Speaking of saving money

holley79 wrote: For those who work outside the home.

Do you take your lunch with you to work or do you eat out?

How much a day/ week do you spend on eating our while at work?

I try to remember to bring my lunch and have done really well all week. I still have the 10.00 bill in my wallet and haven't spent it. The only thing I have purchased this week was gas. (80.00 at 2.93 a gallon. dry.gif )

If I do eat out it's at the lunch box here at the SO and it's 5.00 a day.

moped replied: Oh I am so bad!

I do not take my lunch - I usually buy it everday.

I also buy a coffee and something to eat on the way everyday

Hillbilly Housewife replied: DH usually takes leftovers from the day before's dinner...

we buy, when they're on sale for 59 cents, those individual cups of soup mix, where you just add boiling water and let it sit... and we buy those Ramen noodles at 23 cents a pack, and now and then we'll buy those frozen dinner type meals, when they're on sale for 99 cents. We also by boxes of individual pot pies, and sometimes he'll take one or two of those. When things go on sale, we tend to stock up though. The last time things went on sale, I think I bought like 40 containers of soup, a whole box of ramen noodles, and we bought 12 of the frozen dinners.

Dh isn't a big fan of sandwiches... he doesn't like the soggy bread... but he'll eat wraps. So we buy lots of tortilla bread. Which is great, cuz the likds like wraps too. happy.gif

PrairieMom replied: I buy my lunch in the hosptial caffeteria. Not only that, but I buy treats to bring in. Usually one bag of candy a night.
Thats gonna stop! AFter my first night back tongue.gif I think I am gonna bring cake to celebrate!

TheOaf66 replied:
u work for a hospital, very cool so do I thumb.gif

I try to bring lunch in usually night before left overs, for awhile I was not eating any lunch at all and then I was ready to eat my arm by dinner time. Today is bad though, I overslept and didn't have time to make a lunch so I have to go buy down in the caf. cool.gif

ZandersMama replied: How long do you get off Tara before you have to go back?

coasterqueen replied: We bring our lunch. Cheaper that way and we don't overdo it with eating too much bad stuff. happy.gif I say that but DH twisted my arm today and is taking me out to lunch. biggrin.gif We go out about every 2 or 3 weeks I guess as a treat.

I bring my breakfast to work now too. I used to buy it everyday but now I don't so I'm saving $22.50 each week. thumb.gif

PrairieMom replied:
8 days. bawling.gif Actually, I don't think I will mind getting the heck outta here, but poor DH...

Plus, I work nights, so I have no idea how I am going to sleep in this mad house. rolleyes.gif

PrairieMom replied:
you do? cool. What do you do?

TheOaf66 replied: I work in the Nurse on Line dept, a group of RN's that do triage and things over the phone, I work for them and the the marketing dept doing a lot of customer service and marketing research, referrals things like that, i love it

C&K*s Mommie replied: So part of this question does not apply to me, but I do "eat out" of the vending machine when I go to class. Or I stop at the conveience store to grab something to munch on. Usually it is chips, or if I have a sweet craving then something sweet. But most of the time I bring a couple of waters, get a coffee, and I am good to go.

I spend between $1-$3 a night on food.

PrairieMom replied:
cool. all of the nursing, none of the poo! laugh.gif

Thats why I'm in respiratory too. I get direct pt care, but none of the mess! I don't have to call Dr's at 2am or answer call lights either thumb.gif

TheOaf66 replied:
so the best of both worlds then thumb.gif

holley79 replied:
Tara, honey, it's not going to be easy. I thought I was going to die when I went back midnights, was up all day with Annika and working all nights. UGG.

How many nights a week do you have to work?

kimberley replied: i might eat our once a month because i only work part time so i usually just eat when i get home.

Tara, hang in there. dh will adjust and it will do you good to get back to work outside of being a mom. i went back when K was 7wks and was heartbroken at first, but now.. some days i look FORWARD to getting out of the chaos lol. hug.gif

PrairieMom replied:
I'm only part time, so it will be everyother weekend, or 6 nights a month. I will be okay. It's gonna be hard tho.

When it was just the boy I would come home and plant subliminal messages in his head. Like "boy, wouldn't it be fun to see animals today? I wonder where you could go to do that?" rolling_smile.gif The DH would be forced to leave the house with him. rolling_smile.gif
They are going to be home bound for a while tho. dry.gif

holley79 replied:
I wish I had come back part time in the beginning but I didn't think about doing that. dry.gif

Glad you get to go back part time. hug.gif

redchief replied: It depends. Sometimes, especially in the off-season months (Sept. thru Apr.) the family comes to work and we cook there. Otherwise, especially in the summer, I buy lunch/dinner. I try to stay between 7 and 10 dollars. It's tough here because it's a resort and everything is expensive. (That applies to EMS only. At plumbing I eat lunch at home)

Kaitlin'smom replied: I try and pack something, or bring stuff to last a couple days. I do try not to eat out. Not only the cost but I never know what I want. However there are the days boss and I share a lunch, each 1/2 sandwich and some chips or somethign like that, we both eat less that way and spend less.

holley79 replied:
I can totally relate to the eating less part. I have been sharing my lunch the last three days with the Det. We are out in the boonies so there isn't a lot of choices for eating. On Fridays, if the guys owe me lunch (cheapscape I know emlaugh.gif ) I will go to lunch with the guys.

The Detectives owe me lunch so tomorrow I will go to lunch with them. Most likely there will be about 5 of us together and it's worse then eating lunch at Hooters with a group of teenage boys. LOL
