Professional bra fitting! - so cool

mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: So today we had a professional bra fitting as one of our mom's club activities at Macy's! It was so COOL...I just had to share! About 20 of us moms (maybe more) showed up...Macy's had a video playing for the kids and snacks...and then each of us took turns getting fitted! And what a cool thing for Macy's...all of us bought at least one bra, so they made out pretty good!

We got the idea from Oprah...where she says that wearing the right bra can take inches off your frame, make you feel and look younger, etc...and it's so true! I was actually wearing a size too big around! I always hated how they rode up in the back!

Anyhow, I suggest getting it done if you have a chance...I think most places do it (for free)...and you don't have to buy anything! thumb.gif

amynicole21 replied: I really need to have this done. With pregnancies, breastfeeding and now weaning, the "girls" have changed size and shape more times than I'd care to think about right now. blush.gif

ediep replied: i plan on doing this when i lose my baby weight

sparkys2boys replied: I sooo need this!!! I waste so much money on the wrong ones all the time. And in the end I still am wearing the wrong size I bet.. Grrrr... women

lesliesmom replied: I had this done once. It was great. It was before 3 kids though so I need to get it done again. The bra I'm wearing now is so stretched out and old, it keeps falling off my shoulders so I know it's the wrong size.

boyohboyohboy replied: i have been wanting to do this for ages, but I feel funny going in and asking some stranger to measure my boobs!

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I'd get it done at a more upscale store than Walmart or Target though, just to make it clear... laugh.gif

I need to have this done again also. My bras fit wrong... I've been wearing sports bras now for wayyy too long. emlaugh.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
They don't measure you naked. I had my bra on and all she did was take a measuring tape around my boobs, but sorta under them, but a bit above my rib cage. Right away, she rambled off what she thought I should be wearing and even went out and found about five styles for me to try on. She never once SAW my boobs or touched them or anything strange like that! laugh.gif

ETA: She did come in the dressing room a lot to give me an opinion of the fit, but again, never came in while I was undressing.

coasterqueen replied: Rae,

I've been wanting to do this ever since I saw the Oprah episode too. So can I just walk right into Macy's and ask someone in the bra department? I don't want to look like an idiot if that's not the case. happy.gif I stopped wearing nursing bras about 3 or 4 months ago and I seem to have bought a bunch of bras that just don't fit right at all. rolleyes.gif

3xsthefun replied: I might try this after I have the baby and loose bunch of weight. I have bought the wrong size bunch of times. But I think I finally got it right this time.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Good question! I think so. blush.gif A friend of mine setup the event for our mom's let me check with her. But I'm thinking you can just walk in. I know all Macy's are different, but what I liked is that the sales ladies were "older" then like I felt more comfortable with them and I felt like they knew more of what they were talking about, especially for someone like me who is still nursing. They didn't carry nursing bras, but I got one called "Barely There" which has no underwire and is really soft.

I had it done at VS once and the girl was wayyyyyyyy off! wink.gif No offense if anyone works there. smile.gif

Let me get back to you...k?

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Okay, my friend said most likely "yes"...but I guess that doesn't guarantee it. Maybe just call and ask them before you go in. I imagine they would though. The sales ladies carry tape measures around, so I imagine they use them for something! laugh.gif Good luck!

amberlynnie replied: There are a few different ways to measure yourself if you dont feel comfortable letting someone else do it. I am a Certified Bra Fitter by both Maidenform and by Lane Bryant/Casique.
Maidenform measures under your breasts where your bra band will rest around your back and under your breasts. The number of inches is your band size.
You then make sure your breasts are hiked up to where you want them to rest comfortably. Measure up a few inches higher in the back, and around the fullest part of your breasts. For each inch over your band size, You count up a letter. Start with A,B,C,D,DD,DDD&E are the same..., F, FF, etc....
Now at Lane Bryant/Casique, it was a little different. They took the same first measurement, and the same second measurement, but they also took a measurement up above your breasts, just under your arms, in the highest part of your armpit. Some women have broader shoulders and this is why that 3rd measurement is taken. It should be very close to your band size, but if its not, experiment with your band size by varying between the first measurement and the third.
Hope that made sense...
It does to me, but only because I am picturing myself doing
if you have any questions feel free to ask me...I have done these for years... biggrin.gif
Oh, and yeah, dont do a fitting naked. Have your best fitting bra on. and tighten the straps up before you get fitted, or the fitter may do it for you.

A&A'smommy replied: WOW how nice!!!! thumb.gif I actually looked online to see how to do my own I was definitly wearing a bra that was too small!!! Its sounds like it was a FUN outing!! thumb.gif
