SAHMs Out Of The Loop

Crystalina wrote: B.C. (before children) I was SO in the loop. I had a great job where people respected me (I think blush.gif ). I went to meetings and business lunches and WORE HEELS! Now the only meeting I have is when I gather the kids to find out who put cheese slices in the toilet.

It just seems like when I see someone at the grocery store or out and about that I used to work with I feel so yucky. I'm wearing DH's t-shirt and whoever it is is all dressed up and just got off of work. They talk about the office and I'm yelling at the kids to stay near the cart. What happend to me? bawling.gif Does anyone else go thrue this? Don't get me wrong, I love my children but really, what the heck happend?

mckayleesmom replied: Im so with you....except for the heels part....never been a fan.

I always catch myself singing a kid cartoon song and then I realize what Im singing and think.....Almost 3 years ago I was dancing in a club with adult music...and now my days revolve around kid tunes..... rolling_smile.gif

3 years ago my biggest worry was where the party was that weekend, what club we were meeting up at and who the designated driver was going to be.... laugh.gif Now I drink...capri suns.... rolling_smile.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied: Sometimes I feel the same way. And then there are days when Im sooo happy to be able to just sit in my PJs until Im ready to shower and not have to get out the door to go to work and deal with customers all day.

I remember hating to stay home on friday nights and always wanting to go out and do something fun and exciting....now friday nights I so look forward to chilling out cuz DH is home for the weekend.

The last time I saw anyone I used to work with was the night before I had DS.

luvmykids replied: Oh gosh I could've written that! I *try* really hard to treat a trip to the store like a "real" outing but don't usually manage to. Although I'm trying to remind myself that it doesn't take any more effort to put on a cute t-shirt and jeans than my nasty sweats .... I always feel like when I walk away they think I'm so pathetic these days, the girl who partied all night and was never seen without my lip gloss!

When I do manage to go somewhere worthy I do still wear my heels though!

holley79 replied: Well before I returned back to work I felt the same way. I would always feel so frumpy when I ran into anyone. Before I returned back to work though I made it a point to take a few minutes to brush my hair and put on my face. I put Annika in her bouncer. She loves watching me put on my make up and she giggles when I am blow drying my hair. blush.gif

ETA: I also try to put on something decent before I leave the house. Not becuase I will, most likely, run into someone but because it makes me feel better.

Bee_Kay replied: ** BIG SIGH **

I know what you mean.
It is so easy to throw on a pair of comfy pants and dash to the grocery store. I have a pretty nice wardrobe, I just have to make the effort to get to it.

Same with hair and makeup. Sometimes I feel so d*mn frumpy blush.gif

I have tons of styling products and a pretty nice setup of makeup.

So, yes I know EXACTLY what you mean!!

kimberley replied: hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif i know how you feel. lotsa hugs to you! hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Nope b/c everyone in my world...everyone at the store, at Maddie's school, etc. looks just like me! Nobody here cares. You'd think it would be different since I live in the metroplex, but anything goes. happy.gif We're all about jeans and flip flops around here. laugh.gif

On occassion I will fix myself up, but it isn't often. I really hate wearing makeup and fixing my hair when I'm just going to sit around the house all day. blush.gif

Bee_Kay replied:

Me too..... but I feel like crap KNOWING that I have all that hair and makeup stuff and it rarely gets used.

luvmykids replied:
DH asked me the other day if I could throw out some of my hair stuff to make room for him .... I said NO WAY! That is $$$ sitting under the sink! cool.gif I am a collector of all beauty products.....

Bee_Kay replied: LOL Monica! So am I!
I always try the "new" mascara that comes out....
and the new shampoos and all that stuff.

luvmykids replied:
Wanna hear how bad it is? My stockpiling I mean? For Christmas I opened a present that said "False Eyelashes" and thought Hmm... interesting gift and put it in my "reserve" just in case. Turns out the other day I actually opened it and it's mascara! (prescriptives) And actually really good stuff!

C&K*s Mommie replied: reading your post Crystalina reminded me of the Desperate Housewives episode where the former career lady (cannot remember her name) was at the store, and ran into her former co-workers, all the while her children were tearing up the store, and she pretended as though they were not her kids. laugh.gif laugh.gif

luvmykids replied:
Lynette, I thought of that one too! rolling_smile.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
I am so all about jeans and flipflops! And Tank Tops in the summer!!
When I do leave the house I dress the same as I used to, no fuss jeans and a tshirt. Never wore heals. I think I might have better clothes now than before DS because DH has a better job now!!! I actually just started getting make up again from Avon, pampering myself a little.

Crystalina replied:
Yup, that's me. I can't (and wouldn't ) say they aren't mine though because they are always pulling at me saying MOMMY, MOMMY!. I need to get a shirt that says, " Who are these kids and why do they keep calling me mommy?". rolling_smile.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
OMG!! That's hysterical!!! laugh.gif rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied: See now being a WOHM I KILL for the weekends when I can be frumpy and that holds true for when going into town on the weekends. I look frumpier than ever on the weekends and don't give a hoot who I see. biggrin.gif

So just think about if you had to dress up every day..you'd want the other side wink.gif

Bee_Kay replied:
You are right smile.gif

as the saying goes- the grass is always greener..... wink.gif

luvmykids replied:
That is to freakin funny! I want one! emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I felt that way at first, but only because I had a boss who would make comments to me like "well what about your career? aren't you scared to give that up?" Or coworkers who would sorta laugh at the fact I was going to playgroups. So I was starting to believe what they said. But one day it hit me as I was enjoying a day with Wil...I can always have the dressy clothes and heels, and although my old position may not be waiting for me, a career will always be there. I do miss adult interaction, but I don't miss the office politics or dealing with clients that are unappreciative of my hard work.

ITA, the grass is somehow always greener. smile.gif IMO, you just have to make what you do, work for YOU, and not worry about what others may think about it.
