Scary thought

luvmykids wrote: Over the last 2 months, several times DH or I have gone outside in the morning and our garage door was open. The first few times we thought one of us must've forgotten to close it and blew it off. But lately we've been absolutely positive that we haven't. They just said on the news that thieves have figured out a way to release garage door latches that opens them even though the garage door opener isn't used and are stealing stuff from garages and even going into the houses since so many people don't lock the door from their garage to their house. I always do, but I'll sure be double checking it now!

C&K*s Mommie replied: oh wow!! ohmy.gif that is a scary thought! Do you have an alarm too??

luvmykids replied: We do, but it doesn't go off when the exterior garage door is opened, so they could clean out the garage which is not much compared to the house or our safety, but it still creepy to think of them even touching our door knob!

I don't know if this is the explanation to our mysterious garage door incidents, but it gave me a pause.

CAMSMOM1 replied: OH GREAT !!!!! Here I am, in my GARAGE, thinking I'm going to get mugged!!! (my computer is in our garage!) Geez...now I'm even more paranoid! blink.gif emlaugh.gif First they were trying to break into our house, and now they can open up my garage door! Crap! ohmy.gif

Thanks for that info. But now I"m a going to go inside. noooooo.gif

CAMSMOM1 replied:

Luckily, our alarm does go off if the garage door is open, and it has sensors in the garage, if there is any movement...it'll set off the alarm.

I should set my alarm now. sad.gif

luvmykids replied:
Oh, sorry! I should've waited till tomorrow to post that! But you know we've already prayed for your protection, so I don't blame you for going inside and setting the alarm but don't lose sleep over it!

CAMSMOM1 replied:

That's exactly what I was thinking. After you and I prayed tonight, I just have so much peace. That no one could touch our house, because we are protected and have angels standing guard over us. "For he doesn't give you a spirit of fear, but of peace, love & a sound mind." wink.gif I won't lose sleep over anything now. I love you, Monn wub.gif

luvmykids replied: wub.gif hug.gif

amymom replied: So if you have an automatic garage door opener ... here is another thought. Many years ago, and I would have to say garage door openers are more sophisticated today so maybe this could not happen today. But many years ago, my parents had a neighbor who installed a new garage door opener and it was on the same frequency as my parent's one so when the neighbor opened their garage my parent's would open. My father changed the frequency and all was well. But it was spooky for awhile.

Then when I told someone this story, they told me about someone whose garage door would open whenever someone dialed on a portable phone. So maybe a change of frequency is in order. (I do not know how to do that ohmy.gif )

Mom2BNTN replied: Now that is a SCARY thought!! Is there anyway you can have someone from the place where you got your alarm to come and connect your garage door to your alarm as well?? That sure would make me feel better and I am sure it would you and your family also. Have you asked any of your neighbors if they have had the same thing happen to them? unsure.gif

MamaJAM replied: YIKES! Have you noticed anytyhing missing from your garage?
Definately make sure your doors are locked....and stay safe! hug.gif

CAMSMOM1 replied:

Yes. Our garage has an alarm, which is connected to our house. Our house has a full perimetor alarm system. My DH has a lot in his garage, so it was absolutly nessassary to have it installed with our home alarm system.

Edward's Mommy replied: We live in an apartment, but I get paranoid that somehow someone will get onto our balcony. Our front door was broken for a while and I wouldn't take a nap until DH had it fixed. Once the door got stuck and we forced it open, and after that, when you locked the door, all you would have to do to open the door was push hard and the wood on the door would break. I was always scared that someone would get the idea they could get it open and that would end it for Edward and me!

fashionmumofboys replied: Be careful and lock all your doors.

Please stay stafe.
