Pony kegs

ammommy wrote: Does anyone else know what these are? I'm beginning to think that they are unique to Cincinnati, OH since noone where I currently live has any clue what I am talking about.

For those who don't know, a pony keg is a drive thru liquor store that also sells convenience foods like milk, sandwiches, snacks, etc. It sounds like a strange idea, but is extremely convenient thumb.gif

A&A'smommy replied: I have never heard of that but that is really neat!!! thumb.gif

bwalkerletters replied: A pony keg in Nashville is a SMALL keg......... smile.gif like the kegs you have at parties. Boy, I remember those days. smile.gif LOL

ammommy replied: A pony keg in Nashville is a SMALL keg.........

I remember those, too! I think that's how the stores got the name because they sold a lot of those to the college crowd thumb.gif

~KARA~ replied: Most of the drive thrus around here(marion ohio) sell liquor and all that other stuff too!

Kaitlin'smom replied: I think there is still one around here in Kettering/dayton ohio

but yes I know what your talking about smile.gif

Mommy2BAK replied:
thats what a pony keg is here too

coasterqueen replied:
that's wat they are here in Illinois too.

Did you ever do keg stands? tongue.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: That's so funny they call them that! We have 3 or so "pony kegs" at our family reunion but those are smaller sized kegs that you tap. Here we call drive thru liquor stores here drive thrus. We have 3 in our little town~priorities, you know!! rolling_smile.gif

My2Beauties replied: YEah same as bwalker here too, we had a pony keg at the IL's house for Derby!

bwalkerletters replied:

LOL.............Yeah, but that's before I grew! LOL.........Bringing back memories on that one smile.gif and memories I have forgotten because of the keg stands! smile.gif LOL

mammag replied: We have them here in Columbus but I've never heard them called that before. We also just call them drive thrus...

uwishucudfly replied:
same here.....

But in the North Carolina Outerbanks they have things called a Brew-Thru. It is a drive thru beer and liquor store. So cool!

gr33n3y3z replied: they are either full or 1/2 kegs here

No drive thru

Boys r us replied: I was among the thought that they were small kegs too rolling_smile.gif Ahhh the good memories from college! LOL

Here we call those a Brew-Thru but they only sell beer, not liquor as far as alcohol goes and they have milk, bread, soft drinks..here's a pic:

ammommy replied: Yep, Nichole...that's a pony keg! I don't think actual hard liquor is sold, but the rest is (or used to be). I'm glad I'm not the only one who's heard of these things.

coasterqueen replied:
We had ONE in our town that was like that, but it lasted like 6 months and was gone. Which kinda stinks because now that I have kids I'd DIE to use one of them for little things. tongue.gif Would be heaven not to get out of the car with kids and go into the store for just a few items. rolleyes.gif I'm really suprised they aren't more popular, especially with moms/dads. Hmmm, maybe they're just marketed wrong wink.gif.

jdkjd replied:
Same here. We do have a drive-thru Beer Barn...

mammag replied:
I agree.... you would think they would be more popular but I think it's because they are targeted more for the alcohol buying crowd. You should open one and call it a mommy-thru! Sell diapers, wipes, milk, soda, otc infant meds, formula, and all the odds and ends that we all have to make midweek runs to the store for. You could make millions!!!

Here they tend to be in the lower income neighborhoods. I remember my dad going to them all the time when we were young for his daily beer run so I have bad memories and would probably never go to one.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yep! They are called Drive Thru beer barns here, too. biggrin.gif
