Question for the guys! - re: bachelor parties

Brias3 wrote: I have no idea how to help him with ideas on this one, so I'll turn it over to this board!

My husband was asked to be the best man in the wedding of a long-time friend from high school in August. He and the friend still keep in touch quite a bit but don't necessarily share the same set of friends any longer. As far as planning a bachelor party goes, I told Bruce it wouldn't be rude to call Jill (his friend's fiancee) to ask her for the names and contact information of the friends she thinks Dustin would want invited. You think that's appropriate to do, right? I mean, how else is he going to find out who to invite/how to get in touch with them?

Also, Dustin is a more mellow guy so the traditional bar type scenario would be completely wrong for this particular party. Can any of you guys recall or think of an event or activity that might be appropriate to plan for this occasion? You know, something fun but low-key for a guy's night out.

luvmykids replied: I think it'd be fine to call the fiance, is it a suprise? If not could he just ask the groom directly?

They could have a poker night, go to a baseball game or whatever sporting event is in season, etc. If they all like to golf they could do what DH did, make it a day event where they meet for breakfast and go golfing with a bbq after.

Brias3 replied:
That's a GREAT idea, actually! That's just the type of thing he's looking for actually. I'm surprised he didn't consider it yet.

Thanks, Monica!

Twelve Volt Man replied: A buddy of mine is getting married in May. A group of the guys were talking about just doing an overnight camping trip, where we could fish, enjoy a few beers, and grill some steaks. I thought it was a pretty good idea, as the typical strip club thing is overused. I also like the idea of going to a ball game. I've never thought of that.

hawkshoe replied: Generally bachelor parties are not a surprise so your dh could call the groom-to-be direct and ask him who he would like there.

amymom replied: I agree calling the groom and discussing it is a good thing to do. I have four brothers so here is some of what they did.

A fishing charter... About 10 guys went fishing for the day. Some of the charters will set up the whole thing from food to reels etc.

A paintball party. The paintball field set it all up, guns, equipment, paintballs etc. Then they went for a meal afterwards. I think this one was 20 guys.

A night at a casino, just about 6 guys went to this one.

A pizza & beer party. About 30 guys (a little over the top maybe)

I like the camping trip idea that 12VoltMan mentioned. Golf or baseball game sound good too!

J-rod replied:
totally agree.

lisar replied:
I agree. I think he could call the groom. Normally they arent suprises.

TheOaf66 replied: A nice poker night or ball game is a good idea. I had a friend get married and we did paint balling which was fun. It depends on the groom. Pretty much anything where a bunch of guys just get together and hang out is fine I think.

stella6979 replied: I think a poker night is the perfect idea. My friend's husband had one of those and they even hired some scantily dressed women to serve them drinks. biggrin.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I think everyone above has given you some great ideas. What about a skiing/snowboarding trip or just a weekend at a cabin doing something like fishing? A flyfishing trip here in Colorado is great in the spring/summer! I forget what area you are in, but even a weekend at a condo in the desert is fun, like Palm Springs. They can golf there! Or what about setting up a brew tasting event at a local brewery? Or wine tasting if they're into that. I planned a wine tasting tour for a bachelorette party two May's ago and it was a blast! We were in the San Francisco area, so of coures Napa was convenient. But I rented a bus, took along a picnic and we went to maybe four or five wineries. It was so relaxing (besides the fact I was the planner). Then we went back to the bride's pad, relaxed a bit, then showered to go out to clubs (which most people were pooped by that time, but that's what the bride wanted). rolleyes.gif

DillsMommy replied: maybe spend the day at the racetrack (if he's into cars), go fishing, I like the casino or poker night ideas too.

moped replied: He could organize a mini golf day tournament type of thing, then dinner and drinks etc....................For Tom they all went to a guys cabin at a lkae and fished and drank etc. He said it was great.

CantWait replied: Bowling....

Lots of ideas. I never even thought there would be so much to do istead of the strip club thing. Then again, leave it to a group of mostly women, and we'll find something. emlaugh.gif
