kit_kats_mom replied: I'll help. I'm answering for both my first and second pregnancy.

1. When did you first feel your baby kick?

18 weeks and 14 weeks

2. What was happening at the time?

sitting on the couch watching TV - working on the computer

3. After that, what things triggered your baby to kick?

any time I laid down both of them would kick. Especially when I was going to sleep...little buggers

4. Are their any “interesting” things your baby did while your pregnant? (such as kick to a certain type of music or song, “play”, ect

Lauren liked to put her foot in my ribcage on the left side and push, like she was trying to push herself out. Both of them had hiccups a lot...that was kind of funky. after about 20 weeks, K would push back at you if you put your hand on my belly.

5. When was your baby born (what week gestation if you know)

40 weeks and 41 weeks

5. How big was he/she?
7 lbs 8 oz and 7 lbs 13 oz

6. During your first pregnancy did you believe your child had a certain personality?

from the frantic kicks, yes. I presumed she would be an active baby. boy o boy was I right. She was always flailing her arms or legs.

7. If you have more than one child, did you notice a different personality for each child?

oh yeah. Lauren is waaay more mellow than K ever thought of being. K was constantly in need of holding and attention and you could not put her down ever or she would start flailing and fussing. Lauren is so mellow that I seriously would forget about her if I didn't watch myself.

texasp3 replied: Me too... I'll answer for both pregnancies as well.

1. When did you first feel your baby kick?

First: At about 5 months
Second: At about 4 months

2. What was happening at the time?

First: I was bending over wiping a table - stretched way out to reach the other side when I felt this big "FLIP FLOP" and I knew it was the baby!

Second: I was sitting at the computer checking email or surfing the 'net when there was this wonderful wiggle-burble and I knew!!

3. After that, what things triggered your baby to kick?

Same for both: If I ate anything that metabolized quickly - like a banana or fruit juice - that usually resulted in a jig. Later in pregnancy - both babies would kick if I poked them, we would play games with each other a lot.

4. Are their any “interesting” things your baby did while your pregnant? (such as kick to a certain type of music or song, “play”, ect

Both of my babies had bad hiccoughs when I was pregnant with them. They would go on for quite a while and were quite funny, once I learned not to freak out! The first time, with my first pregnancy, I thought the baby was having a siezure and nearly died from fear. Once I learned that it was harmless, it was like having a baby dancing in me. I learned to really love those hiccoughs.

Both of my babies played, although I carried #1 a month longer than #2 and in that last month my first baby and I established a real game of "poke." He was no longer kicking in response to me pushing on him... he was pushing back with his hands... we could go back and forth for 5 or 10 minutes and he would follow me all over my abdomen.

Baby #1 also ROLLED during the last month. He was footling breech (feet down) and he would just roll back and forth and my stomach would undulate in the MOST bizarre fashion!! My husband and I would sit on the couch in the evening and watch him roll... he did this about the same time every night... right about 7pm.

Baby #1 was swimming laps when I had my first sonogram at 5 months. My OB just shook his head and chased him back and forth across my stomach. He ended up just laughing, he had never seen anything quite like it.. he's the one who said "Your baby is swimming laps in there!"

Baby #2 managed to be head down, but he also got one foot right in front of his face, with this leg stretched out straight along his tummy - kind of like a ballerina warming up, you know? We saw a perinatologist with him, and she thought that was a mighty cool position... we spent a lot of time laughing about it. It certainly explained why I felt like I was being head-butted and kicked in the same place at the same time!! I had been pretty confused until we saw him in that position.

5. When was your baby born (what week gestation if you know)

Baby #1 - 41 weeks via scheduled c-section, no labor.

Baby #2 - 36 weeks via emergency c-section, after 5 weeks of bedrest for PIH, pre-term labor and then eclampsia at the very end (literally, just the last few hours... I was in the hospital being monitored when all hell broke loose).

5. How big was he/she?

They're both boys, by the way....

Baby #1 8 lbs 5 ounces and 21 inches

Baby #2 6 lbs 2 ounces and 18.5 inches

6. During your first pregnancy did you believe your child had a certain personality?

ABSOLUTELY!! He's fifteen and half years old now, and he STILL has the same personality I perceived in him before he was born.

7. If you have more than one child, did you notice a different personality for each child?

YES! No doubt.

Baby #1 was playful and mellow, though definitely unusual. That's a perfect description of him today. Nothing phases him.

Baby #2 was a stubborn little cuss before he was even born. He HATED being monitored and would literally FIGHT like a wild cat when they hooked us up to the fetal monitor. Poor kiddo, he got that a lot too. Once the nurse actually brought in two extra stretchy straps and put them in an X across my abdomen, trapping him in a "corner" so they could monitor him. Oh my!!! He threw a FIT!! He kicked and punched and bucked and was just frantic! Eventually he grew tired and would rest between fits, but he never gave up until they took those straps off and then he flopped around like crazy before taking a long nap. He is 11.5 months old and he has a temper and HATES being held down. Changing his diaper is a MAJOR accomplishment. If he doesn't get his way, he throws an all out tantrum... already. I can just imagine what he will be like at two!

8 Anything you would like to add?

I loved being pregnant. smile.gif Can you tell? LOL! I definitely bonded with my babies before they were born - they were people with their own personalities, likes and dislikes before they ever took a breath. wub.gif

loveydad replied: You guys are great!

Oh by the way this will be completly annoymous (i'm sure you knew that) and the only thing said will be like "one mother said ...." ect. No names or nothing crazy like that not even for the kiddoes.

I will post the paper when he's done.

Fetal development is so interesting. THe way he's going to do it is completly from the view of the baby. Therefore it will be nothing about how the mother is feeling, just the baby - that limits what he has to write so it's easier for him.

Kimberely isn't that interesting that your first baby was not overdue and but weighed more than your other two who were? I know the edd being wrong fits in that but that's interesting to me!!

Henry will be estatic you guys thanks. You're lifesavers when daddy screws up and doesn't put the survey out in time. LMAO.

Thanks guys! Keep it coming!

OH yeah, if you want to add anything about if you felt the baby having times of rest and then being active or being startle by loud noises that helps too.

Apparently babies rest, then they wake up for a wihle and play, then tire out, and can be either awoken or just scared by loud noises, just like a born baby! So itneresting to me!

Alice replied:
Hi Vig & Henry,

I'm pretty sure my answers are useless to you... they're so vague.

I hope someone else has the type of answers you want.

Good luck!!

kimberley replied:

honestly, Vig, i do not trust u/s dating your pg AT ALL! (sorry if TMI blush.gif ) when i got pg the first time, i knew my cycle, i knew my approx. LMP, and when i BD and those facts determined my EDD (which just happened to be my 24th b-day tongue.gif ). the next 2 pg's, my cycles had been off and i had to have a dating u/s around 12 wks with both. they claimed both babies were late and threatened induction. James luckily came out before that but Jade's induction experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth. and i had m/s with my last 2 pg's and ate like a fiend when i was pg for Jacob... drinking about 2L of milk/day. i also had a lot more time to just sit in a chair and talk to my belly when i was pg with Jacob. a luxury i did not have with the other two. i guess all these things play a part. smile.gif

amymom replied: Ok I am answering on my two kids:

1. When did you first feel your baby kick?
Billy-- 20 weeks
Mary -- 18 weeks

2. What was happening at the time?
Working, walking around, for both

3. After that, what things triggered your baby to kick?
Billy--- He enjoyed a friend of mines voice and would move when she spoke.
Mary -- ALL THE Time..... never rested!

4. Are their any “interesting” things your baby did while your pregnant? (such as kick to a certain type of music or song, “play”, ect
Billy -- other than my friends voice I did not note what made him move
Mary -- she was just very active AND had hiccups AND was generally making sure I paid attention to her

5. When was your baby born (what week gestation if you know)
Billy -- 39 weeks
Mary -- 42 weeks

5. How big was he/she?
Billy 8 lbs 20 inches
Mary 8 lbs 21 inches

6. During your first pregnancy did you believe your child had a certain personality?

Not during pregnancy but in retrospect I can see how he fits in the calm, mellow mild mannered type of guy. Slept through the night (7 hours) at 3 weeks and was really an easy child to raise. He is 14 now.

7. If you have more than one child, did you notice a different personality for each child?

I thought she would be very active and boy is she. She walked at 9 mos, didn't sleep for two years (well, that was me who didn't sleep) but she really didn't sleep for more than 2 hours at a stretch for two years, it was on her 2nd birthday that she slept 6 hours (i checked her breathing after 3 hours, when I awoke in a panic.) She is our 'jock', High scorer on her hockey team, plays basketball, her goals (and she's 8) are to be a pro hockey player and a vetrinarian. She reads about 5 books (5th-8th grade level) a week, only likes to watch Animal planet on TV and I cannot keep up with her rolleyes.gif

8 Anything you would like to add?
I imagine that my son was kind of just quiet and hung out in-utero (sp?), just biding his time, kind of like he lives in life. While in-utero, my daughter was very active, even to the point of being annoying, We had many, many sonograms with her and not once did she let the operator see if she was a boy or girl, (I am sure they could have forced it but we couldn't decide if we wanted to know anyway). The tech kept saying that she kept her legs crossed. The last week I had a sonogram everyday to check fluid levels and she never uncrossed her legs.

I don't know if this pretains to Henry's project but: I just remembered, With my son I constantly had a dream that he was out and wearing a diaper, in the dream I kept asking him... "Are you a boy or a girl?" he would pull his diaper out, look and then look at me and laugh and say "I now you want to know mom, but you will just have to wait!!!" And you know this is his personality now, he consistently kids me about stuff!!!
