P's & PT's needed - for daughter

amymom wrote: Really long story but, My DD has had some chronic complaints that come and go. I wonder at times if it is 'stress' related. She is high achieving and pushes herself very hard. I many times, have to rein her in, tell her to go and just PLAY not force herself to be the 'best'. Doctor wants to rule out some MORE medical conditions before having her talk to a counselor.

Anyway, she has complained of pains in her foot since December, so tomorrow we are having her foot x-rayed. To make sure there are no fractures or other things wrong.
Also, she has constant stomach aches, with no real source discovered yet. On most occasions, these aches are not severe enough to limit her activity but they do bother her. It was suggested a year ago that I have some blood work done. Some specific antibody testing, But I have been putting this off. It may require quite a bit of blood be taken AND she has had this testing (and other testing as well) done when she was 18 mos old. (you see this is not a new problem) So I really didn't want to put her trough more blood work if not necessary. But they (the researchers) are now saying that these specific tests are not good indicators before 2 yrs old. So I guess it is time to test again.... so tomorrow we are going to visit the vampires sad.gif bawling.gif sad.gif And do the x-ray. And then I think I will take her shopping wub.gif Hopefully, I will have enough energy to make it through all that!!!

Thanks for all the anticipated positive thoughts.

jacobsmama replied: hug.gif Aww...I'm sorry to hear she has to get more bloodwork but if it will make her feel better in the long run or find out what is causing this pain then better to do it..I know what you mean about not wanting to put her through anything unecesary I have done that with jacob as he use to be sick alot. Good luck and will be thinking of you guys tomm. wub.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: She is in my prayers and thoughts. hug.gif I hope they can figure out what is wrong with the bloodwork.

You're such a great mom. wub.gif

CAMSMOM1 replied: I think it is possible that it is stress related. Stress can cause numerous pains through out the body. I sure hope you find out soon, what is the cause of this. And it'll be good to get the tests done, and be able to get some answers.
Your family is in my prayers.

amymom replied: Gosh You guys are great support. Thank you so much.

Aimee, that is so sweet of you to say.

I am picking her up early from school and we will head to the hospital to do the x-rays and lab work. She knows about the x-ray but I haven't told her about the blood work and won't until we get there. She is very stoic and will be a real trooper but she is not an easy stick so I will ask for a pediatric phlebotomist and go from there.

Thanks for all your prayers.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Good for you, stick to your guns about the pediatric phlebotomist. I'll keep Mary Beth in my prayers today.

amymom replied:
Wow Kelly that means alot to me, expecially coming from you. Thanks. Yeah last time she had blood drawn I allowed the RN who had done mine REALLY well do her. She was very skilled but it was still tough. Finally I told her (asked her nicely tongue.gif ) to use a butterfly, it worked much better.
Thanks Kelly for that vote of confidence.

And everyone I appreciate the good thoughts and prayers. wub.gif

jcc64 replied: I'm sorry your dd is having a tough time. It's so hard when they have those sorts of complaints- it could be anything, right, or nothing at all? Sounds like there's a little bit of history that has you concerned enough to investigate further- and I hope the answers are what you want to hear.
I'll keep you and her in my thoughts. Good luck!

MyLuvBugs replied: P&PT's for you and your little DD. hug.gif hug.gif It will be ok. She might be picking up on some of your stress too. I did that when my sister was diagnosed with Terminal Breast Cancer. I was in college, doing Marching Band, my BF had just broke up with me, and then I get this call about my sister. Needless to say, I ended up a month later at the Dr's office with an ulcer in my tummy, and Mylanta & Yoga became my best friends after that. smile.gif have you talked to her about the stresses you've been having? Sometimes just talking about it helps. smile.gif
You'll both be in my prayers. hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

amymom replied: All, I posted seperately the details but she was so brave getting the blood drawn. Thanks all the prayers worked!!!

Erika,

I agree it could be, BUT these are not new symptoms. The foot is since December but it really doesn't limit her activity. Her shoes are all ok, her hockey skates fit well, I could not find a source for the problem. The doctor is thinking slight stress fracture
**** maybe**** Won't know until the x-ray results are in.
The stomach problems have been going on for (off & on) 9 years. She is 9 yrs old. She had reflux as an infant. Still has to be careful what she eats, she has had persistent allergies etc. I could go on and on. Anyway she definitely stresses herself out and the ailments could all be caused by that OR the ailments could be having her stress more. I know that my being sick doesn't allow me to give her my all BUT I also know that my current situation isn't the 'cause' of her stress but it surely must add to it. If only I had my crystal ball all polished up. rolling_smile.gif These particular blood tests are to rule out a disease that I have a strong family history of. When I first heard of the tests I had my son and myself tested both our tests came back negative. After my dd was born we tested her at 18 mos.... her test came back 'inconclusive negative' Now experts in the field are suggesting that people not be tested until they are at least two years old. So her doctors have been 'suggesting' she be retested for about a year. So I am hoping for a clear negative now. hug.gif
The other things to consider are that this disease causes muscle aches, bone pains and a whole slew of other problems. so all her ailments could be pinpointed with this one particular diagnosis.
WOW I wrote a novel Sorry. Thanks for listening / reading.

b&bsmom replied: I am so sorry you have to go through this. I know it must be tough to put your child through more test but you will feel better when they find the cause of the problems. I can not begin to understand how frustrating this must be for you. I will add you to our prayer list and keep you and your daughter in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck!!

MM'sMama replied: You will both be in my thoughts and prayers! hug.gif hug.gif Update us when you can. hug.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied: LOTS and LOTS of prayers her (and your) way! hug.gif hug.gif
