Skin Rash, what should i use?

tweetyn wrote: My 3 month old baby is having some kind of skin rash on her cheeks, legs and shoulders.

It feels like "rough skin" and seems to bother her as she always wants to scratch those areas, could it be skin rash or some kind of eczema?

My pediatritian gave me aquaphor but that only improved her condition for the first couple days....should i go to a dermatologue?

Thanks for your help!

A&A'smommy replied: It's normal for babies that small to have skin problems because their skin is SO new.. anyway I really wouldn't worry TOO much because it will clear up on its own eventually.tell your ped that what he prescribed only improved it for a few days and then ask her if its okay... I'm sure they will say that what your baby is experincing is normal and not to worry

tweetyn replied: Glad to hear that! thanks!

tweetyn replied: acturally her next appointment with ped is next month. is there any lotion or cream i can try to reduce the itchness and iratation?

CantWait replied: I use the Vasaline Creamy on my 2 year old. It comes in a jar, and works really well. Just a note, baby lotions only tend to make skin conditions worse because of the perfume in them. Good Luck.

shelbysmom replied: Hello!! My three month old is going through the same problem, but just on her face. I use the aquaphor and it seems to help, I feel really bad for her, she always rubbing her face. Yesterday is was so bad, I gave her some infant tylenol, her face was VERY puffy!!!
Last night I used the humidifer in her room, it helped. What do you think about putting some hydrocortisone on them? I am curious what other moms have tried.

mckayleesmom replied: Vaseline makes a product that you can put in the bath water for dry skin and rashes....After I had my son I had an allergic reaction to the steri strips they used for my c-section and I had a rash for 3 months....I used that towards the end and it was wonderful....Im sure it wouldn't hurt...Also...Aveno makes products for rashes and dry skin....they are oatmeal baths......Talk to your doctor first, but those products probably won't hurt them.

They have me putting 1% hydrocortisone and aquaphor on Kyrsten's ezcema 2 times a day. That my a help.

tweetyn replied: 1% hydrocortisone and aquaphor did help somehow, but my doctore friend said it's not recomended to use on the face area ofen since it might thinner the skin layer.

CantWait replied: hydrocortisone can sometimes discolour skin if it's used to often. Especially with coloured skin. Robbie had to use this frequently because of his Ecema (sp?), and it left white patches.

tweetyn replied: can i use on my baby's face?

CantWait replied: Just not near baby's eyes, nose or mouth. Which pretty much nothing.

shelbysmom replied: My baby girl had the sooooo bad on her face it would make her so fussy!! I used the aquaphor and thought it was working pretty good. Until I bought Aveno Baby for rashes, and I love it!!! It does not leave the face shinny and sticky, and it smells good! I would totally try it!! biggrin.gif

toothytracie replied: I wouldn't recommend the hydrocordizone b/c of it discoloring the skin like someone said. Are you saying that aquaphor isn't for the face? Olivia has escema and they said to use that on her and whens he was a newborn they gave me that for her cradle cap and dry skin ON her face.

The derm said that if they have escema to use a really greasy lotion - Eucerin has one in a bottle (not the healing cream that is like vaseline) and he said to use soap like dove (yes, for babies!). I have been doing that and she hasn't needed the Elidel that her Rxed for her. Escema is common on the places that you said the rash was (check out www.elidel.com for a list of common areas and things about escema).
