3 years as a business manager for a chiropractic association. I also know how they can get your body "hooked" on needing adjustments and that's what is keeping me from going. My back relied so much on routine adjustments it wasn't funny. I have a lot less back pain now that I don't go then when I did and needed to go often. So for that reason I won't seek chiropractic care.

When it talks about the symptoms of pubic pain....I'm wondering because my real big symptom besides the sciatic pain I have is that it feels like my legs have been spread wide open for a long time or that I did a bazillion squats and my inner thights hurt. KWIM? Is that a symptom of pubic pain to your knowledge or would that be something different? I could have the pain one day and not the next, but when it comes it's painful immediately..no warning.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I feel your pain. I've been having this too, allthough not as bad as it sounds like you are having. sad.gif I wake up several x's a night on my back and when I switch back to my side it hurts right away. dry.gif I don't have a recliner either... I guess I'm out of luck. tongue.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Same here! I had it, too and kept waking up on my back. It freaked me out! ohmy.gif

I hope you feel better soon. grouphug.gif Maybe you could find a prenatal chiropractor that could help. Marie swears by this. smile.gif

mummy2girls replied: Oh Karen I had that with jenna. But i felt it in the pubic bone! It was so painful. i couldnt roll over in bed. I couldnt get from a sitting position to a standing position. It was sooooo painful. And laying down was so hard so i had to sleep sitting up in a chair. And even when i walked i could feel and hear clicking in my pubic bone!

Tamatha replied: I know you say that you don't want to get hooked on chiropractic again, and I totally understand that, as I currently see the chiro twice a week... lol However, seeing the chiro for the next 11 weeks or so means you can sleep at night, might it be worth it?

Also, something else I've found VERY helpful for aches and pains thus far is epsom salt. Completely safe and it really does help. If you can get in the tub, soak in warm (not hot) water with 2 cups of epsom salt and 1/2 cup of baking soda for about 15 minutes, and it really should help the low back/hip/sore muscle pains. If you can't get in the tub, mix up a solution of epsom salt and warm water in a bowl and use a towel or cloth to make a compress--keep that on the places that hurt for 15-20 minutes at a time. I've found this not quite as effective as the bath, but it still helps. Just remember to rinse off whatever part of you has been exposed to the epsom salts when you're done.

I hope you get some sleep soon! I'm hitting the stage where sleep is evading me... I'm hoping it passes quickly, because I'm starting to have trouble functioning...

coasterqueen replied:
True and it would be worth it if I knew my body wasn't going to get used to needing that even after birth, ya know. It took my back MONTHS before it was back to not relying on those adjustments.

Chiropractic can be good but I don't know I see something very wrong with needing to go so often. I used to have to go every two weeks too. To me I just don't see how my body can handle that over a long extended period of time. My mother has been going for years every week...that can't be good to the bones ya know.

I just saw a side of chiropractic working for them that I just didn't want to see and I understand why people are so leary of them now.

3forme replied: Is it both sides or just one? I had a lot of pain on my left side due to my sciatic nerve. The doctor prescribed me Ambien which really helped me sleep. I took 5-10 mg per night and it was safe for Adam.

I know what you mean abuot the chiro. I would never go to one. My family doctor said that they do things to your body that should NOT be done. I can't imagine "getting hooked" That would be bad. I think it is also bad for people to take their kids to a chiro. Just my two cents on that.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.

brikr replied:
My father is a chiropractor, so I will tell you all what he told me. He said that getting a pregnant lady as a patient is like striking gold. The same relaxin that is causing the pain in the hips in the first place also causes the problem to re-occur faster than normal, thus making the pregnant lady want to come back for more , more often. He said I should just stay away from the chiro's during pregnancy, becuase in addition to this, there are only 2 ways that are safe for a chiro to adjust a preggo person, and the treatment won't really last anyway.

Just an FYI.
