Crystalina wrote: I'm not sure how many of you know what happend to my neice. She contracted E-Coli 0157 and to make a long story short within a week she died (yesterday). Olivia would have been 2 next month. There is so much going on personally right now but I just wanted to let everyone know that the Ohio Department of Disease Control contacted us today and have said they think (it is not 100%) that she got this from eating a pre-made beef patty that was bought at Wal-Mart. It was not frozen patties. It was sold right next to the ground beef. The ODDC is going to have Wa-Mart recall all of this meat. They did not state (and we didn't think to ask) if it would only be the pre-made patties or if it would be all the beef. They said that more then likely it all came from the same place so maybe it will be all of it. They will be contacting us again. This call was just recieved today so I'm sure not much has been done as of right now but I just wanted everyone to know. I'm not sure if it will be only in my area or the whole state (Ohio) or the whole nation. This is the same E-Coli that killed 40 people at a Jack-In-The-Box a few years ago.

My sister was in the process of finding a funeral home for her daughter today and her MIL called and said that Lilly (her other daughter, 3yrs) was very ill, had vomited and was nonresponsive. This is what happend to Olivia in the begining. Lilly has just been tested and it came back positive for the E-Coli that has just killed her sister yesterday. She is now in the hospital. My other sister has 7 childeren and 3 have been tested positive also but they have not been admitted. I am SO not trying to freak people out but I just want you to know what is happening here. This is very very highly contagious when it is in it's incubation period which is the first seven days. In that time the person does not even know that they have it which is why it has spread so fast. By the time you are sick you are very sick.

Crystalina replied: Thank you all for the kind words hug.gif hug.gif I posted this mostly for everyone to please be aware of any Wal-Mart meat that is being recalled in your area (if it is). If this is the source of the E-Coli then I am just so worried about anyone who has already bought it. I am not trying to bash Wal-Mart in anyway (I love that place happy.gif ) they can take it off the shelf all they want but they can't make anyone pay attention to the recall. I've posted this on all the boards I go to just hoping someone will check their meat and if there is anyone in their area with the symptoms to contact the Center for Disease Control in their area. Hopefully this is an isolated incodent but the lady we talked to this afternoon wasn't too hopeful of that. sad.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: Thank you Crystal for the heads up. hug.gif

Thanks for the warning, also. I never buy groceries at WalMart but my SIL does. I'll pass the info on to her.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Oh no, how awful! I'm so sorry. sleep.gif hug.gif I think I know a couple people who buy groceries from Walmart - I don't know if it's been recalled in our area but I'll let them know. hug.gif hug.gif

I live in Cambridge (Guernsey County). It is in SE Ohio, right at the 70/77 intersection.

Crystalina replied:
The ODDC said there will be a peice in our local paper about it. That is not good enough. A very close friend of the family is contacting the news stations today.

mom21kid2dogs, yes, they live in the area. My childeren are the only ones in the family so far that do not have it and that is only because when I found out about this I did not go around anyone. That decision has made alot of family members very, very upset and I was not there when Olivia died. I feel like total sh*t because of the decision I made. I was not able to be there for my sister and the rest of the family but I am not willing to bring this to my house. I have yet to see anyone and can only talk to them on the phone. My sister, Olivia's mother, is very upset with me and called this morning and said that I was not there for her and it really broke my heart that she would say that to me. Everyone is saying that it is only contagious if you touch feces but that is not enough for me. There are too many people catching it. My sister said my mother now has it. I doubt she has touched anyones feces. There has to be more to it. I don't want to bring it to my house and find out that it can spread other ways. I'm looking at it as a hand to mouth contamination and when you are around alot of people (especailly since I have a 5 & 2 year old and it affects mostly kids 5 and under) but you cannot keep kids from not catching something like that when kids are together. I've been told to call my doctor or read about it on the internet but like I told them, I'm going to go by what I see happening with my own eyes not what some doctor or website says. There are too many people getting this. It breaks my heart that they don't understand. It blindsided them so they had no choice but I will not knowingly walk into the situation. I DO have a choice. I have to be a mother before I am a sister or aunt. I feel terrible saying that but it's true. sleep.gif What would happen if my 2 yr old caught this and was not able to fight it? sad.gif

A&A'smommy replied: hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif OH honey how horrible I know it feels terrible to not be able to be there for them but I agree you got to be a mother first!!! hug.gif I'm sorry you guys are going through this I hope you guys get it out to all the news stations!!!!

BAC'sMom replied: http://www.daily-jeff.com/article.php?path...t&article=1&tD=

Here is a Front page article I found in her local paper.

luvmykids replied: That article would explain why it is so easily passed with children, changing diapers would be a little scary.

Crystalina replied:
hug.gif Thank you for posting that. My paper is not delivered until later in the evening so I have not seen that yet. hug.gif
There is obviousely more then 3 that are contaminated so I don't know about why it said that and the ODDC said that it was more then likely the meat from WM. Maybe they cannot print that unless it is officially proven.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Oh my! What a sad story. I'm so sorry. Many prayers for you and your family. hug.gif

7thHeaven replied: I'm sorry to hear about your neice. Praying for you and your family.

bawling.gif

My2Beauties replied: OMG That is so terrible. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys bawling.gif I am so sorry that those poor babies had to contract something so awful! bawling.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: This isn't only local to Ohio - this is pretty widespread - I was talking with the ER doc about it for a few seconds today and she said there as been a massive outbreak here as well (Nashville, TN) so be careful no matter where you are.
