Religious question - Just curious

My3LilMonkeys wrote: I'm not looking to start a debate here, but the polls on who believes in Heaven/Hell made me curious.

I'm not a very religious person so I don't know a whole lot about it, but I always thought that Heaven and Hell went together - to have one you needed to have the other.

But I see the % of people who belive in Heaven is higher than the % of people who belive in hell - I know that could just be different people responding to the different polls.

Are there some religions where there is only Heaven and no Hell? Or is it all just a matter of personal interpretation?

luvmykids replied: In my belief there is both but I think it was Judy (mamajam) who said they don't.

ashtonsmama replied: Well, I know that Christianity has heaven/hell, but I'm not sure exactly about that...good question. I'm sure someone here could tell you!

C&K*s Mommie replied: I also think Judy touched on the fact that Judaism does not believe there is one. Although I cannot remember for certain, which one it was.

I have not studied any other religions besides Christianity, and under the umbrella of Christianity there are many subs (at least from my understanding) that may believe slightly different things from the next sub-religion within the Christian religion. Make sense?

But then again in my mind, religion is not what gets you to heaven anyhow.

Nina J replied: For me, it's my own personal opinion. I think that with most religions, Heaven and Hell go together. But, in all honesty, we will never know if 2 such places exsist until we die. I think Heaven exsists, but if I'm wrong, I'll never know.

EvesMom replied: I think that the definition of hell varies from religion to religion. Some see hell as a burning place of tourment. I myself think it to be the grave or death. A sleep of sorts until our final judgement. So, I guess it depends on how you look at it. KWIM?

C&K*s Mommie replied: I think from the answers above it is a little bit of both.

EvesMom replied:
I'm christian and don't believe in the Traditional Hell. happy.gif

MamaJAM replied: In Judaism - we learn of "The World to Come".....which is more like the 'heaven' that other religions teach of. There is no hell or 'eternal suffering'.
Judaism focuses on the way we live our lives here on earth.

My3LilMonkeys replied:
So if I understand this correctly - Judaism believes that once we leave earth we all go to the same place? Does that apply to all people of the world or only those who follow the Jewish faith?

Thank you to everyone who answered - it's really interesting. I've learned a lot with these religious posts!

MyLuvBugs replied:
Yes. Some religions believe that there is no hell or suffering for anyone, and that God forgives all sins not matter what, or that heaven is simply the only place for the afterlife.

For me it's a person interpretation. I believe there's both, but not to the extent that some believe.

MamaJAM replied:
The World to Come is for everyone -- definately not just Jews. We believe that G-d created everyone....why would he only want to spend eternity with some if he made all?
