Pumpkins

Crystalina wrote: Here is Izabella with her carved pumpkin. She carved it by herself without letting me know. She used a screwdriver from the garage because she was trying to surprise me and didn't want to ask for a knife because she knew that I'd want to know just why she wanted a knife. happy.gif I don't think it turned out bad for using only a phillips head. smile.gif

And here is Evan with his last night. He didn't get his carved. Hers won't last very long. She carved it last night and I give it until tomorrow before I start seeing fruit flies and put it out on the porch.

How many pumpkins do you usually buy? We usually get them this time of the month or when they first come out and then right before Halloween we get new ones so we have freshly carved pumpkins for Halloween night.

cameragirl21 replied: Those are cute. My house is gated so I don't put out any, only my guests would see them. sad.gif
You know what you can do, though, at least with Izabella's? Add dirt and flowers, especially mums or some fall flower and you have a living, organic flowerpot. It won't last forever as it will still rot but it takes longer if you use it as a flowerpot. I was actually thinking of doing that this year...just to make my tropical garden look a little bit like fall. laugh.gif

Crystalina replied:
That's a really good idea! I would have never thought about that. Thanks! thumb.gif

I know it won't last forever but you know what, neither do my mums. rolling_smile.gif I buy them every single fall and every single fall they die before I remember to plant them. Or it's just way too cold by then and I just toss them with plans on doing it again next year. dry.gif rolleyes.gif Pathetic I know.

Crystalina replied:
LOL I love her pumpkins sunken mouth. It reminds me of an old person who forgot to put in their dentures. emlaugh.gif wub.gif

PrairieMom replied:
thats a neat idea.I wish I could do that! Unfortunately, it gets so cold here at night now that no flowers would survive. Mine go straight into the compost bin.

Crystalina replied:
You and your compost bin full of worms. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif Hey!! How do you keep the worms from freezing through the winter? Or will you soon find out? happy.gif

Seriously, I wish I had the energy to do that. We have so much we could put in a compost bin. Maybe next spring I'll work on one. I really need to.

cameragirl21 replied:
Then plant a little pine tree, like a Norfolk Island Pine. If it's cold there your pumpkin will last longer and then come Spring when the pumpkin rots, you can replant the tree into a bigger container.
Btw, I swam in my pool today, it was a balmy 88 degrees here. cool.gif laugh.gif

Sorry, forgot to resize the pic. blush.gif

Crystalina replied:
Ok, you my dear have patience. happy.gif I would have gotten half way through that and either gave it to someone else to finish or chop it up and throw it in the garden. emlaugh.gif

Crystalina replied: I've tried doing those fancy ones but never finish them. I just do the plain Jack-O-Lantern faces. The nice faces... smile.gif not the scary ones.... growl.gif

stella6979 replied:
LOL! It's really not as hard as it may look, but yes, it does take a lot of patience. I usually wait for everyone to go to bed, crack open my bottle of wine, and I'm good to go. thumb.gif

Crystalina replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif OMG with the wine. I could only imagine what mine would look like if I added alcohol. ohmy.gif happy.gif emlaugh.gif

PrairieMom replied:
I moved my worms indoors. laugh.gif except for the ones that are living out in my big bin in the garden. Those will have to fend for them selves. Although, apparently according to the stuff I have been reading they will just migrate towards the middle and the compost should keep them warm enough. I guess I will find out in the spring. cool.gif

PrairieMom replied:
You suck.

It was 61 here. We will have frost in the morning. We almost have at least flurries before halloween.

redchief replied:
If you add enough, do you stop caring what it looks like? rolling_smile.gif Can you even see it? rolling_smile.gif

The tool shed Jack is awesome considering her limited choice of utensil. smile.gif

Crystalina replied:
More then likely I wouldn't even care what it looks like. And I may actually see 2 pumpkins. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif I'm not a drinker but "back in the day" wine was what I drank. Well, I'd start off with the wine and end with the Jose. But like I said, that was back in the day before the munchkins came into my life. wub.gif

The tool shed Jack! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif That's what we'll call him. He's already been booted to the porch because of the fruit flies. dry.gif
