Sometimes you really have to look out for yoursel!
coasterqueen wrote: This morning I went to get my allergy shot before work. I knew I was going to be a few minutes late, too. Well, I walk in and sign in and then sit down. Usually they call my name right away but today those two women were gabbing so much! 10 minutes later I started tapping my foot on the floor and getting a bit anxious. Finally they stopped talking and called my name.
The nurse shows me my number on the side of the vial to verify everything and gets the needles ready, etc. I look at her and said "are you going to give me all that?" She said "yes, you are in maintenance which means you get .50 of a shot". I looked at her and said "uhhhhh, look at my card lady, I am on maintenance but at a .20 because I'm nursing and I can't take meds to help with the reaction so I end up getting HUGE reactions to the shot when it's at a .50". I then said "if you give me that dosage you might as well start treating me for a severe reaction". She looked at my chart and said "oh, thanks for telling me".
DUH! Geesh, this has happened to me before where I wasn't paying attention and they DID give me the larger dose. UGH! And I've caught them on this numerous times, too.
I will definately talk with the allergist doctor when I go to see her on MOnday for my yearly check-up. The nurses there need to be more careful than that!
Makes you realize that you really have to be on top of things and not rely on them so much Which is sad in my opinion.
Kaitlin'smom replied: oh my glad you were on top of it! yes say something who know how often they over dose people! they need to be more careful and if gabbis is more imprtant thank taking care of there job espically the field they choose to be in then get out or fire them! Sorry....off I just hate when people are careless, espically in the med field!
kimberley replied: i am glad you caught it in time. that is really scary how incompetent these people can be. definitely bring it up to the allergist!
DansMom replied: I know---it's part of a larger problem in this country. The public education system is tanking and kids leave school barely able to think, reason logically or concentrate. People in college today act like high school kids and don't resemble adults in any way. They lack study skills or the ability to take things seriously. They go into jobs where they are responsible for peoples' lives and it's like they are still on an internship. It's all a big fun time. Am I ranting? When I get good customer service anywhere these days, whether in a medical setting or at a shop or restaurant, I'm stunned. You definitely have to look out for yourself, do your own research, etc. There are very few craftsmen or experts in this country anymore. And you have to pay through the nose to get their service, information or products of quality.

MomofTay&Sam replied: Thank gosh you caught that!! Hopefully the doc will have a chat with the nurse.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: OMG!! That literally makes me nauseous to think that people are so clumsy on their jobs and too lazy to take a minute to look at the chart. I worked in health care and it is critical that you are on top of things like that.
CantWait replied: That is sad. I sometimes think that people need to pay more attention to their job and less attention gabbing with friends
coasterqueen replied: LOL. Except for me If I spent as much time on my job as I do on boards I would do a better job. And to think I was complaining that I am always so tired because of the way Kylie and I sleep that I make errors at work. I probably make them too because I am "preoccupied". Hehehe. Course if I just did my work, I would fall asleep on the job!
MommyToAshley replied: OH MY! So glad you caught it! I think people in the health care profession should be held more accountable for these types of mistakes. It is one thing to make a mistake working in an office, but it is another to make mistakes when you are dealing with someone's life/health. And, an honest mistake is one thing, but a mistake because the nurse is preoccupied is unexcusable IMO.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: OMG that is just awful! How could they not check! I would definately say something!
A&A'smommy replied: yikes glad you got that, that would have really sucked!!!
