OMG Someone wake me up & tell me this is - only a nightmare...

Boys r us wrote: I left work today about 10:30 just because I needed some time off and wanted to go do some shopping and errands. Well, now..as I'm out spending money and Rick is as we speak, driving home in an expensive new vehicle that was a completely unnecessary purchase, as we both already have cars..he calls me and tells me that the president of his company just called him and they laid off 55 people in his office and HE was one of them!

We sort of saw this coming b/c a lot of the the other department VP's had been let go over the last 6 months as the company wasn't doing overly well, but his boss always assured him that his role as VP of technology was beyond secure..they HAD to have him. My head is ready to explode right now!!!! It's just pounding!! I can't freaking believe this is happening!
Rick was all laughing and not worried about it at all, but I can't help but to be worried! I make good money at my job, but I can't support all four of us...we have enough in savings to carry us for a few months with no worries..but that isn't enough security for me to feel safe!
I just want to throw up!! puke.gif
I know in his field this happens all of the time, but it's hard to find a good job like he had around here in the IT field that pays well.

A&A'smommy replied: OMG I would be freaking out too!!! I hope that he gets a new job soon!!! ((((BIG HUGS))) and LOTS of calming vibes your way!!!

favre4fan replied: ohmy.gif Oh no so sorry to hear that! Was he laughing because he may be able to get another job? I hope he finds something fast so you do not have to be worried!!

mckayleesmom replied: That sucks!..Im so sorry. Maybe you could eliminate some stress right away by turning off stuff that cost alot of money....cable..etc...until he finds something else..that way you can make your money go farther. Im sure everything will work out alright.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Oh boy have I been there! All except I was pregnant and couldn't get a job, we had no insurance, etc. It could be worse. Hang in there sweetie. You are strong and you WILL get through this just fine!! He will find a job in no time. thumb.gif

Did he know it was coming? DH's job has been laying people off left and right all year and so he's just wondering day by day whether that day will be his day. rolleyes.gif Luckily he got an 'ok' raise and they just gave him his profit sharing for the year today so at least I know they are keeping him on a bit longer. It's so nerve-wrecking.

((HUGS)) I hope he finds a new job fast for all your sake. grouphug.gif

loveydad replied: Wow this board just isn't having a good day. I'm so sorry Nicole!

TANNER'S MOM replied: Last November my Dh got laid off. It was so hard. It was the hardest thing our marriage has ever been thru. Of course we had the farm..but to be honest not alot of money to be made from it so we both work full time. My check and his unemployement didn't equal what he brought home in one week.

But one thing I will say is this, it makes you stronger. Randy and got real close durning that time. We knew we had to hold each other up or lose it all. And we did. He did everything he could to make extra money, worked on other peoples farms cowboying..anything and everything. I was paid of him and he was proud of me for working hard for our family.

Do what you need to make sure you make it. And we did have to down size somethings. We got rid of horses we didn't need. Butchered cattle to eat that we would have sold for money, but needed actually food. We didn't have a satelittle, or anything like that.

But your husband sounds very educated I don't think he will have any trouble.
In the words of Tammy Wynette good lucck and STAND BY YOUR MAN<<<lol
I said that to be funny

Love you and I am so sorry. I still remember my breath getting knocked out of me and knees getting weak, and I had the same emotions as some died..So I understand.

5littleladies replied: Oh no! That sucks! I hope he finds something new soon. Try not to be too worried-something will turn up. grouphug.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: That stinks I'm sorry to hear that

MomToMany replied: I am so sorry your DH got laid off. At least you have some money for a few months; most people don't have that. I hope he can find another job soon or you find a way to manage.

We are here for you Nichole!

moped replied: That really does bite!!!!!!!!!

I will keep me fingers crossed that he hops right into a new position - sooo sorry to hear that!

amynicole21 replied: Oh no!!! That is terrible news. Did he get any kind of severance? Ugh!!! Nice that they waited after Christmas, I guess dry.gif I am sure that he'll find something quickly, but in the meantime, here are some great big hugs for you!! grouphug.gif

ediep replied: oh how terrible! I am so sorry you have to deal witht his.

Good Luck!!!

kimberley replied: yikes! p&pt he finds something soon! grouphug.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Wow that really sucks!! I hope something comes up for him soon. grouphug.gif

Mommy2Be replied: OMG I am so sorry I would be freaking out and very worried too. I hope he finds a new job soon but I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts BIG HUGS grouphug.gif.

Boys r us replied: Thanks for all of your well wishes! I finally just LOST it this morning! I was getting ready for work and I was about to break down in tears, but I couldn't do it in front of him..I just couldn't. The second I walked out the door and got into my car, the tears just rolled!

As for severance and all of that, I have no idea..his boss told him all of this over the phone, then asked him to come in today to talk about all of the details. Kind of weird though, he got an email from the main VP last night..asking RICK to disable all of these other people's accounts...ughh Hi, you laid him off and now you're asking him to WORK??

mammag replied: Oh that's lovely! mad.gif I've always found it annoying that companies expect all this loyalty from their employees and give none in return. I understand layoffs from a business standpoint but if it is going to be done, certainly don't expect people to continue to do stuff for you after the fact.

I'm sure it will all work out for you. I can't imagine what we would do if that happened to my husband since I don't work. We would be royally screwed! huh.gif I guess it's good you posted this because it is making me think and rededicate myself to getting out of debt and saving money for emergencies like that.

Keep your chin up!

gr33n3y3z replied: Just maybe they will keep him since he is the VP
But if not why would they want him to come into work and do some work.
See what today brings for him.
HUgz

Boys r us replied: No, he was only the VP of the IT area..and the IT area is now being handled out of another office.

Here's an email he just sent me from there this morning, basically..we may have SOME income for 30 days..hopefully by then he will have found a new job:

Subject: RE: Morning...

Last day for most everyone. 20 people will stay on but
they will be gone is 30-45 days.
Everyone packing up and leaving here at 5 today.
He asked me write up something for him for 85 per hour for IT support in
an as needed basis. But he guessed this office was completely gone in
30-45 days.

gr33n3y3z replied: Well he is smart and he will know what to do
Just trust him he will do fine

TANNER'S MOM replied: I am glad that you are getting some information. That will help alot. It will be ok

grouphug.gif

coasterqueen replied: Well I guess it's good they will be keeping him on a bit longer. My SIL and BIL go through this all the time in that same line of business but they always seem to find a job really fast. They even moved to another state in August without jobs and found a job in that line of work within 3 days! I should have gone down that path instead of this one. tongue.gif It's kinda a crappy field because IT departments are always being consolidated when businesses merge, etc, but it seems to be a field where people can find jobs all over the place in it.

aspenblue1 replied: I am so sorry. Hopefully he will find something else soon.

MommyToAshley replied: oh that just sucks...I am sorry. At least he has 30 days with income, and you have some savings. That should give him the time to find the perfect job. Maybe he will find one that he likes better. I have my fingers crossed for you.
