Stubborn or Independent or Both!!

MommyToAshley wrote: Ashley has hit that stage where she has to do everything herself. I mean EVERYTHING.... she has to take her own crackers out of the box, you don't dare hand them to her. She has to be the one to turn on/off the light. She has to be the one to put her toys in the bathtub, put her food on the tray, or take her socks, shoes, and diaper off. She has to be the one to pick out the bedtime book... if you pick it up, she doesn't want to read that one. If you hand her a drink, she will push it away. But, then she will turn around and pick it up herself and drink it. And, the list goes one... she is that way about everything. It is kind of cute in a way, but she is really stubborn!! I think she inherited that from Dad! Anyone else going through this?

5littleladies replied: Are you sure you aren't describing Brianna?? huh.gif She has developed a very "independent" streak herself. I can't even put a piece of food too near her face or she thinks I'm trying to feed her and shoves it away. If I try to help her use her spoon she flings the spoon and the rest of her food to the floor. It's getting very messy and very tiring!! wacko.gif

So to answer your question-Yes there are others going through this!! tongue.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: ohmy.gif Wow does Ashley ever remind me of my first DD! It does get easier, I promise it does. It sounds to me like Ashely is very comfortable in her environment. I would just let her assert her independance, it won't last long! wink.gif

CantWait replied: Wow Ashley seems to have hit her independent stage early. Robbie went through this around 4 years old. Good Luck LOL rolling_smile.gif

MommyToAshley replied: Here is just another example:

This morning I made Ashley some oatmeal, I went to get her and told her I had breakfast ready for her. She said, "egg" and shook her head yes. I thought that was cute and we went into the kitchen. I gave her the oatmeal and she wouldn't eat it. She said, "egg". I had to make her eggs for breakfast. I guess now I will have to ask her what she wants to eat before I make it. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
I just spit out the mouthful of water I was trying to choke down... that's too funny!!!!

I'm glad I'm not *there* yet! I only have to give Zach breakfast on weekends (I'm not home when it's time for breakfast during the week....) and usually I give him pancakes, waffles, eggos, or toast with jam....and he's usually happy to have those, since that's usually what *I* have. tongue.gif

He doesn't like oatmeal very much unless there is brown sugar on it... or if there are small cut up pieces of fruit in it, or berries....he's very picky when it comes to oatmeal.... blink.gif

But sometimes I make a HUGE batch of scrambled eggs, and I put pieces of sausage in it, mushrooms, some green red and yellow peppers...and he eats that no problem, as long as I put some seasoning spice on it. He doesn't eat it if it's just plain.... rolleyes.gif

He hasn't actually *asked* for anything specific yet...although last night, he refused to eat his dinner, because he saw the grapes I had washed and cut in half... so he ate about 2 dozen grapes for dinner. At least he got hungry again before bed, and that's when he had his *real* dinner.... of chicken and cut up carrot pieces, with some gnocci... yum...gnocci...

Schnoogly replied: Are you sure Ashley isn't spirited? This sounds very spirited toddler to me! tongue.gif

ediep replied: thats cute!! Jason is a lot like that too. He will not eat anything if I try to put it in his mouth, but if I put it down he will pick it up to eat it himself. He wonts to use a spoon himself too, if I try to help him he flings it accross the kitchen.

My neice is like that too! She tells my sister what she wants to eat....your egg story reminds me of my neice. My sister made her cereal one morning and she said "mom, I told you that I want toast and egg!!!" I thought it was cute and funny, but my sister did not!!

mummy2girls replied: OH MY! is this one thing im going to so look forward to when jen gets older?? laugh.gif Thats funny.

Kaitlin'smom replied: LOL I would say both! Just think of all the stories you will have to tell her friends and SO when she grows up! Too funny, she just is such a cutie and cracks me up!

MommyToAshley replied: Well, it's good to know I'm not alone.... we can go through this stage together! smile.gif thumb.gif

Yes, you could say she is spirited. hehe. She is still in a very good mood all the time, she just likes to do things her way. rolling_smile.gif If it weren't for the fact that she loves to give hugs and kisses all the time, I'd think she was a teenager! LOL rolling_smile.gif

DansMom replied: We're not there yet totally, but trending in that direction! I love the egg story! laugh.gif Ashley is great---your stories are always so funny and descriptive!

kit_kats_mom replied: Katherine does the EXACT same things. Ped said she was hitting her "terrific twos" dry.gif early. I asked if that means they will be over earlier? Ped said probably not. Fabulous! unsure.gif
