Recipe for the best pulled pork I've ever eaten

Oh my goodness, I am in heaven right now. I just finished eating a dinner of the best pulled pork sandwiches ever - cooked in the crockpot all day long until they melted in our mouths. This took about 10 minutes total to prepare (of course, it took 8 hours to cook) and was incredibly easy. Just thought I'd share. wink.gif

luvmykids replied: Mmmmm.... that sounds soo good right now! I'll have to try it this week! thumb.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I think I may cook that for Father's Day tomorrow. thumb.gif Scotty loves pulled pork!

Thanks Amy!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I did! I cooked it today! It's so wonderful. Like Amy said, it's the best I've ever eaten. yummy.gif And it was cheap and easy!!! I really can't say too much about this meal! laugh.gif I'm so impressed!!

Thanks again, Amy! thumb.gif Scotty loved it too.

PrairieMom replied: We will make it this week. All DH wanted for fathers day was NC BBQ.

MommyToAshley replied: Does it have a coffee taste to it? (I don't like or drink coffee)

amynicole21 replied: No coffee taste. I think that's just to add a bit of a "smokey" flavor to it. I really didn't notice it at all. I did add onions and garlic to the broth because we love them, but that's it.

Aimee, glad it turned out so well for you too! Yuuuuummmmmmmm. tongue.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: Aimee or Amy (hehe), did either of you add BBQ sauce?

PrairieMom replied: How much salt and pepper did you guys use? it says to taste, but also to rub it in, and to be a rub takes a lot of spices. unsure.gif
Also, anyone know of a good southern vinegar BBQ sauce?

amynicole21 replied: Yes, I added a whole bottle of Jack Daniel's BBQ No 7 sauce in the last 30min per one of the commenters suggestions. It's a very sweet sauce though (and we like our bbq wet).

We really just sprinkled salt and pepper on it and rubbed it in... not very much. I think there is a lot of sodium in beef broth anyway. unsure.gif

You can go to http://www.allrecipes.com and search for NC bbq sauce - you'll probably be able to find a recipe if you can't find it in the store.

PrairieMom replied:
I have looked on there, and I can't seem to find a real good recipe. Most of them seem to be tomato based, and that isn't ' what we are looking for. dry.gif I'll keep looking tho.

Kaitlin'smom replied: that sounds really really yummy. I am gonna have to try it soon, maybe this week with my out of town guest. thumb.gif anyone have leftovers? does it taste as good heated up?

Maddie&EthansMom replied: We have quite a bit of leftovers, Di. I haven't reheated it yet, though wink.gif

I also put quite a bit of salt and pepper on both sides and it wasn't overwhelming.

I hate coffee and I couldn't taste it at all. It's very little. wink.gif I wonder if it is to tenderize it?

I used a really good barbecue sauce "Austin's Own" It was expensive, but so worth it. tongue.gif YUMMY!! It's tomato based but has lots of vinegar in it and brown sugar. You can probably order a good NC bbq sauce from somewhere.

Kaitlin'smom replied: Amiee when you do re-heat some let me know if its as good, maktly in the microwave, just wondering if I can then bring some to work. Okay now I just might have to get tot the store and get a pork roast.....I dont think I have one

DansMom replied: That sounds delicious! I wonder if it could be done in a low oven, in my Dutch oven roaster or cast iron pot...

hoosier momma replied:
Absolutely. I cook roast for BBQ in my oven all of the time. You just have to turn the temp down really low.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Di, I heated some up for Scotty in the microwave when he came home for lunch. He said it was better the next day. thumb.gif

Just make sure when you heat it that you put a lid on it to retain the moisture. wink.gif

Brias3 replied:
Yum! I was curious about the BBQ sauce. I'd love to try the recipe, so glad it turned out well with the sauce- we prefer our BBQ stuff wet too smile.gif

moped replied: So you also added BBQ sauce? That wasn't in the recipe - so I am jsut checking!

amynicole21 replied:
Yes. I drained it after 8 hours on low, then put it back in the pot with the bottle of bbq sauce for 30min. I always read all of the comments to make sure there isn't a way to improve on the original recipe wink.gif That was one of the tips. I guess you could also just pour some on top of the meat afterwards though.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I put bbq sauce on it when I 'pulled' it. I actually trimmed all the fat off of our meat. tongue.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: Mmmm.....barbecue. I should have read this before I went to the store! tongue.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
thanks! I am making it tomorrow, as I wont be home most of the day and DH and friends are comming back from being out of town thought it would be nice for them.

I am planning on using the BBQ sauce on the side kinda thing, not sure they all like it.

I hope its yummy

Our Lil' Family replied: ours was YUMM-O!

amynicole21 replied:
did you use bbq sauce? I wonder what it would have been like if I didn't... I need to try it again with the sauce on the side tongue.gif Not that I really want to mess with perfection! rolleyes.gif

Our Lil' Family replied:
Yep, the Jack Daniels like you did. I definitely think it needed it!

PrairieMom replied: We had this the other night. i wasn't really all that impressed. The meat didn't have much flavor, I think I prefer a spice rub. Maybe if we had used the tomato based BBQ sauce like you guys did it would have been better. We used the vinegar based stuff (which was pretty good) but we weren't really impressed with the meat its self. I think its a good starting point tho, I may try it again with some spices.

Kaitlin'smom replied: mine is in the crock pot now, I will deffinalty use the sauce for most but not sure if Kait will like the sauce, I am going to do it on the side.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
What cut of meat did you use? We bought the Boston Butt Pork Shoulder. It had a lot of flavor. yummy.gif I ask b/c some center cuts (leaner meat) of pork seems to be bland. wink.gif

Being from Texas, I definitely think the tomato bbq sauce is the best. happy.gif

PrairieMom replied:
I don't know for sure. It said pork butt on the package. I could taste the meat, maybe thats the problem, I prefer a spicy flavor.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I have to say the part cooked in the BBQ sauce was much better to me then the other, however I knew Kait would not like the BBQ sauce hench the reason I did it both ways, she did like it. I found it a bit bland with out the sauce. I also tried it with just some sauce on it but did not taste as good to me. I have some for lunch today.

over not bad, I would do it again

gr33n3y3z replied: I only cook with pork loins I add flavor to them like fresh garlic salt and pepper and maybe some rubs ( I hate Fat ) so this is the best choice

Twelve Volt Man replied: Okay, mine will be cooking overnight, in preparation for lunch with the in-laws tomorrow. I've done similar recipes several times before and have been pleased, but I'm looking forward to seeing what the coffee adds to it.
