Stuffed Animals and Blankets - when is it ok

shelbysmom wrote: Hello! Shelby is almost 9 months and I was wondering when is it ok for them to sleep with a blanket and stuffed animal (the kind for babies, no plastic eyes) When she takes a nap during the day I will put her in her crib with a blanket but, at night I still put her in a halo sack.
Thanks, I know I don't write often. blink.gif

jacobsmama replied: wavey.gif jacob never really slept with stuffed animals but he did sleep with blankets by this point. As long as she can roll over and move around she should be ok to have a blanket in her crib (not a huge one or tons of them) But I don't know about the stuffed animals maybe not until she can stand up alone. hug.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I started using a blanket in Wil's crib at maybe 9 months, don't remember exactly. But I used the crocheted kind, so that there were big holes in it. I didn't start putting a stuffed animal in his bed until recently, when he moved to a twin bed about a month ago (he's 20 months). Same with a pillow.

luvmykids replied: I think I waited until they were holding their heads up pretty good, at that point I felt they wouldn't suffocate or anything.

ediep replied: Jason always slept with a tiny recieving blanket because it is him special blankey, he is usually hugging it when he is asleep. I didn't put balnkets on him for warmth until he was about 10 months or so. I put a few toys in his crib when he was able to move around the crib

My3LilMonkeys replied: Once my kids started being able to crawl I allowed them stuffed animals in the crib. I limited it to 2 until Brooke moved to a toddler bed (Madison still only gets 2).

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Logan's slept with his bunny since he was 7 months old. He won't go to bed without it and if he wakes up in the middle of the night he shuffles around the crib until he finds it.

MyLuvBugs replied: Ya know I'm probably going to catch heck from all you for saying this, but Lorelei had her stuffed baabaa in her crib from birth, and we've always had blankets either on her or draped over the edge of the crib so she can grab them if she needs them. But it's only been recently (like the last 2-3 months) that she's actually been wanting to sleep under a blankie before going night night.

dito.gif for me and Annika. Annika has a stuff dog that she sleeps with. She grabs it and wraps her arms and legs around it. I nurse her while she's holding it and she keeps it while she sleeps. unsure.gif

Brias3 replied: I was bad on the blanket thing. I always felt they would be cold so put a thin blanket over them from newborn on. I usually tucked it up under their arms so it wasn't near the face though. As far as stuffed animals go, I usually didn't put anything in there until they were ok with holding their heads up and I didn't need to worry about it being too much an issue. Even then, it was only an animal or two at once just to be safe.

ilovemybaby replied: Abby has always slept (from day one) with a blanket over her. I didn't know it wasn't safe unsure.gif Plunket did not tell me otherwise and that's the way my mother always put us in bed. In the bassinet I just tucked the blanket in on both sides and it wasn't up too far that it could cover her face or head.
Everyone I know uses blankets. unsure.gif

As for stuffed toys... I put those in Abbys crib (at the end of the crib by her feet) when she was about 6 months old. She hasn't actually slept with a stuffed toy (in her arms) until recently when she started taking an interest in a particular stuffed elephant LOL
She has slept with a pillow from 13 or 14 months. I am not worried because I had no doubt she could move her head herself and get up etc... She could roll over, turn her head, lift her head, sit up, stand up etc... by then.
